Alfreda Cummins

Alfreda Cummins VIRGINIA BEACH - Alfreda "Mimi" Cummins was born May 19, 1926 in Toms River, N.J. She passed away Nov. 1, 2010 and leaves behind her daughter, Susan Boomer West of Norfolk (husband Henry). She is survived by her sisters, Antoinette Frank (daughter, Connie and husband Donnie) and Sue Bennett (daughters, Eileen and Annette, son, Kenny) who all live in Jersey. She had a son (Scott), granddaughter and two great-grandchildren in Indiana. Mimi was predeceased by the two men she loved. She spent the spring and summer of her life with her husband, Capt. Scott Cummins; life's autumn and winter years were with her fellow world traveler and loving companion, Lt. Cmdr. George Kirby. She was 84 years old when she made the transition into the next world. Hopefully, there will be plenty of hummingbirds for her to watch over. While Mimi was here on this earth, she was a true woman of nature. She knew when the hummers would arrive and when they would leave. She raised Monarch butterflies, watching them emerge and releasing them into the air. She had a green thumb as she kept beautiful orchids with no trouble whatsoever. She was a caring woman and a strong woman... a woman of integrity. She could be sitting on a park bench and anyone who sat next to her would be at ease and talk as if she was their friend. Mimi had a sense of humor that entertained many of her daughter's friends through the years. The world is a lesser place without her and she will be missed tremendously. She would want to make note of her two "chosen daughters" who were always vying for the No. 2 position, Jackie "Sunshine" Graham and Angela Miles. Also thanks to her only true friends in Pungo, Connie and John Steele for all of their care, concern and baked goodies brought over. Heartfelt thanks to all the angels at the Lydia Roper Home who took care of Mimi. Finally, I know Mimi would want to make note of how wonderful Angela and Charlton took care of her in her final days. Angie gave Mimi a new shot of life and for that we are forever grateful. There will be no funeral services. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.

The area he developed he eventually named Heritage Ridge. Years later, Mr. Castle retired once again moving to Belpre, Ohio for a few years prior to moving to The Villages, where he and his wife enjoyed their love of travel, entertaining family and friends.
