Albert T. Minnick

Albert T. Minnick, 71, of Blue Ridge, Va., passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2010, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital as a result of a farming accident. He was the son of the late Wyatt and Pearl Minnick. He served in the, and retired from Southern States. He was a member of Laurel Grove Presbyterian Church. He is predeceased by two brothers and one sister. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Carolyn; two daughters, Tonya (Richard) Dooley, and Monica Hawks; a special son, Sarge Kearns; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; the light of his life, his greatgrandson; one brother; two sisters; and his mother-in-law. A Graveside Service will be held 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Harold Lewis officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's East Chapel, Bonsack, 540-977-3909.

HAZELWOOD, Allen D., age 57, of Henrico, passed away Friday, July 30,2010. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse G. Hazelwood Jr.; and two brothers. He is survived by his mother, Virginia H. Hazelwood; sisters, Deborah MacLelland and Joy Wilson; brothers, Jesse Hazelwood III and Ricky Hazelwood. Arnold A. Liebman

He was born on March 5, 1931, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the son of Josef Liebman and Alice Kalov Liebman., In 1968, he joined Hoffmann-La Roche Inc., Nutley, New Jersey, as a Senior Chemist and rose to the position of Research Leader of the Isotope Laboratories in the Research Division. Dr. Liebman resided in Verona, New Jersey, for 16 years before moving to Kiawah Island, South Carolina, after his retirement in 1993. In 2005, he moved to Charlottesville, Virginia., He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Shirley Goodman Liebman; and his sister, Beverly Liebman Weinberg., He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Beverly A. Pawson, of Charlottesville, and his children, Evelyn Liebman and her husband, Rene Demuynck, Richard S. Liebman, Jeanne Liebman Albanese and her husband, Brian, Alexander S. Liebman, and his granddaughter, Sophia Demuynck and grandson Valere Demuynck, all of New Jersey. He is also survived by two nieces and a nephew., The family wishes to thank the Coronary Care Unit medical team for its excellent care and compassion during his hospitalization., In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Clarence Hancock

HANCOCK, Clarence Thomas, 62, departed this life on Thursday, August 5, 2010. A native of Scotland Neck, N.C., he had lived in Richmond since his graduation from East Carolina University, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. While in the U.S. Army, he served two tours of duty, one in Vietnam and one in Ethiopia. Tom was an avid golfer and a member of the Sycamore Creek Men's Golf Association. He worked for Wood Equipment Company in sales for eight years prior to opening Springhill Golf Company in Carytown, a dream of his that was short-lived because of the onset of his illness. Tom is survived by his wife of 23 years, Elizabeth Hummel Hancock; a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth; and a son, Alexander. He is also survived by his sister, Betsy Hancock Bullard; and a brother, Raymond Hancock; as well as a loving extended family of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence L. and Elaine B. Hancock; and his sister, Laney Hancock Howell. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 14, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue, with a memorial service to be held at 11:30 in the Chapel. Corinne Carr Nettleton, 81, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, August 7, 2010., She was born on September 9, 1928, in North Carolina, the daughter of the late William Kimbrough and Isabel Woodworth Carr. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers., Corinne was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 15 years. She was a graduate of the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma and received her Master's Degree from Boston University in Massachusetts. Her life's work was in the Clinical Social Work field and she was instrumental in updating the Virginia legislation concerning child abuse laws and their enforcement. She helped many children to achieve a better life, complete with love and caring. She will be missed by all who knew her., She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Reverend Norman D. Nettleton; a niece, Patricia Carr of Richardson, Texas; two nephews, Kim Carr and Sam Carr of Houston, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Carr of Houston, Texas., A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday August 11, 2010, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Jim Baker officiating., The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Donald Leslie (Don) Griffin, 72, of Moneta, Va., died on Sunday, August 8, 2010. Don proudly served in the, for 22 years. He was a member of the, and also attended Lamplight Baptist Church. After his retirement from the U.S. Navy, Don and his wife, Marvina, made a home in Virginia. In 1982, he started Don Griffin Well Drilling Company, Inc. He was an avid antique car enthusiast and attended many antique car shows. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Marvina Griffin, in 2008. Surviving are two daughters, Valerie Archual and husband, James, and Crystal Cole; former son-in-law and work companion, Tim Burton; four grandchildren, Clinton Griffin and wife, Lindsie, Michael Burton and wife, Katherin, Ivy Archual, and Aaron Archual; two great-grandchildren, Kaleb Griffin and Kadyn Burton; a special pet companion, Pooky; and many other relatives and friends. Dorothy "Dot" Ray HONAKER, Va. Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Ray, age 76, passed away Satur day, Aug. 7, 2010, in a Lebanon, Va., hospital. Born April 14, 1934, in Russell County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Howard Albert and Ruby Alberta Dye Ray. A lifelong resident of the area she was formerly employed as a seamstress at Lebanon Apparel and Honaker Mills. She attended Honaker Church of God. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda Gay Stump and Helen Fern Connard; one grandson, Gary Shawn Ray; and one great-granddaughter, Sara Beth Street. Survivors include three children, Darrell Ray of Lebanon, and Rita Stump and Gary Ray, both of Bristol Virginia; three guardian grandchildren, Ed Stump of Johnson City, Tenn., Crystal Chaffin of Cleveland, Va., and Jennifer Hale of Honaker; grandchildren, Michelle Ray of Tullahoma, Tenn., Angela Street and Jessica Ray, both of Lebanon, Timothy Ray of Honaker; and special grandson, Joshua Ray of Bristol Tennessee; five great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Ray and Steward Dye, both of Northeast, Md.; four sisters, Mabel Blatchford of Las Vegas, Gladys Tiller of Wilmington, Del., Frances Yates of Honaker, and Betty Pickthorn of Miamisburg, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Evelyn Fay Creasy Cassell, Evelyn Fay Creasy Cassell, 83, of Charlottesville, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 8, 2010, after a courageous battle with lung cancer., Born in Woodridge, Virginia, on June 24, 1927, to the late Robert "Evans" Creasy Sr. and Mamie Jane Wise Creasy, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John Hascue Cassell Jr.; infant sister, Mabel Pansy Creasy; and brother, Robert E. Creasy Jr., Evelyn's greatest joy was her family, and she leaves behind a son, Larry Cassell and his wife, Sue, of Charlottesville; a daughter, Debby Waufle and her husband, Dennis, of Columbia, South Carolina; granddaughters, Julie Cassell-Bryant and her husband, Matthew, and Jenny Cassell-Faulknier and her husband, Brian; great-grandchildren, Timothy and Cheyenne Faulknier and Brie and Madeline Bryant, all of Palmyra, Virginia., Evelyn had a heart of encouragement and giving, and throughout her life and career people far and wide received a listening ear and caring wisdom, a card, or if they were really fortunate, a homemade cake! She returned to work in 1961, after her youngest child began attending school, and worked 25 and a half years, first at Blue Ridge Sanatorium, then on Barringer Ground at the University of Virginia Hospital. Evelyn's retirement gave her the opportunity to enjoy her grandchildren, great- grandchildren, tend to her plants and flowers, to bake cakes, take trips to town and bluegrass festivals with friends and family, and bird-watching., A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at Slate Hill Baptist Church with the Pastor Rhon Williams officiating. Frances Roberts Davis

