Cyrus Lawrence Wells

Cyrus Lawrence Wells, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away" Revelation 21:4, Mr. Cyrus Lawrence Wells Jr. was called from labour to reward on Monday, September 6, 2010., Although a resident of Charlottesville, he was born in Faber, Virginia, on October 31, 1938. He was the seventh child of the late Lars and Surilla Wells and a graduate of Jackson P. Burley High School., He was married to his beloved wife, the former Ardelia Bolling for 51 years. Preceding him in death was his granddaughter, Denetra Theodosia Yates; and four sisters, Edna Wells Jones, Margaret Wells Parrish, Beulah Wells Estes and Thelma Wells Garrison., Professing his faith and accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior, at an early age, he united with Mount Airy Baptist Church. The ideals and moral values by which he lived and the love and sense of service which he expressed so eloquently throughout his life form a lasting record worthy of admiration. After moving to Charlottesville, he became a watch care member of Pilgrim Baptist Church where he was a loyal and faithful Trustee. Later in life, he chose to return to Mount Airy Baptist Church where he later was Ordained as a Deacon 2008., Cyrus retired from The Charlottesville City Schools as Head Custodian for Charlottesville High School on June 30, 2003., A compassionate, warm, and loving person, Lawrence, "Jet, Mr. Vittles, Bunny and Cy" as he was affectionately known both near and far, was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. His unconditional generosity prevailed through his counseling and guidance of others. Some of his favorite sayings were, "You need to prepare for war in time of peace.", "No good thing is ever lost. Nothing dies, not even life which gives up one form to resume another. No good action, no good deed, no good example dies. It lives forever in the race of humankind. While the frame molders and disappears, the deeds leave an indelible stamp, and mould the very thought and will of future generations." And so it is with the life of Cyrus Lawrence Wells. Such a life, a character, a person --- possessed as it was with beauty, love, godliness and purpose will never be lost. His deeds, good works, and Christian example shall follow him long after his eternal rest., His passing on Monday is a deep loss to his family and friends. Those who will be most profoundly deprived of the warmth of his pleasing personality and the strength of his noble character include two children, Sandra Wells Jackson Allsbrooks of Richmond, Virginia, and Hazel Lisa Wells Yates of Charlottesville, Virginia: one son-in-law, James "Sergio" Charles Allsbrooks II of Richmond; one honorary son-in-law, Tim Oliver Jackson of Lynchburg, Virginia; four grandchildren, Chtaura Romayne Jackson, Caleb Ramon Jackson and Rashard Ian Jackson, all of Richmond, Virginia, and Christopher Lawrence Wells Yates of Charlottesville, Virginia; two sisters, Emma W. Johnson and Frances W. Gohanna, both of Charlottesville, Virginia; one brother-in-law, Robert Parrish of Staunton, Virginia; a number of nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends., The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Dr. Mohan Nadkarni, University of Virginia Medical Center staff and Hospice for the care given during his illness., Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Mount Airy Baptist Church in Faber, Virginia, with the interment at the church cemetery. The Bishop George Gohanna III will deliver the Eulogy. His remains will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service., J. F. Bell Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
