Jan 1, 2010 SOUTH BOSTON — Annie Estelle Nichols Ricketts, 99, of the Clover community, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at The Woodview. She was born March 22, 1910, in Halifax County to Charlie Nichols and Sallie Nichols Nichols. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Bennett "Bennie" Ricketts; four sisters, Mary "Minnie" Bomar, Rosa Lee "Shine" Roller, Irene Roller and Gladys Smiley; three brothers, Edward Nichols, Vince Nichols and Garland Nichols; and one granddaughter, Donna Melton. She was a member of Clover Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Barnett of Martinsville and Anne Williams of Nashville, Tenn.; a son, Garland B. Ricketts of South Boston; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Powell Funeral Home in South Boston with the Rev. Lloyd Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Clover Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Clover Baptist Church or a charity of choice.

Barbara Jean Morris

MORRIS, Barbara Jean Brown, 77, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2009, after complications from a colonoscopy. A feisty woman, with a zest for life, Barbara was known for her pizzazz and love for family. Much of her professional life was spent as an accounts payable supervisor for Best Products Company. After retirement, Barbara was constantly on "the go." She spent many days by the water or traveling with her sister and family. Extremely personable, Barbara never knew a stranger. She spoke to everyone and left a lasting impression with each person she met. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Joe T. Morris Sr.; daughter, Carla Jean Morris; and brother, James E. Brown. She is survived by three children, Cassandra "Sandy" Morris DeShazo (Joe); Joe "Cricket" Morris Jr. (Suzan) and Joan "Windie" Morris Lane (David); a devoted sister, Joan Guthrie; a brother, Kenneth Brown (Alycia); grandchildren, Joe "Tre" Morris III (Rachel), Adrianne Smith (Erik), Nicholle Anderson (Chris), Mathew DeShazo, Daniel Morris, Hamilton "Ackey" Lane, Alex Lane, Gary Shepler; eight great-grandchildren; niece, Carroll Slaymaker (Jerry); and nephew, Walter Guthrie. A memorial service celebrating Barbara's life will be held at Stukeley Hall Baptist Church, 601 Azalea Ave., on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association or American Heart Fund. Barbara Ann Knisley BRISTOL, Tenn. Barbara Ann Knisley, age 73, passed away Jan. 1, 2010, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born Feb. 18, 1936, in Johnson City, Tenn., a daughter of the late Hugh and Nell Shell McMackin. She has lived in the Bristol area for the past 20 years and was a member of Whitley City Church of God. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Knisley; and two brothers, Garry Lynn McMackin and Larry Hugh McMackin. Survivors include: daughters, Betsy A. Moore of Bristol, Suzie Turner of Ohio and Becky Knisley of Ohio; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Blankenship; brother, Mike McMackin; several nieces and nephews. Bernard Lee Hayes Sr. (Red or Gabby), 82, of 22824 Dabney Mill Road, Petersburg, Va., departed this life Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Southside Regional Medical Center., Bernard was born Nov. 6, 1927, to the late Mark E. Hayes Sr. and Lottie Mae Hayes in Dinwiddie, Va. He retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corp. with 34 years of service. He was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church and loved listening to gospel music and fishing. He is preceded in death by a son, Bernard Lee Hayes Jr., and five brothers, Earl, Mark, Raymond, Joseph and Floyd Hayes., Left to cherish his fond memories is his wife of 53 years, Lillie Mae Hayes; nine children, Charlotte Meredith (Calvin), Clara Hepburn (Spencer), Pauline Tonsil (Trumie), Clifton Wilkins (Margaret), James E. Hayes, Brenda Hayes, Frances Talley (William), Joyce Hicks (James) and Xavier Hayes; two sisters, Evelyn H. Moss and Rachel Lawrence; one brother, James M. Hayes Sr. (Mary); four sisters-in-law, Bertha Jefferson (Gilbert), Alma Wilkins of Maryland, Marie Thorpe, Mary Hayes and Pauline Wilkins; one brother-in-law, Graddy Ridley; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; three foster children, Betty Reid, Warren Jefferson and Marjorie Hudson; a host of nephews nieces, cousins and other relatives, to include a devoted nephew, Darryl Hayes, sister-in-law, Shirley Yates, and cousin, Ralph Nicholas., Memorial services will be held