After graduating from Strayer Business College in Washington, D.C., Jerry worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard during World War II. Later, she worked at the Norfolk Paint Company, Rices, the Norva theatre, and the law firm of Taylor, Gustin, Harris, Fears & Davis. When she retired from full- time employment, she cared for her grandchildren and enjoyed expressing her creativity through sewing, quilting, cooking and writing her treasured "love letters" to encourage and support her family and friends. In the 1980s, she lived near Ward's Corner where she volunteered at the Jewish Community Center, Ballentine Place, and Lafayette Villa. Jerry made many beautiful baby quilts for the Ronald McDonald House at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. She loved to walk in her neighborhood, meet people and enjoy their company. She walked her 3-mile walk daily until she was in her late 80s. Her strength and determination amazed her family as they watched her recover from open heart surgery in 1965 and again in 1999. She gratefully acknowledged God's gift of renewed health and used her energy and talents to demonstrate God's love to all. She witnessed her faith by her actions every day.
