Elton Earl Baker VIRGINIA BEACH - Elton Earl Baker, 92, went to be with the Lord Feb. 4, 2009. A native of South Norfolk, he was the son of the late Frank and Fannie Baker. Nine months after Elton's birth, his father joined his Savior. Elton's mother later married the late Roy C. Lane who raised Elton like his own son. Elton went to Oceana High School and served in the Merchant Marines during the war. He owned Baker's Esso at Taussig and Granby Street from 1946 until the late 50s, then he opened Arrowhead Union 76 in Kempsville and was there until he retired. Mr. Baker was an avid golfer and loved to work in his garden. He was a member of London Bridge Baptist Church and a Mason. He will always be remembered and missed by his family and friends as a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his wives, Marguerite Belanga Baker in 1951 and Alice Matthews Perry Baker in 1995; his sister, Thelma Baker in 1915; and his brother, William Edward "Willie" Baker in 1980. Colquitt Prater (C.P.) Brackett Jr., 62, of Roanoke, Va., an Attorney and Counselor at Law and curator of the Toy Museum at Natural Bridge, Va., unexpectedly passed away on January 30, 2009, at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Salem, Va. C.P. was born on February 24, 1946, in Norfolk, Va., the son of the late Antoinette Cacace Brackett and Colquitt Prater Brackett Sr. After he received an honorable discharge from the United States Navy where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant (jg.) and was awarded the National Defense Medal Vietnam Conflict, he graduated from the University of Georgia with a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree. While practicing law in Georgia and Tennessee for 35 years, C.P. served as a Trial Lawyer, Administrative Law Judge, Assistant District Attorney, Faculty Member and Assistant Director of the Clinical Program at the University of Georgia Law School and published numerous legal briefs on Constitutional Law. Among his professional accomplishments were being named to Who's Who in American Law, the Board of Directors of the Georgia Association of Law Judges and Hearing Officers and President of the Mental Health Association of North East Georgia, including a life appointment to the President's Advisory Board. His professional memberships included, the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia, the Tennessee State Bar, the United States Supreme Court Bar and the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association., For many years, he played both the trumpet and french horn in the Classic City Band of Athens, Athens, Ga. C.P. also acted in, wrote and directed several amateur theatrical plays and musicals as a member of the Town and Gown Players of the Athens Community Theater. Up until his death, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the Blue Ridge Parkway Association, of which he was on the Board of Directors and served as a voting member of the Virginia Hospitality and Tourism Association (VHTA). While in the Roanoke Valley, C.P. attended both St. Andrews Catholic Church and St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church., He is preceded in death by his brother, James Dolan Brackett. Frances Jeannie Meadows Bradley, 53, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 at her home in Chester. She was born in Smyth County to the late Alexander Francis Meadows and Norma Jean Dennison Meadows. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffery Allen Meadows, and her husband, Don Bradley. She was employed as a grounds keeper at the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond and attended Rock Church. They moved to Alexandria, Virginia, where she lived the remainder of her life, being active in her church and community. She received a commendation for her volunteer work in the community. Lillian Virginia "Jenny" Childers, 82, died on Jan. 29, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born March 7, 1926 in Worth, W.Va., to the late Chester and Carrie Belle Perry. She moved to the Chilhowie area in the 1940s where she met and married her lifelong boyfriend, Edward. She had several jobs, but the one she was most dedicated to was serving the Lord and loving her family whom she cherished. She faithfully attended Macedonia Baptist Church where she was a prayer warrior and a friend to everyone. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Carrie Belle Perry whom she cared for until their passing. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Hall, a nephew, Eugene Hall, and a stillborn infant brother. CORBIN, David Alan, 53, of Jetersville, Va., died peacefully on Sunday, February 1, 2009, in Tucumari, N.M. He was born on September 8, 1955, in Edwards, Calif., to Beverly Brown Wallace of Richmond and the late Raymond Junior Corbin. David was a crane operator for Barnhart Crane and Rigging Company for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, deep sea fishing, and was a member of the Cedar Run Hunt Club. He was a devoted father, loving grandfather, and his kind and generous nature will always be remembered. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, David Matthew Corbin of Culpeper; three grandchildren, McKaylah Lee Brown, Ryleigh Ann Brown, and Hayden Matthew Brown; his siblings, Raymond and his wife, Lea, Edward and his wife, Margaret, James and his wife, Wanda, Ronald, Michael, Steven, Eugene and his wife, Allison, Hank and his wife, Michele; and his only sister, Delilah Stevenson and her husband, John; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends; and the mother of his son, Ann Corbin Foster. DODD, William Eggleston, 88, of Charlotte County, died Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at Appomattox Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Dodd was born May 17, 1920, in Charlotte County, a son of the late Paulina Moore Dodd and Fletcher Banks Dodd. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Myrtle Hodnett Dodd and Shirley Milton Dodd; two brothers, James D. Dodd and R. Wesley Dodd; and a sister, Frances D. North. He proudly served our country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army. He was retired from Greater Lynchburg Transit Company and was a member of Roanoke Presbyterian Church. Eggleston is survived by two brothers, Wilbur A. Dodd and wife, Virginia, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and H. B. Dodd and wife, Jackie, of Cullen, Va.; a sister, Doris D. On January 31, 2009, Lauri Kolb Dodson, of Centreville, Va., beloved wife of Colonel Todd L. Dodson, of Botetourt County, and devoted mother to Kaitlyn E. Dodson, lost her courageous six year battle with cancer. During her school years, Lauri won several North Carolina beauty pageants and won the crown as Miss North Carolina Hemisphere. This lead to a modeling career in New York City, Philadelphia and throughout North Carolina. She followed this by working in the movie industry where she developed her career to the point she moved to Hollywood, Calif., and worked on several movies and TV shows., Lauri met her husband at Wrightsville Beach, N.C. After a short seven mouth courtship, they were wed on December 19, 1992. His military career took her new family to Fort Campbell, Ky., Fort Polk, La., Naval Air Station Key West, Fla., Fort Bragg, N.C., and finally Washington, D.C. Lauri took her role as an Army wife with enthusiasm. She always enjoyed meeting new people and helping other Army families. Her generous heart and compassionate nature made her a friend to everyone that ever knew her. As a devoted mother, Lauri enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her daughter, becoming a stay at home mother., Lauri's faith remained strong in her battle against the terrible disease, inspiring all who knew her. Her favorite Bible verse, Jeremiah 29:11-13, helped to keep her spirits up. Her positive attitude and beautiful smile will be greatly missed. She was gracious and appreciative for everything done for her and her family, just some of the attributes that the cancer could not take from her., Lauri's father, Gerald F. He owned and operated Building and Maintenance Co. of Greensboro for 13 years, worked with Wesley Long Community Hospital with the engineering department for several years, was a driver for Central Motor Lines for 15 years, and went on to retire from Jefferson-Pilot Life Insurance Co., now known as Lincoln Financial Group. DUNN, Dr. Clarence Leo "Buzz," 86, of Richmond, died Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at his home. He was born August 5, 1922 in Allerton, Illinois, the seventh of 12 children of Omer Monroe and Edna Hinton Dunn. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Janet Lessard Dunn; four children, John Roy Dunn of Richmond, Va., Richard Scott Dunn of Baton Rouge, La., Nancy Anne Burns of Austin, Texas, and Jane Marie Wallace of Richmond, Va.; his sister, Marguerite Stevens; two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Jane Yerby Dunn, who died in May 1990. He was a charter member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Baton Rouge from 1956 to 1978 and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Richmond from 1978 until now. He was valedictorian of his graduating class from Allerton High School in 1940. He received three degrees from the University of Illinois in Urbana, including the Doctor of Philosophy in Accountancy in June 1953. As an undergraduate at the U. of I., he was an honor student and a member of Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity, the Quill and Scroll Honorary and The Tribe of Illini. He was a member of the cross country and track teams and was a six-time letter winner in those sports. He was named to the NCAA All American Cross Country Team in 1942. He was a Big-Ten Champion in the outdoor mile and the indoor two mile runs in 1943. He taught briefly at his Alma Mater, followed by 26 years as a professor at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he served four years as Head of the Accounting Department, four years as Associate Dean of the College of Business Administration, and two years as Assistant Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. Dr. Dunn retired from LSU in May 1978 and then taught at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond for 10 years as Professor of Accounting before retiring in May 1987. He was Professor Emeritus at both LSU and VCU. Dr. Dunn became a Certified Public Accountant in August 1955 and was a longtime member of the Society of Louisiana CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. He authored several articles in professional journals and was the co-author of an accounting textbook and an accounting problems manual. He was active in several accounting organizations, especially the National Association of Accountants, of which he served one year as President of the Baton Rouge Chapter and the American Accounting Association, of which he was an Academic Vice President in 1966. At his death, Dr. Dunn was an Emeritus Member of the Society of Louisiana CPAs and the American Accounting Association. He served in the United States Army from June 1943 to April 1946, first in the Field Artillery and then after June 1944 in the Infantry, with the last 16 months