on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Olive Branch Baptist Church, 11119 Boydton Plank Road, Dinwiddie, Va. JONES, Mrs. Bernice P., went home to be with her Lord on December 30, 2009. She was the widower of Carlton T. Jones. She was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Sharonda. She is survived by one daughter, Parthenia Hubbard; and one son, Earl Johnson (Mamie). She was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other devoted family members and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Bessie Ruth Hart Haga CHILHOWIE, Va. Mrs. Bessie Ruth Hart Haga passed away on Dec. 31, 2009, at 1:20 p.m. in the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, Va. She was born on July 29, 1914, in Ashe County,N.C., to the late Rev. Wells Hart and Minnie Graham Hart. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Ashe County, N.C., and attended Macedonia Baptist Church in Chilhowie, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Haga; six brothers, Donley, Roey, Luther, Lester, Walter and Joe Hart; two sisters, Reba Hart and Hattie Price. Mrs. Haga never lost sight of what was truly important in her life. She had an abiding faith that never wavered and an unconditional love for her family and friends. This was demonstrated by the choices she made and the way she spent her time. She always placed the needs of others above her own. She will be greatly missed by many. Survivors include: two daughters, Janet Haga Medley and husband Pat, Graham, N.C., Sharon Haga Thompson and husband Craig, Murrells Inlet, S.C.; one son, Roy Don Haga and wife Bonnie, Chilhowie, Va.; eight grandchildren, Kathy Mash and husband Jeff, Chilhowie, Va., Rev. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at 8 p.m., from the Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Blevins and Rev. Lloyd Day officiating. Charles Parrish

PARRISH, Charles Peter, died peacefully at his home on December 31, 2009. Peter was the son of the late William Joseph Parrish and Kathleen Rogerson Parrish, brother of the late William Joseph Parrish Jr., and father of the late Charles Kent Parrish. He was a graduate of St. Christopher's School and the University of Virginia, and one of UVa's most loyal football fans. Peter was a vice president at Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company. In retirement, he served as treasurer of the Virginia Genealogical Society. Also important in his life was the Wednesday Fellowship Group. For pleasure, he loved his garden in Louisa. Peter had a gentle soul and a caring heart. He will be truly missed by his wife, Sarah Kent Parrish; his daughter, Clair W. Parrish; his son, Edward R. Parrish and his wife, Sarah Gray Parrish; and his grandsons, Randolph and Whit Parrish. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Parrish Stringfellow, and sisters-in-law, Anne Moore Parrish and Martha A. Kent, and a wonderful group of nieces and nephews and their families. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 4 at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Christopher's School Scholarship Fund.

She was born Feb. 10, 1925, in Henry County to Cornett Wade and Annie Hagwood Wade. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Shelton Jr. She was a member of Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church and the Missionary. Dale was a member of Sandston Baptist Church and sang in the choir for many years. He was also a dedicated member of the Masons and resided in the Masonic Home of Virginia. Survivors: daughter, Tonya Barker and husband Chuck; son, Randy Turner; grandchildren, Josh and Brandon Barker, Megan Cullop, Amber Kadin, Israel and Christopher Turner and Amy Suiter; five great-grandchildren; special daughter, Dreama "Missy" Chapman and husband Don. Jan 1, 2010 Edwin Hobart Seay, 84, of 117 Askin St., Martinsville, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. He was born June 24, 1925, in Henry County to Peter Gray Seay and Annie Keen Seay. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Blanch Mills Seay; and a sister, Lera Seay Hill. Seay served in the Navy during World War II and worked at DuPont for 37 years as a power house supervisor. He was a member of Starling Avenue Baptist Church and he had been a member of Masonic Piedmont Lodge 152 A.F. and A.M. for 55 years. Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca C. Reamey of Martinsville and Donna Seay Floyd of Collinsville; a son, Michael E. Seay of Bassett; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Jose R. She is also survived by her sister, Suzanne Wilson and her husband, David, and a brother, Stephen Drake and his wife, Nancy, and many nieces and nephews. Elaine attended Salem College, was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and The Junior League of Richmond, where she served as office administrator for 17 years. ARCHER, Dr. John Stanard Jr., of Richmond, Va., died December 28, 2009. Born May 25, 1917, to the late John Stanard Archer and Jeanette Baird Jacob Archer. Preceded in death by his wife, Helen Kirtley Archer and sister, Lloyd Archer Kanary. He is survived by six children, Glen Enochs and husband, James; Elizabeth O'Ferrall and husband, McLain; John Archer lll and wife, Len; Cynthia Montague and husband, Peter; Tad Archer; Fielding Archer and wife, Meredyth; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Stanard graduated from the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity, and the Medical College of Virginia, where he did his residency in otolaryngology. He was a former staff member of the Richmond Eye Ear Nose and Throat Hospital; volunteer physician at McGuire Veterans Hospital and the Virginia State Penitentiary. A World War ll veteran, he was an army captain in the 70th field hospital attached to the Flying Tigers. Stanard served on the Vestry at St. James's Episcopal Church, the board of the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities and as President of the Parents Council of the Virginia Military Institute. "Poppy," as he was known by his grandchildren, was a kind, wonderful and talented person who was loved by his family and friends and will be missed by all. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5 at St. James's Episcopal Church. James Heath Jr.

James Daniel Heath Jr. GLADE SPRING, Va. James Daniel Heath Jr., 87, passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at the James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center, Community Living Center, at Johnson City, Tenn., where he resided for over the past five years. Until retirement, Mr. Heath served as manager of the Meadowview Mill, a subsidiary of Roanoke City Mills. He grew up in Washington County and attended the Barracks School. Mr. Heath was of the Christian faith, loved the outdoors, and being with his family and grandchildren. He was a loving father and friend and will be missed by those who knew him. He was born April 20, 1922, in Washington County, Va., and was the son of the late James Daniel Heath and Maggie Barlow Heath. Mr. Heath was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Parlee E. Heath and also an infant great-granddaughter, Aaleeyah Brooke Eller. He also was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Surviving are two daughters, Joyce Eller and husband, Steve of Chilhowie, Va.; Janet Campbell of Abingdon, Va.; one grandson, Ryan Eller of Bristol Virginia; one granddaughter, Leann Nunley and husband, Jessee; and great-grandson, Jacen Luke Nunley, of Meadowview, Va. Mr. Heath was a World War II Veteran, wounded in action, serving in the Army Combat Infantry Division in the European-Africian-Middle Eastern Theater and fought in Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland, Germany. He was a decorated World War II Veteran receiving two Purple Hearts, Bronze Star and M-1 Rifle Marksman and other metals. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, inside the Forest Hills Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with Rev. David St. Clair and Chaplain Kevin Holmes officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Pleasant View United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. A private Interment for Mr. Heath will be at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. James Roger Barrett NOKESVILLE, Va. Major James Roger Barrett, USMC Ret., age 67, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol Tennessee. He was born May 28, 1942, in Washington County, Va., to the late Annie Gertrude Harless and Clarence Roscoe Barrett. Infant twins, Carl and Carlene Barrett; four sisters, Fannie Marie Stevens, Carolyn Anna Davis, Patsy Powers and Josie Ellen Parker; and one brother, John Frank Barrett, also preceded him in death. He attended Greendale High School and All Saints Church in Woodbrige, Va. He was a retired major USMC of 30 years and the owner/operator of Oak Leaf Stables in Nokesville. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Gail Thompson Barrett of Nokesville; one daughter, Wendy Diana Levine and husband Jim of Taylor, Texas; one son, James Roger Barrett II and wife Tami of Knoxville, Tenn.; four sisters, Mary Quinn and husband Cleo of Biloxi, Miss., Barbara Armstrong and husband Louis of Livingston, Texas, Julia Roark and husband Johnny and Linda Fields and husband Joe, all of Abingdon, Va.; four brothers, Clarence David Barrett and wife Margie of Salisbury, Md., William Gerald Barrett and wife Patty of Sugar Grove, Va., Larry Clayton Barrett and wife Naomi and Michael Henry Barrett, all of Abingdon; eight grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jesse Thomas Adams BRISTOL, Va. Jesse Thomas Adams, age 85, went to see God on Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, at his home. He was born Aug. 4, 1924, in Ponca, Neb., a son of the late Clarence Leroy and Mary Francis (Fitzgerald) Adams. He was an altar boy for Father Flanagan (before he established Boy's Town Home in Nebraska.) He was a World War II veteran with the U.S. Navy. Jesse worked for the Sioux City Stockyard. He was a union representative for the employees and set up the union pension program. He trained in Waterloo, Iowa and became a USDA Government Meat Inspector. He traveled to Newark, N.J., to process and inspect the Kosher Meat Plant. He transferred to Bristol as his home base but still traveled to New York, Virginia and Tennessee. He worked for the government as an inspector at Valleydale, Armour and Joe Range's and retired in January 1987. Through the years in Bristol he owned Hill Country Trailer Park and "The Donut Shop". Jesse graduated in Ponca, Neb., and from the USDA School in Iowa and he was a member of the American Legion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Pflughoeft; second wife, Mary B. Adams; children, Kathryn M. Adams, Mary Margaret Adams and Caroline Buchanan; brothers, Pat, Donald and Clarence Adams; and sister, Rita Myers. Survivors include: children, Patricia A. Adams of Milford, IA; Michael L. Adams and wife Debra of Bristol Tennessee; Belinda S. McCracken and husband Danny Ray of Bristol Virginia; Thomas W. Adams; Margaret M. Adams of Bluff City, Tenn.; brothers, Louis, Bernard and Francis Adams; grandchildren, John Dishman and wife Christina, Angela Lilly and husband Bobby, Travis McCracken and wife April, Michael Adams, Jesseica Cruz, Luke Adams and Marrisa Adams; eight great-grandchildren, R.T. Lewis A. Hendrick Sr.

Mr. Lewis A. Hendrick Sr., 79, of 4810 Garfield St., Hopewell, answered God's call on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009 and went home to be with the Lord., He was a native of Mecklenburg County, the son of the late George and Rosa Hargrove Hendrick Sr. and the widower of Louetta T. Hendrick, his wife of forty-two years. Mr. Hendrick accepted Christ at an early age at the Roanoke Zion RZUA Church and was a member until he moved his membership to Union Baptist Church, Hopewell, where he served as vice president on the Usher Board and was a member of the Trustee Board. He received his early education in the Mecklenburg County Schools. Mr. Hendrick moved to Petersburg around 1948 and later moved to Prince George County in 1955 where he lived until his death. He was employed at Hercules in Hopewell receiving many awards and recognitions for his service and retired after 38 years of service. He was also a faithful employee of Turner-Bland Funeral Home for over 20 years. Lewis befriended everyone he met, many of them turning into lasting friendships., He was preceded in death by six brothers, Eddie, Algie, George, Haywood, Joseph and Willie; and four sisters, Ida, Edmonia, Naomia and Dorothy., Mr. Hendrick was a member of Shiloh Lodge #33 Prince Hall Masons for over 50 years, also where he received the degree of Past Master in 2007-2008; a member of Sunlight Elks Lodge #1558; and the Lilley of the Valley #44 Order of Eastern Star. He attended numerous conventions across the United States and the Caribbean. Lewis was always willing to help wherever and whenever he could., He leaves to cherish his memories three sons, Lewis Jr. (Joyce) of Chester, Larry of Richmond and Levi of Petersburg; one daughter, Etta H. BELCOLORE, Louis R., age 60, of Newtown, Conn., died December 7, 2009 in Danbury, Conn. He was the husband of Jeannette (Barressi) Belcolore. He was born on September 18, 1949 in Queens, N.Y., a son of the late Louis P. and Margaret (Bodnovich) Belcolore. Lou served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1970 to 1972. He was employed by IBM from 1968 to 1998 and by Altria from 1999 to 2007. Mr. Belcolore resided in Wappingers Falls, N.Y. from 1979 to 2003 and in Richmond, Va. from 2003 