Ford Alice Ford, 78, died July 12, 2010. She was born April 15, 1932 in Saltville. She was a great cook and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Through it all she kept her faith in God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ford. Survivors include her children, Patricia (John) Nep, Mary (Keith) Dye, Phyllis (Lonnie) Stacy, Charles Ford Jr., and Norma (Brian) Wagner; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Maxine Smith; five sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service was conducted Friday, July 16, at 10 a.m. at D.R. Henderson Funeral Home, 148 East Main Street, Saltville, VA 24370. Burial was conducted at Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring. She attended Hollins College and the University of Virginia, where she received a B.S. in Education., She was married for 67 years to the Honorable David Barhydt "Barry" Marshall, Judge of the Charlottesville General District Court, who died last June., She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Agnes Marshall of Charlottesville; her son, David Barhydt Marshall Jr. of Washington, D.C.; her son, William Fife Marshall, daughter-in-law, Denise Pies Marshall, and grandchildren, Barry William and Elisabeth Ann of Warren, Michigan; and her daughter, Ann Herndon Marshall and son-in-law, Richard Cappuccio, of Charlottesville., The funeral will be private in accordance with her wishes. |

Betty Jane Jones KINGSPORT, Tenn. Betty Jane Price Jones of Kingsport went peacefully to be with the Lord early Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Indian Path Medical Center, following a brief Illness. She was born in Hawkins County and resided the majority of her life in Kingsport. She was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and listening to Gospel music. She was a wonderful wife and a loving mother. Preceding her in death are her parents, Elmer and Mary Lou Williams Price, two brothers, Dale Price and Basil Price and a sister, Grace Lawson. Survivors include her loving husband of 44 years, William (Bill) G. Jones Sr. of the home; daughter, Tammy Hawkins and husband, Larry, of Kingsport; son, Euggie Jones and wife, Jenny, of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Hogan Jones, Cooper Jones, Eli Jones, Jenny Hawkins Quesenberry and husband, Patrick, and Toby Hawkins; three great grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Paul Jones and wife, Robin, of Kingsport; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Jones of Piney Flats, Tenn. and Barbara Price of Kingsport; along with several nieces and nephews. D. Duane Dixon, 74, of Ft. Myers, Fla., and formerly of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2010. He was born on January 7, 1936 to the late Willie and Dot Dixon. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Duane Dixon. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan Kephart Dixon; sons, Matt Dixon, of St. Croix, and Brian Gearty, of Roanoke, Va.; daughters, Jennifer Dixon Williams (Mike), of Placentia, Calif., Amy Dixon Lowman (Sam), of Roanoke, Va., and Debbie Dixon Mulholland (Mark), of Leesburg, Va.; grandchildren, Austin and Miles Lowman, and Jacob, Joshua, and Rachael Williams; and a sister, Delores Dixon, of Roanoke, Va. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and Ferrum College. Duane retired after 25 years as a Roanoke City Fire fighter. Then went on to serve as Roanoke City Pension Trustee, 30 years as the Secretary Treasurer for the Virginia Professional Fire Fighters (which was the longest serving officer in the United States), treasurer for the Firefighters credit union, treasurer for the Firefighters Protective Association and President Emeritus for the Roanoke Fire Fighters Association. BRYANT, Dorisann, age 45, of Matoaca, Va., passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010. She was born in Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa., September 26, 1964. She was a loving mother, daughter, fiance‚, sister, aunt and friend. She was always known for being a strong, proud woman both physically and intellectually. She was able to carry those traits throughout both her academics and careers. Prior to college, Dorisann attended and completed her high school degree at B.O.K.A.B.T. Throughout Dorisann's academic career, she was always one of the top students in her classes and professions. Dorisann was a proud and well-respected nurse, EMT, and medical technician. During her time away from her professions and academia, Dorisann loved to volunteer and give to her community. She participated in blood drives, food donations, and numerous fundraisers. One of her biggest philanthropic accomplishments was being a positive and active foster parent while still raising four children of her own. Dorisann Bryant was preceded in death by her sister, Allery Green; and grandparents, Thomas and Nancy Bryant. LITTLE, George Borum, age 84, died July 15, 2010. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of John Calvin Little and Sarah Borum Little. Educated in the Baltimore and Richmond Public Schools, he attended Hampden-Sydney College prior to entering the U.S. Army in 1943. He served three years, the last of which in the Sulu Archipelago, Philippines. Following World War II, he graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1949, where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi, Order of the Coif and Associate Editor of the Virginia Law Review. After serving as law clerk for the Honorable Morris A. Soper, U.S. Court of Appeals, 4th Judicial Circuit, he was recalled to service in the Korean War. A member of the U.S. Army Counterintelligence Corps, he was headquartered in Beppu, Japan. Practicing law for 57 years, he represented, among other other clients, the Richmond School Board in the School Integration suits and the School Consolidation case heard in the U.S. Supreme Court. Prior to his retirement in 2006, he concentrated in the area of estate planning and trust administration. He was a member of the Richmond Bar, the Virginia State Bar and the American and Inter-American Bar Associations. A member of Centenary United Methodist Church since 1939, he had served as Chairman of the Trustee Board and Chairman of the Official Board. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Anne Beazley Little; and three children and their spouses, George Borum Little Jr. and Deborah Shaner Little, Amanda Little Surgner and William Hildebrandt Surgner Jr., and Wyatt Larkin Little and Jennifer Bennett Little. There are nine grandchildren, George Borum Little III, Connor Beale Little, Anne Walker Surgner, William Reeves Hildebrandt Surgner, Kathryn Nicholas Surgner, George Tucker Surgner, Ruth Sheridan Little, Nora Flanagan Little and Anne Larkin Little. A memorial service will be held at the Westminster Canterbury Sara Belle November Theater at 2 p.m. Monday, July 19. He was born March 21, 1926 in Marion, Ohio, to the late Albert and Sadie (Couthard) Davis. On Aug. 1, 1967 in Elizabeth City, N.C., he married Mattie M. James Douglas "Jim" Shoun, 67, 536 Terry Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Bristol Regional Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. He was the son of the late Fred Hatfield Shoun and Virginia Elizabeth Cannaday Shoun and was born in McDowell County, W.Va. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Huskins, and a brother, Jerry Shoun. Mr. Shoun was retired from Amerace Corporation and worked part-time at Auto Zone in Bristol Tennessee. He was a member of Throne of Grace Baptist Tabernacle. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Mr. Shoun is survived by his wife, Barbara Peery Shoun of the home; three daughters, Tamara Johnson, Bristol Virginia; Linda Stevenson and her husband, Chris, Bristol Virginia; Gail Broyles, Sugar Valley, Ga.; seven grandsons, Thomas Slaughter, Sklar Johnson, Riley Stevenson, Weston Brown, Nicholas Broyles, Jonathan Broyles, and Zachery Broyles; a brother, Fred "Sonny" Shoun and his wife, Barbara M., Elizabethton, Tenn.; two sisters, Frances Shoun, Eugene, Ore., and Virginia "Jenny" Coleman, Springfield, Ore. Allen Jerry N. Allen, 73, died Monday, July 12, 2010 in the Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tenn. He was born on Nov. 14, 1936 in Rowan County, N.C., to the late Milas Warner Allen and Margaret Holder Allen. He attended grammar school, high school and college in Salisbury, N.C. He graduated from Boyden High School in 1955 and Catawba College in 1959 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He worked for the Salisbury Post for four years while attending college. After his military service in the Army National Guard and United States Army Reserves, he worked in the office of Cannon Mills Co. in Kannapolis, N.C., where he met his wife of 49 years, Bernice Foil Allen. He was employed at Martin Maraetta Corp. in Orlando, Fla., Beaunit Fibers, Raleigh, N.C., and Elizabethton, Tenn. He had also worked at Bristol Memorial Hospital in Bristol, Tenn., Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, and for Lowes Home Improvement Corp. in Marion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Robert Foil, and a niece, Jatana Barton. Survivors include his wife, Bernice Allen; two sons, Derick Gerald Allen and wife, Lori, and Mathew Warner Allen and wife, Tammy; two grandchildren, Summer Nicole Allen and Sarah Elizabeth Allen; one stepson, Alvin Doby and wife, Kathi; and a step-granddaughter, Allison Doby. Lloyd Earl Harrington Sr. DAMASCUS, Va. Mr. Lloyd Earl Harrington Sr., age 77, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at his home. He was born on July 23, 1932, in Salem, N.J., a son of the late Jackson Emerson Harrington Sr. and Helen Harbeson Harrington. Mr. Harrington had been a resident of Washington County, Va., for the past 17 years and was a member of the Konnarock Seventh-day Adventist Church in Konnarock, Va. He was also a member of the Williamstown Lodge No. 166 F&AM of Williamstown, N.J., and served seven years in the U.S. Air Force. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl Marie Harrington. He is survived by his wife, Mae Roop Harrington of Damascus; two daughters, Kathy Sue Murphy of Franklinville, N.J., and Jill Marie Huenke of Monroeville, N.J.; two sons, Jackson Emerson Harrington III of Auburn, N.J., and Lloyd Earl Harrington Jr. of Encampment, Wyo.; one stepdaughter, Janice E. BLANTON, Nell Clay, 93, of Amelia, widow of Reuben Lee Blanton, died July 15, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Ruth Alley and Everette C. Clay. She was born in Richmond, but spent most of her life in Amelia County. Mrs. Blanton graduated from the Blackstone College for Girls in 1937. She was the oldest member of the Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Amelia, where she served for many years as the Communion Steward, a member of the Parsonage Committee, the Administrative Board and a Sunday School teacher. She is survived by her son, Reuben L. Blanton Jr. of Amelia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Nell Tatum (Rev. Gene C.) of Amelia, Betty B. Wood (H.B.) of Woodville, Va.; one grandson, Henry B. Wood III (Angela); and two great- grandchildren, Julia and Henry Wood of Woodville, Va. He was a member of the Keen Mountain United Methodist Church where he served on numerous boards and committees. As a young man, he served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Mr. West was a 54-year member of the Sandy Valley Masonic Lodge No. 17, Grundy, Va. He served the Boy Scouts of America as Scout Master. Mr. West was an avid golfer and had formerly served as a board member of the Tazewell County Country Club and the Columbia Clinch Valley Hospital. Donour., Victor was a devoted and loving husband, son, brother and uncle., He is survived by his wife, Jenny Graves Shifflett of Albemarle County; his parents, Victor and Sandra Shifflett; father-in-law, Jeff Graves and his wife, Missy of Louisa; mother-in-law, Fonda Graves and her fiance, Earl Paynter of Gordonsville; sister, Mandi Marchette and her husband, Reade and their son, Chase, of Ruckersville; brother, Trevor Shifflett and his girlfriend, Sara Dean, of Ruckersville; brother-in-law, Forrest Evan Graves of Albemarle County; grandmothers, Lola E. Roberts of Stanardsville and Patsy H. Donour of Ruckersville; uncles, Vincent R. Shifflett and his wife, Vicki and their son, Todd and his wife, Laura and son, Dylan, Charles Ferrell Donour and his wife, Kim and their children, Joshua, Leah Beth, Jeremiah, Ethan and Seth; extended family, Butch, Pam and Justin Doshier and Stevi Belew; and many other family members and friends., The family would like to thank the staff of the University of Virginia Health System, especially the Neurological Team., It is with a very heavy heart that we release Victor to God, but we can all take solace in the fact that Victor brought joy to many people and in return he was deeply loved by many. During a time like this people always say, "He will be missed," and they are right he will be. But we know a part of Victor lives on forever through our love, strength, memories and the gifts he gave to others. He was always an amazing storyteller so we promise to never let his story end. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Henry and Sarah Eliza Sloan Jamerson; her brother, Henry Jamerson; and her husband, Leroy Heisler. She is survived by her son, Grafton L. Heisler and his wife, Linda; granddaughter, Chrissy Owens and her husband, Jason; grandson, Jason Reid; three brothers, James Jamerson, Richard Jamerson and Herman Jamerson and his wife, Joanne; a niece, Joni Borrell; numerous other nieces and nephews; and her canine companion, Alex. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bliley's-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where a funeral service will be held 12 noon Monday. Wendell was employed by Adams Construction Company for 45 years. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patty; brothers, Charles Harter and his wife, Phyllis, Joe Harter and wife, Betty and Ronald Harter; sisters, Lucy Dalton and husband, Tim, Donna Harris and husband, Danny; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Parker (Toby) Hippert and wife, Tonya. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and his Kitty Cat "Tiger". Services will be held at Oakey's East Chapel on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Leonard Hall officiating. Sheets William Tyler Sheets of Glade Spring died Wednesday, July 14, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Saltville June 20, 1966 to Bill and Linda Sheets. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bill and Hazel Frye, and paternal grandfather, Ed Sheets. Survivors include his parents; one brother, Jamie Sheets of the home; paternal grandmother, Frances Sheets of Glade Spring; special aunt, Carol Barrett; very special friend, Lee Coburn; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at the Glade Spring Rescue Squad with the Rev. Paul Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Rose Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday also at the rescue squad. Pallbearers will be Jared Stanley, Brian Hancock, Blaine Bumgardner, Gabe Nelson, Josh Hale, and Chris Bryant. Honorary pallbearers will be Glade Spring Rescue Squad, fire department and police Department. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Glade Spring Rescue Squad or fire department.