Frances Roberts Davis, Frances Roberts Davis, 74, of Ruckersville, passed peacefully on Sunday, August 8, 2010, at the Dogwood Village in Orange, Virginia, after a brief battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family members and loved ones at the time of her passing., Frances was born on September 10, 1935, in Charlottesville, the daughter of the late James D. Roberts and Mabel King Roberts. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, James W. Roberts and Dallas K. Roberts., Frances grew up in Charlottesville, where she graduated from Lane High School in 1954. On April 7, 1955, Frances married Earl F. Davis of Madison County. Together they had four sons whom they raised in Charlottesville. Frances was the kind of person who made everyone in her presence feel special, especially young children. Frances had a passion toward helping others. She supported various community charitable organizations through her tireless fundraising efforts., That special caring was also seen in the roles she played in the Park Street Christian Church. Frances was a deaconess for many years. She volunteered to work with the youth of the church and participated in many of the church's other programs. Frances was one of the first members of the church., Frances had a true affection for teaching and working with children. She was a teacher's assistant at Burnley Moran Elementary School for 20 years. She took great delight in helping children learn and grow. Her passion for arts and crafts was well-used in the school. In 1994, the Virginia Education Association recognized Frances for her dedication to the teaching profession., Frances was an avid sports fan; she supported all local teams. She was particularly fond of the University of Virginia women's basketball team. Frances loved traveling and exploring various parts of the world. She had a love for nature and the outdoors. She spent many weekends camping and picnicking with family and friends., She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Earl F. Davis; and their four sons, Douglas and his wife, Michelle, of Ruckersville, Wayne and his wife, Lucille, of Baltimore, Maryland, Nelson and his wife, Carol, of Salem, and Steven and his wife, Neta, of Earlysville. Frances is also survived by two granddaughters and six grandsons. Frances leaves behind her aunt, Cornelia Gibson of Crozet; her sisters, Barbara and her husband, Lyn Beasley, of Charlottesville, Virginia and her husband, Charlie Laurin, of Stuarts Draft, and Emma J. and her husband, Woody Houghton, of Waynesboro. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Calvin Roberts and his wife, Diane, of Staunton., Frances is also survived by several in-laws, Billie and Joyce Davis of Orange County, Shirley and Dorothy Davis of Stanardsville, Marjorie and Marshall Foster of Pratts, Mary Shifflett of Aroda, Herbert and Arelene Davis of Baltimore, Maryland, Evelyn Roberts of North Gardens, and Betty Roberts of Nashville, Tennessee. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews., Frances had the unique quality that made everyone feel comfortable in her presence. Her motherly affection will surely be missed by her family and many friends., Frances' family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hope Cancer Center, Hospice of the Rapidan, and Dogwood Village for their caring support through her illness. Harold W. Gettle Jr., 79, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2010, in Johnson City, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Logwood (Betty) Gettle; and a granddaughter, Anna Elizabeth Love. He served his country faithfully in the, during the, and then re-enlisted in the U.S., serving for two years in Germany. He was a long time member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and had served as Deacon. For the majority of his life, he worked in management at McIlhaney Equipment Company. He was an avid fan of fishing, Nascar, and he once built his own motorcycle. He is survived by his daughter, Luanne Gettle Love and husband, Stephen R. Love; a grandson, Matthew Stephen Love, all of Johnson City, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Jean Logwood; a nephew, David Logwood, all of Roanoke; and a cousin, Bob Gettle, of Columbia, S.C. Herbert Lee Davis VIRGINIA BEACH - Herbert Lee Davis, 60, of the 1200 block of General St., passed away Aug. 6, 2010 in a local hospital. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Herbert P. and Evelyn H. Davis. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a distribution clerk after 17 years of service and was an Army veteran. He did Bible study with the Jehovah's Witnesses for six years. He was a martial arts instructor since 1984 and was an avid photographer and artist. He is survived by his wife, Minnie A. Davis; a daughter, Stephanie A. Davis of Norfolk; two sons, Christopher L. Davis and Andre N. Davis, both of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Pearl Roscoe and Marry Rizzo; two brothers, Clifford Davis and Tony Davis, all of Ohio; and three grandsons, Mykal, Matthew and Reylen. Crews of Buckingham, Va. Mr. Crews was born in Buckingham, Va. and served in World War II in Europe in the 82nd Airborne Division and was later called back to active duty in the Korean War, where he served in the 780th Field Artillery. After serving his country in the U.S. Military, he attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), where he obtained both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Agriculture. He worked until retirement at the Virginia State Federal Surplus Property Agency. He was a longtime, active member of Mulberry Grove Baptist Church in Buckingham, Va., where he served as a Deacon and held many other church offices. He was a member and past master of Buckingham Masonic Lodge #242 A.F. & A.M. He was also a member of the Richmond Scottish Rite Bodies and the ACCA Temple Shrine, where he was in the ACCA Chanters. He served as a volunteer barber at the Masonic Homes of Virginia in Richmond, Va. Family will receive visitors on Monday, August 9, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dunkum Funeral Home in Dillwyn, Va. A native of Princess Anne County, she was the daughter of the late Wallace Duncan Fisher and Ola Pebworth Fisher and wife for 38 years of the late Julian P. "Jack" Hill Jr. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her 12 siblings, Wallace Fisher, Nellie Brittingham, Bessie Vallastro, Jesse Fisher, Carlton Fisher, Emily Walker, Bennie Fisher, Perry Fisher, Agnes Birdzell, unnamed twin girls, and Arthur Fisher. She is survived by a daughter, Donna K. Hill and her partner Patti Horne of Chesapeake; a son, Michael Craig Hill and his wife Dana of Camden, N.C.; five grandchildren, Ryan Hill, Evan Webb, Megan Hill, Katelan Hill and Michael Hill; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and her beloved companion cat, Kiki. As the youngest of 13, Katie grew up in hand-me- downs. She got her first new dress for her high school graduation at Princess Anne High School in 1942. After high school, she moved to South Norfolk where she was employed at J.G. Wilson Corporation working there for 40 years as the bookkeeper in the engineering department. In 1946, she married Jack and they bought their family home on Corden Avenue in 1956. After losing her husband and retiring from J.G. Wilson, Katie became an active bowler in the Spare Time, Fun Time Bowling League with her sister, Emily. She also enjoyed walking with friends at the mall, playing the slots in Atlantic City, and watching "Young and the Restless" and "Wheel of Fortune" while drinking an ice-cold Pepsi and eating a Honey Bun. Louise was employed as a customer service representative with Lucent Technologies until her retirement in 1998. EUBANK, Nicholas Lansing Sr."Nick," 69, of South Richmond, passed away August 9, 2010. He was the widower of Bettie Hamilton Eubank. He was born in Richmond, September 29, 1940, to the late Charles Lansing Eubank and Mary Kirk Eubank. He is survived by his three children, Billie, Lance and Bob Eubank; four grandchildren, Chrissie, Candice, Caitlin and Cameron; a sister, Margaret Eubank Gerdts; and a special friend, Roshelle Payne. Mr. Eubank graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, where he was the Captain of the B Company Cadets, and was a 1966 graduate from the University of Richmond. He was the owner and president of Eubank Trucks, Inc. since 1968 and Pro Class Cycles. He was the former owner of Eubanks Leasing and American Machinery and Equipment Appraisal. He was past president of the Rotary Club of South Richmond from 1978 to 1979, past chairman of the Richmond Section of the Society of Automotive Engineers (S.A.E.). He was a senior member of the American Society of Appraisers, and was three time president of the Richmond Chapter. FULTZ, Nola Mae, 82, of Powhatan, passed away on August 8, 2010 at her beloved home Midway, where she was born on April 15, 1928, living there her entire life. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alma Carter Amos, and father, James Edward Amos. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Elwood Fultz; brother, Harry Amos (Christine) of Palmyra; nephews, John Amos of Powhatan, James Amos of Smithfield; nieces, Juanita Herndon of Palmyra and Christy Chandler of Winchester; and many other extended family members. Nola Mae was employed by the Federal Reserve Bank of Virginia for 39 years. She loved her gardens and was an avid antique and doll collector and was often seen at local auctions, where she made many friends. She especially enjoyed the Christmas season at Midway and had a way of making it special for family and friends. The family will receive friends Tuesday (tonight) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy. "Bob" Gray III, 63, of Eleanor, West Virginia, died peacefully on Sunday, August 8, 2010, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, West Virginia, following a short illness., He was born on June 27, 1947, in Fayetteville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Robert W. Gray II and Martha Bruce Gray. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Hugh Gray., He served in the United States Army Honor Guard from 1967 until 1969. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS in Biology and from West Virginia State College with a BA in Education. He spent many years in the family's floral business in Charlottesville, Virginia, served as a substitute teacher, primarily in middle schools, and was co-owner of Sam's Diner in Eleanor, West Virginia, for five years. He took pride in his ability to problem solve and was able to repair almost anything wrong with vehicles or household appliances and enjoyed teaching these skills to his daughter and nephews. William Mahon