to 2007, when he moved to Newtown. In addition to his wife of 37 years, Lou is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Belcolore-Arguello and her husband, Raul, and Lisa Merrill and her husband, Kevin; and four grandchildren, Isabella Mia Arguello, Gabriella Sofia Arguello, Antonio Arguello and Benjamin Merrill. Jan 1, 2010 The funeral for Moir Samuel Edwards, 81, of 833 Wagon Trail Road, Ridgeway, who died Dec. 30, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Red Hollow Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Carl Morgan officiating. Burial will be in the Edwards family cemetery in Ridgeway. The family will receive friends at the church for an hour before the funeral Monday and other times at the home. He was born Feb. 26, 1928, in Patrick County to James W. Edwards and Fannie Redd Edwards Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was an Army veteran and retired from National Building Systems, where he worked for 35 years. He was a member of Red Hollow Primitive Baptist Church, where he was treasurer. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Reid Edwards of the home; two daughters, Rhonda E. Vollink and Demetria Edwards, both of Ridgeway; a son, Moir C. Edwards of Ridgeway; four sisters, Charity E. Martin of Ridgeway, Edith Pitzer of Martinsville, Barbara Payne of Ridgeway and Iris Stone of Indianapolis, Ind.; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild. Moore, Alfred Huston

Rev. Alfred Huston Moore, 84, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully in his sleep early December 31, 2009. After a long and hard battle in his later years, he finished the course and has "received the crown laid up for him". He is now experiencing what he loved to quote from John Chapter 14: "In my Father's house are many mansions, I go to prepare a place for you and if I go away I will come again and receive you unto myself that where I am there you may be also....", Alfred Huston Moore was born February 21, 1925 in Salem, Va. and grew up in Floyd County, Va. He is the son of Jacob Moore and Emma Sweeney Moore. In 1943 1945, he served his nation with the US Navy in Hawaii and the Marshall Islands during the Second World War. After discharge, he indulged his love of adventure by hitchhiking to Texas and back and working on the James River Fleet in Newport News., In June, 1949 he married Lois Bayse of Salem, Va. and answered God's call to the ministry. After graduation from Allentown Bible Institute in Allentown, Pa., his first pastorate was Christo Pilgrim Holiness Church on Bent Mountain, Va. He also pastored in Christiansburg, Va., Boissevain, Va., and Five Forks Wesleyan Church in Stuart, Va. In addition, he filled many pulpits around southwest VA as a supply pastor. He had a secondary career as a painter at the Salem VA Medical Center and retired in 1987. He loved woodworking and created many beautiful pieces of furniture for himself and his family., He is survived by two brothers, Edward Moore, of Virginia Beach, Va. and Jack Moore, of Mocksville, N.C.; also, his children and their spouses, Glen and Fran Moore, of Greensboro, N.C., Ronald and Ruth Moore Wilson, of Stuart, Va., Mary Moore Mabe, of Roanoke, Va., James and Roberta Moore, of Kansas City, Mo., Ronnie and Karen Moore Gregory, of Stuart, Va., Raymond and Debbie Moore Laffoon, of Suffolk, Va., Micah and Margaret Ann Moore Travis, of Indianapolis, Ind., John Moore, of Indianapolis, Ind. and Randy and Sandra Moore Bandy, of Bedford, Va. Lois, his wife and partner of 55 years, preceded him in death in 2005 and his daughter, Lois Juanita Moore Owens, in 1972. Pat Christensen, 80, died on Thursday, December 17, 2009, at The Laurels of Charlottesville, while recovering from a brief illness., She was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, in May, 1929 to the late Whitney Gordon Leighty and Edna Coder Leighty. Her family moved to Dubuque, Iowa, where she was raised on the banks of the Mississippi River and started her lifetime love of the water., After she married, she moved to Skaneateles, New York, where she worked for the Skaneateles school system and was a charter member of the Skaneateles Ambulance Corp for 12 years. After her marriage ended, her beloved mother-in-law, Helen Christensen, offered help if Pat wanted to leave the snows of New York to move to Dallas, Texas, which she did in 1981., Years later, after the death of her mother-in-law and the failure of multiple savings and loan companies she worked for, she moved to Charlottesville, Virginia. She had fallen