ALVARADO-GINORIO, Aurea, 79, of Colonial Heights, Va., died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Southside Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Alfonso and Alejandrina Cornier Renta. She was a member of the Fort Lee Memorial Chapel for over 32 years. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who loved gardening flowers, and taking long walks and enjoyed family get-togethers. She is survived by three daughters, Iris Alvarado Chapman of Colonial Heights, Aurea Elena Alvarado of Petersburg and Louise Alvarado Pines and husband, Robert III, of Midlothian; two granddaughters, Aurea Amorita Finney and Kristen Lissette Chapman, both of Colonial Heights; four grandsons, Conner Wayne Chapman, Jose Rafael Concepcion III, both of Colonial Heights, Justin Luis Pines and Quenton Robert Pines, both of Midlothian. She is also survived by Tia Felton, with whom she shared a special relationship as if she were a daughter; three sisters, Ada Renta Vasques of Orlando, Fla., Georgina Renta of Ponce, Puerto Rico and Alejandrina Renta Pacheco and husband, Gelo, of Baymon, Puerto Rico; two brothers, Alfonso Renta and wife, Ester, and Juan Ramon Renta and wife, Luz, all of Ponce, Puerto Rico. Funeral services will be conducted 9:30 a.m. Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Fort Lee Main Chapel, Fort Lee, Va. Anders, Jay J.

Mr. Jay J. Anders, 86, of Lake City, Fla., passed away November 23, 2008, following an extended illness. Mr. Anders was born in Gary, W.Va., to Cleve and Ethel Anders. He was a Naval Veteran serving from 1942 to 1947. Mr. Anders worked for A-1 sandwiches for over 20 years. After retiring he worked at the Price Quick Stop in Lake City becoming friends with many of the patrons. Many friends remember him through the Columbia County Flea Market where he also enjoyed working for over 20 years. Mr. Anders is survived by a sister, Nell A. Boyer, of Galax, Va.; a brother, Rossie Anders, of Roanoke, Va.; and two special friends, Nell Feagle and Randall Saunders, both of Lake City. Several nieces and nephews and other family members also survive. A celebration of life in his memory will be held at the American Legion in Lake City, Fla., on Saturday, December 13, 2008, from 4 to 6 p.m. Per his request, Mr. Anders will be buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Grayson County, Va. BANKS, Mrs. Dorothy Cozart, mother of Medaris Roscoe Banks and devoted wife of Roscoe William Banks (deceased), died peacefully surrounded by loving family and friends on December 1, 2008. She was born on October 9, 1928 in Charles City, Va. to the late Noah Cozart and Lula Cozart Mickins. Dorothy was raised in Richmond, Va. and attended Van De Vyver Catholic School before graduation from Armstrong High School. A love mother, grandmother and friend to all who were fortunate enough to meet her, she leaves to cherish her memory her only child and dedicated son, Medaris; her daughter-in-law, Bobette; and two granddaughters, Nia and India, of Silver Spring, Md.; one brother, Noah Cozart; and sister-in-law, Rosalie; and one sister, Ruby Cozart Horton; and brother-in-law, Harold, all of Richmond; and a host of nieces, nephews, and devoted friends. Services will be held on Thursday, December 11 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 909 Rennie Avenue. Buyalos Sr., James Francis

BUYALOS, James Francis Sr., 77, of Dinwiddie County, loving husband, devoted father and adored grandfather and great-grandfather, died Monday, December 8, 2008, after a prolonged illness. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Marion Buyalos of Hopewell; and a brother, Wayne Buyalos. Jim worked for Safeway Grocery Store as a manager for 28 years; owned and managed Chester Supermarket, in Chester, for nine years; and retired from Heritage Chevrolet after 20 years as a Salesperson and Truck Manager. Jim loved fishing in the surf and off the Avalon Pier in Nags Head, N.C. He instilled a strong work ethic and the importance of education in the family that he valued above all else. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Sandra S. Buyalos. Together they demonstrated to family and friends the essence of a loving and caring marriage. He is also survived by seven children, two especially devoted, a daughter, Ellen B. Daulton and husband, Bodie, of Sutherland and a son, Matthew D. Buyalos of Dinwiddie. Also, James F. (Skip) Buyalos Jr. and wife, Pam, of Chester, Timothy W. Buyalos and wife, Susan, of Carson, Bruce P. Buyalos and wife, Mary, of Dewitt, Brenda B. Thibault and husband, Neal, of Stephens City and Maryanne B. Skalak and husband, Steve, of Midlothian. Jim's living legacy are his 14 grandchildren, Shannon Buyalos, Kristen Buyalos, Kerri Buyalos, T.J. Buyalos, James Michael Buyalos, Philip Buyalos, Clint Buyalos, Chelsea Buyalos, Candice Buyalos, Sydni Daulton, Ryan Thibault, Megan Thibault, Kristina Skalak and Grant Skalak; two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Zackary Buyalos; two brothers, Edward Buyalos (Anne) and Michael Buyalos (Carolyn); three sisters, Catherine Oliver (Richard), Marian Walker (Aaron), Margaret Bates (Ron); a sister-in-law, Barbara Buyalos; numerous nieces and nephews; and Jim's beloved pets, Millie and Patches. Kenneth W. Clem CHESAPEAKE - Kenneth W. Clem passed away in his home Dec. 8, 2008, after suffering from a long illness. He was born Oct. 4, 1930, to the late Willard and Margaret Clem of Portage, Ind. Kenneth retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after having served 28 years including two tours in Vietnam. He was predeceased by his parents, Willard and Margaret, as well as his brother, Jack Clem. He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Janice; along with their two daughters, Sandra Jones and Suzanne Mills; his two brothers, Richard and David Clem; and Jonathan Mills, to whom he was both grandfather and a mentor. Per his wishes, no funeral will be held, but rather his family and friends will celebrate his life at a later date. Kenneth was a compassionate and loving man enriching the lives of everyone he touched, always putting his family first. Flora Mae Crook VIRGINIA BEACH - Flora Mae Harper Crook, 87, went to be in God's loving care Dec. 8, 2008. She was born Aug. 9, 1921, in Montgomery, Ala., to the late Earl and May Harper. Flora was a true child of God; she had a smile that could light up the world. Her life was centered around her church and her family, but her greatest joy was being with her grand and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gordon E. Harper. Flora will be deeply missed by her adoring family and loving friends. GEE, Lewis Marvin, 85, of Richmond, passed away peacefully December 7, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Gee; and is survived by three loving children, his daughters, Karen Gee Clarke of Richmond, Julie Gee Franklin and her husband, Lynwood, of Richmond; and his son, Robert L. Gee and his wife, Michelle, of Burke, Va.; six grandchildren, Spencer and his wife, Korby, Beth and her husband, John, Sarah and her husband, Jon, Lucy, Shelby, and Dustin; and his three great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Ben, and Sam. Mr. Gee grew up in South Hill, Va., until he moved to the Richmond area and graduated from Varina High School. He was a WWII veteran of the 8th Air Force, and a master upholsterer at Biggs Antique Company. He will be remembered lovingly by all who knew him, including his extended family, friends, close neighbors, and his church family at Jahnke Road Baptist Church. GUZA, Elinor Lillian "Aunty," 95, passed with great joy into Heaven on December 9, 2008. She was born January 23, 1913 to Ira Allen and Annie May Guza, who preceded her in death. She served her country in the U.S. Navy as a WAVE during WWII. She was a past member of Webber Memorial Baptist Church and a current member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She received training as a physical therapist at the Medical College of Virginia and worked at the Virginia Department of Health, retiring in March of 1975. Aunty was a fiercely independent woman who possessed many talents such as photography, gardening, woodworking and poetry, which she shared with her family and friends. She is survived by her sister, Ola "Bunny" Carter; nephew, Richard Allen Carter; and nieces, Dianne Carter Groff and Darlene Carter Woods; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Her family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Pine Grove Cemetery in Amelia. The family would like to thank the staff at the Laurels of Willow Creek and Hospice of Virginia for the loving care they provided during her final years. KEETER, Harold T., 78, of Midlothian, formerly of Greenville, N.C., went to be with the Lord on December 9, 2008. He was a tobacco farmer until 1955 when he married and moved to Richmond. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Alice Keeter; daughter, Gail Mullins and her husband, Mike; son, David J. Keeter; grandchildren, Gregory and Zachary Mullins, and Kyle and Zoe; brother, David L. Keeter and wife, Jo; sisters, Jo Paramore of Richmond, Ann Coward and Jean Keeter of Greenville, N.C. Mr. Keeter retired from Overnite Transportation in 1992 and later worked at Ukrop's. He enjoyed spending his time at Lake Gaston with family and friends. KEYSER, William "Bill" Ross Jr., of Deltaville, and formerly of Charlottesville, died Saturday, December 6, 2008. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Rose Virginia Keyser. He is survived by his daughter, Julie, and her husband, John Peters; son, Pete Keyser and his wife, Sandy; and son, Rusty Keyser. Also surviving him are six grandchildren, Mark Peters, Matthew Peters, Megan Keyser Rumney and her husband, Marshall, Carrie Keyser Carter and her husband, Will, Dirk Keyser and Ben Keyser; his sister, Emily Keyser; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in WWII, as a navigator on a B-17. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Engineering. As an engineer with Sperry Corporation, he worked on the Apollo 13 Moon Mission. He was the co-founder of Associated Steel Products of Charlottesville. Bill was a longtime Kiwanian and past elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church. KRANITZKY, George J. Sr., 85, of Richmond, was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He went to be with the Lord on December 7, 2008 after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean; his parents, Alexander and Cecelia Kranitzky; his brothers, Joe, Charlie and Eck; his sisters, Marie, Katherine, Eleanor, Cecelia and Agnes; and his precious "baby girl," Bonnie Lynn. He is survived by his children, George, Debbie, Diane, Robin and Jeanie; his grandchildren, Nelia, Jason, Daniel, Alicia, Erin, Adam, Ian and Jack; his devoted sister, Marguerite Kranitzky Webb; and many other relatives and friends. Besides loving and caring for those closest to him, George was an avid tennis player and a lover of all sports. He enjoyed working in his shop and created many works of wonder. His generosity and kindness were well-known to all who knew him. Evie P. Mardoc VIRGINIA BEACH - Evie P. Mardoc was born Sept. 19, 1934, in the Bronx, N.Y., daughter of the late Peter and Reba Pappas. She embarked on her life's last adventure Dec. 8, 2008, after a courageous battle against cancer. She was preceded in death by her brother, George Parker and sister, Helen Catanzaro. She is survived by her husband, Vincent R. Mardoc; daughter, Lynne Alison Mardoc; and two sons, Peter and Philip; sister, Lucy Yevlove; brother-in-law, Arthur Yevlove; four grandchildren, Esther, Gabriel, Nathaniel and Zachary Mardoc; and beloved family friend, Roberta Hampton. She grew up in the Bronx, but spent her married life of 55 years in Connecticut, Florida and Virginia Beach. She dearly loved her family and took every opportunity to help those in need. She would also help and visit dear elderly friends. She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She loved the Canadian Rockies and a three-week camping trip to Alaska. In her early years, she was a real estate agent and in Virginia Beach rented space to sell antiques. There will be a celebration of her life Saturday, Dec. 13, at 3600 Sea Pines Road, Apt. NOLAN, James M., 51, passed away at his home in Richmond, Va., on December 7, 2008, after a lengthy illness. Born in Bethlehem, Pa., Mr. Nolan was the son of the late James J. and Margaret MacNeill Nolan. He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Phillips Nolan; his daughter, Bridget; and his sisters, Meme Nolan Wiber and Margie Nolan Lloyd and their families. Mr. Nolan was a 1975 graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School. He received his B.A. from Georgetown University, magna cum laude, in 1979, a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Pi Sigma Alpha. He received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law School in 1982, and was a member of the Editorial Board of the American Criminal Law Review. He began his career at the law firm of Milbank Tweed in New York, and joined the firm of Mays & Valentine, now Troutman Sanders LLP, in Richmond in 1989. He became a partner of the firm in 1990. Mr. Nolan was a member of the bars of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the State of New York. He was admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the Bankruptcy and District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Virginia, and the Bankruptcy and District Courts for the Eastern District of Virginia, as well as various other volunteer bar associations in both New York and Virginia. PULLY, William R., 86, of Richmond, died on Friday, December 5, 2008. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane Beck; sister, Joyce; brother, Robert; parents, Frank and Louise. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Elizabeth Pully and her husband, Barry Weiss, Frances Pully, Randolph and Cathy Pully, Thomas and Jodie Pully; grandchildren, Amy and Laura Weiss, Jack Pully, James and Maria Pully; great-grandsons, James Pully Jr. and Kevin. Mr. Pully was a WWII U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and a graduate of both the University of Richmond and University of Virginia. He was a Fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers. A longtime member of the former Bainbridge Street Baptist Church, he later joined Bethany Christian Church. Mr. Pully, a tree farmer and avid outdoorsman, requested that in lieu of flowers, trees be planted in his memory. Dewey Lawson (Red) St.Clair, 81, of Tampa, Fla., died on Sunday, December 7, 2008. Born in Roanoke, Va., he moved to Tampa in 1966. Red graduated from Viaud School, then worked his way from the mailroom of Pure Oil Company to an executive office for Unocal, where he worked for 36 years, winning many accolades along the way. He was active in the Florida Petroleum Marketers' Association and Tampa Chamber of Commerce, and served as President of the Lions Club in Florence, S.C. He was one of the youngest deacons at Waverly Place Baptist Church and went on to be a faithful member of Lake Carroll Baptist Church in Tampa, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, department leader, deacon, and usher. He was an active member of the Tampa Baptist Association and was on the board of directors of the Tampa Bay Baptist Foundation. An avid sports fan, he was a Bucs season ticket holder from day one and hardly missed a game. He was a member of the 100 mph Club at Daytona Raceway, even bringing home the pace car in 1973. He enjoyed golf, tennis, bowling, baseball games, ice cream, and spoiling the grandkids. After retiring, he delivered Meals on Wheels and visited nursing homes. WALD, Debrah, died in her home, with the company of her two daughters, on Friday, December 5, 2008. After a long fight with terminal cancer, doctors released her to hospice in August, and estimated she wouldn't make it to the end of September. Nurses said Debrah fought to the very end, which was very much like her. Debrah worked at Prometric Testing Center as a TCA, a job she loved very much. Debrah always liked being the laughter of the party and loved to travel. Her close friends knew her to be a very generous woman who loved to give back to the community. Debrah Wald is survived by her husband, James Wald; her two daughters, Corrine Wald and Erin Wald; parents, Alice Myers and stepfather, Bill Myers; and many family and friends who loved her. White, Florence

Florence R. White VIRGINIA BEACH - Mrs. Florence Richter White died peacefully Dec. 5, 2008, in her home surrounded by family. She was born June 26, 1941, in Norfolk, the third child of Lorenzo B. and Florence R. Woodhouse. Her twin brothers, Lorenzo Woodhouse and Dr. Bernard L. Woodhouse, preceded her in death. Flo-Flo and Little Florence, as she was affectionately known by family and close friends, was educated in the Norfolk public school system and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1958. She earned her bachelor's degree in education at Hampton Institute (now Hampton University) in 1962. Florence taught 7th and 8th grade math for more than 25 years in the Norfolk Public School system, spending most of those years at Ruffner Middle School. Florence White was a lifetime member of St. John's AME Church. She was a member of the Douglas-Studivant-Woodhouse Sunday school class, served on the Stewardess Board No. 1, member of the Angelic Gospel and Mass Choirs, members of the Daughters of Lydia, secretary of the Lay Organization, NEST program volunteer, Flossie McIntyre Scholarship Committee, and the Transportation Ministry. Florence White was a member of the Woman's Club of Norfolk and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She leaves to mourn her death her daughter, Lydia E. Ballard; two sons, Arthur C. White Jr. and Lorenzo A. White Sr.; a son-in-law, Allen D. Ballard; a daughter-in-law, Shamica Fisher-White; a sister-in-law, Marsha Woodhouse, a cousin who was like a sister, Arline Spencer; six grandchildren, Lorenzo A. White Jr., Jaeden D. White, Israel C. White, Tyler J. Wigglesworth, Andrew R. Wigglesworth and Alana L. Ballard. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in St. John AME Church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. Hale Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Wiley, Dorothy

Dorothy J. Wiley FRANKLIN - Dorothy Josephine Wiley, a former resident of Vienna and Culpeper, died Dec. 8, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Rainey and Josephine Lee Keys Poole and the widow of Harlan Granville Wiley. Mrs. Wiley was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. She was the founder of the Christian Woman's Club of Culpeper and was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Judith D. Horton and husband the Rev. Henry Horton of Waco, Texas; a son, the Rev. Ronald L. Wiley and wife Elaine of Franklin; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, Joseph and Harlan Granville Wiley II. A graveside funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Herndon, Va., with Army Chaplain Major Will Horton officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Roger Crump. Tammy Annette Eubank Williams passed away at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston, W.Va., on Sunday morning, December 7, 2008. She was born on November 25, 1969. Tammy is survived by her husband Richard A. Williams; son, Anthony G. Eubank and his girlfriend, Sarah Morrison; five brothers, Denny, Steve, Gary, Jeffery, and Ronnie, all of Huddleston, W.Va.; two sisters-in-laws, Jennifer Williams and Tammy Williams; brother-in-law, Bobby Williams; mother-in-law, Linda K. Chadwell; and two nephews, Chris Williams and Travis Williams. Services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2008, at Fidler and Frame Funeral Home, Belle, W.Va., with the Rev. Paul Rice officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes, W.Va. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at the funeral home. Wilson, Lily Norwood

WILSON, Miss Lily Norwood, died December 5, 2008 at The Hermitage in Richmond. She was the only daughter of Henry Harrison Wilson and his wife, Lily Tyler Wilson. She was particularly proud of her maternal grandfather, James Hoge Tyler, Governor of Virginia. Born in Richmond on February 6, 1919, she was raised in Harrisburg, Pa., Radford, Va. and Richmond. She attended the Seiler School in Harrisburg and graduated from St. Catherine's School in Richmond. Her older brother, James Hoge Tyler Wilson of Warrenton, Va. died in 1994. She is survived by her younger brother, Henry H. Wilson Jr., M.D. and his wife, Therese de Labrusse Wilson. She is also survived by several nephews and nieces, James Tyler Wilson of Crozier, Va., Eileen Allen Wilson of Warrenton, Va., Allen Morgan Wilson of Rixeyville, Va., Anne de Labrusse Wilson Fafara of Alexandria, Va., Caroline Wilson McLean of Charlottesville, Va., Harrison Maireaux Wilson of Locust Valley, N.Y. and Henry Tyler Wilson of New York City. She is also survived by 12 great-nephews and great-nieces, and their parents, Dr. Richard John Fafara, Stephen Thomas McLean, Catherine Bostwick Wilson and Alison Griscom Wilson. Lily was an extremely devout Christian, spending a major portion of her existence in volunteer church work. Near the middle of her life, she found time to complete her collegiate studies earning her baccalaureate degree from Radford College (University). She admitted having read the Holy Bible four times from cover to cover. Not infrequently, she followed the biblical practice of fasting. A considerable portion of her life was spent in and near the Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, where she hoped to influence young theological students. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2008 at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1627 Monument Ave., Richmond. A private graveside service will be held in Hollywood Cemetery. Anyone who desires to make a memorial gift is requested to consider Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church or a charity.