William Floyd Mahon VIRGINIA BEACH - William Floyd Mahon, 72, passed away Aug. 4, 2010. He was born in Lorton, Va. to the late Mary Elizabeth Harrover and William Harold Mahon. He was a retired pastor from the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church after 40 years of dedicated and loving service to his Lord's calling. He was active in the Richmond and Tidewater Emmaus and Chrysalis community. He was involved with several mission trips. Bill was a graduate of Randolph Macon College and Duke University Divinity School. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years, Jean Long Mahon; sons, Clifford and Edward; sisters, Mary Anne Smith and husband Clavis, Gail Taylor and husband William, Jean Devers and husband Robert, June Lefler and husband Steve; brother, William and his wife Alice; numerous nieces, nephews, and several other family members. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 14, at 1 p.m. at Charity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Robertson III and the Rev. Dr. E. Thomas Murphy Jr. officiating. William Wright Bracy

Mr. William Wright "Bill" Bracy left this life to enter into holy peace on Monday, August 9, 2010, after a lengthy yet remarkably courageous battle with cancer., Mr. Bracy is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Betty Oliver Bracy; and his daughter, Lee Bracy and her partner, Barbara Loveland, of Gordonsville, Virginia. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Smith of Ahoskie, North Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends., Mr. Bracy was born on December 31, 1937, and was the youngest of seven children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Odie Lawrence Bracy Sr. and Eugenia Parker Bracy; his sister, Jenny Keel Taylor; his brothers, Odie Lawrence Bracy Jr., James Wilton Bracy, Roger Eugene Bracy and Albert Randolph Bracy. He was also preceded in death by his infant son, William Wright Bracy Jr., The family offers heartfelt thanks to all who were so gracious with their gifts of support, friendship, and prayer. They extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Paul Walker, Zenith Nelson, and Teresa Parent of the Leo Jenkins Cancer Center in Greenville, North Carolina, for their compassionate and skilled care during his illness. Also to the staff of Community Home Health Care and Hospice of Rocky Mount and the staff of the Hospice Inpatient Hospital in Greenville, North Carolina, for ensuring Bill's comfort during the final days of his transition., The family will receive friends from 11 until 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at Johnson Funerals and Cremations, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, North Carolina., Celebration of Life services will follow beginning at 2:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, 100 South Church Street, Rocky Mount., Graveside services will be held in Ahoskie, North Carolina, at Ahoskie Cemetery. Mr. Bracy will be eulogized by his daughter, Lee, and Reverend Bob Bergland. Pallbearers are Lee Bracy, Barbara Loveland, Ranny Starnes, Jerry Baker, Tony Bracy, and Terry Taylor., Memorial contributions may be offered to First United Methodist Church in Rocky Mount. Flowers will also be accepted., Arrangements are being handled by Johnson Funerals and Cremations, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