in love with Virginia when she visited from drab, winter ravished New York State at Easter and the gardens were in bloom and beautiful., Pat lived in Charlottesville since 1989, with both appearance and activity level defying her age. She spent hours at the Senior Center, MedFit, ACAC, and in local classes on an interesting variety of topics. Pat travelled at every opportunity, with trips ranging from international vacations to multiple visits to Williamsburg, Virginia, every year. Pat's true passion was being a volunteer at the University of Virginia Medical Center where she started in the Cancer Center in 1992, moved to the Hospice and Palliative Care Unit for nine years and then returned to her first love, the Cancer Center. He later served as a Food Production Manager for the Blue Ridge Hospital in Charlottesville. Vivian H. Dempsey JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. Mrs. Vivian H. Dempsey, 85, 1608 Idlewilde Drive, passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at her residence. Mrs. Dempsey was a native of Kingston, Tenn., who had lived in Johnson City since 1946. She was the daughter of the late Harvey and Doris Wilhoit Houser. In addition to her parents, one son, Sam Dempsey; one sister, Ruth Ann Houser; one brother, H.T. Houser Jr.; one grandson, Jimmy Dempsey; also preceded her in death. Mrs. Dempsey was a registered nurse for 32 years for the V.A. Hospital. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Johnson City and also the Mr. And Mrs. Sunday School Class. Survivors include: her husband of 61 years, Ivan J. Dempsey of the home; one daughter, Jane Crewey and her husband John of Bristol; one son, Jerry Dempsey and his wife Sue of Piney Flats; two brothers, Charlie P. Houser and his wife Hueretta of Chesapeake, Va., and Rudolph Houser and his wife Norma of Florida; one granddaughter, Jennifer Carter and her husband Josh of Johnson City; one grandson, Sam Nelson of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Vivian H. Dempsey will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Roland Whittemore and Dr. Delno Brown will officiate. The graveside committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Marlene Iroler Watson, 67, of Midlothian, formerly of Kenbridge and Hillsville, entered into rest Wednesday, December 30, 2009 from the effects of Lewy Body Dementia. Marlene was born in Baltimore, Md. and raised in Carroll County, Va. and was preceded in death by her parents, Benton and Flora Iroler. She was a graduate of Radford College (now University) and retired after more than 30 years as a teacher in the Lunenburg Co. Public School System. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Ben L. Watson III; daughter, Stacy W. Gard, of Midlothian; sons, Ricky Watson, of San Antonio, Texas, Randy Watson, of Chesterfield; grandchildren, Logan, Morgan, Molly, Lee, Katherine and Maylynn; sisters, Shirley I Martin (Curt) and Mary I Surratt (Marlin) both of Hillsville, Va. The family will receive friends at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville VA, Monday, January 4, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be private. William "Bill" Hunter Zeiner, 61, of Prince George, Va., passed away Dec. 28, 2009, unexpectedly from a massive heart attack., Bill was the devoted son of Frank Zeiner and the late Joyce Zeiner of Prince George., Bill was retired from the Department of Defense with 30 years of service. He continued to work as a contractor at the Defense Commissary Agency in Fort Lee. He was a graduate of Prince George High School and Virginia Commonwealth University, a member of the Claremont Sportsman Club, a board member of Fort Lee Federal Credit Union and a member of First Baptist Church in Hopewell. Bill was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends and family. Bill was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather., Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Barbara Mabe Zeiner; their children, Mark Zeiner, Brad (and Gara) Zeiner and Krystal Zeiner; four grandchildren; brother, Fritz Zeiner and wife Genie., The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Zemar Morgan BRISTOL, Tenn. Zemar Morgan, age 92, passed away Dec. 31, 2009, at the Cambridge House. He was born Sept. 12, 1917, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a son of the late Grover and Zella Smith Morgan. He was a chemical operator and a member of the American Legion. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving in World War II and the widower of Bella Hardy Morgan.