as a Lieutenant in Company G, 12th Infantry Regiment, Fourth Division. He was awarded a Bronze Star for bravery in action in Germany. After the E.T.O. War ended and the Fourth Division was transferred to Camp Butner, N.C. (near Durham), he was Company Commander of G Company until returning to civilian life in April 1946 to complete his B.S. degree, received in June 1947. Dr. Dunn and his family traveled extensively to nearly all parts of the world and especially in Europe and the United States as well as Japan, China, India, Southeast Asia, Iceland and South America. The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Rd., where a prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Dr. Dunn's remains will then be sent to Baton Rouge, La., where he will be interred in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Mary Genevieve Huffard Hamilton, 101, of Wytheville died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel. Enola A. Harrington, 85, of Aberdeen, Md., died on Jan. 27, 2009 at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace, Md. Born in Troutdale, she was the daughter of the late Charles Monroe and Letty Esther Dunnavant Harrington. She had worked for Wilmington Medical Center as a medical records technician. An avid reader of the Bible, she had been a long-time member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, as well as the Open Arms Bible Study at the church. She enjoyed taking care of her flowers, and living independently for many years. Survivors include a brother, Donald Harrington of Sugar Grove; and nieces and nephews. Floyd Roosevelt Hayes, lovingly known as Dick, was born Aug. 31, 1926, to Marie Tucker Hayes and the late Morris Hayes Jr. in Church Road, Va. Dick graduated from Dinwiddie County Public Training School in 1944 and served in the United States Marine Corps in World War II. Dick married Rozelia O. Gilliam on Aug. 6, 1947, in Petersburg, Va. Dick and Rozelia lived in Bradford, Pa., for 10 years and in 1956 relocated to Baltimore. Dick and Rozelia had four beautiful children, Doris, Phyllis, Stephanie and Kenneth. Dick worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years, retiring as supervisor. Dick maintained his membership with Mt. Poole Baptist Church of Ford, Va., from childhood. He was also a member of Light of the (Mason) West Lodge, the American Legion Post 213, NAACP and a supporter of the National Association of Police Organizations, as well as the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and Concerns of Police Survivors. Dick enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially fishing with his nephews. He had an avid interest in word puzzles and fixing things. He also loved to travel with friends to gambling casinos up and down the eastern shores. Dick loved life and didn't let anything stop him from enjoying all that it had to offer. He had his leg amputated and kept going; had abdominal surgery and kept going, and triple bypass heart surgery and still kept going. Dick had many reasons to slow down; instead he continued to visit Rozelia every day, drive to Virginia to visit his mother, and happily shuttle friends around town in Baltimore. Dick leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Rozelia O. Hayes; his three daughters, Doris E. Coleman (Donald), Phyllis A. Hayes, both of Baltimore, Stephanie H. Douglas (Anthony) of Everett, Wash.; son, Kenneth F. Hayes (Roxanne) of Baltimore; his mother, Marie T. Hayes of Petersburg, Va.; a devoted sister, Bernice H. Johnson of Richmond, Va.; and a devoted brother, Beamon P. Hayes (Clarissa) of Petersburg, Va.; four grandchildren, Lisa Coleman, Shaunte Hooper, Rochelle Hayes and Ivy Douglas; four great-grandchildren, Latoya Burrell, Brittany Burrell, Jaden Hooper and Isaiah Hyde; as well as a great-great-grandson, Dayshawn Clark; in addition to a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends, especially his neighbors. A homegoing service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at the Mount Poole Baptist Church, Ford, with the pastor, the Rev. Stephen Pugh, officiating, and the Rev. Charlie M. Jones PORTSMOUTH - Charlie M. Jones, 81, went to be with his heavenly Father Feb. 2, 2009, in Chesapeake Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Sept. 7, 1927, to the late Charlie and Willie Johnson Jones. He retired from Yorktown Naval Weapons Station. After his retirement, he was employed with the Portsmouth school system. He was a faithful member of Noble Street Baptist Church until his health failed. He served in many ministries at the church. He was a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University. He was a member of the Tidewater chapter of N.C. A&T State University Alumni Association where he loved and served faithfully. Left to cherish his memory are three sisters, Willema C. Jones of Portsmouth, Viola Scott and Beatrice A. Jones of Enfield, N.C.; and one brother, William Alston of Long Island, N.Y.; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. KENNEDY, Max C., 79, passed away January 23, 2009. He was born August 24, 1929 in Charlottesville, Virginia. He attended local schools including the University of Virginia and the University of Virginia Law School. Mr. Kennedy spent two years in military service for his country during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he joined Sperry Marine Corporation in 1956, ultimately serving as general counsel until his retirement in 1993. Mr. Kennedy also provided legal services to his friends. Mr. Kennedy was preceded in death by his parents, Rushie L. and George C. Kennedy; and his wife, Patricia Barber Kennedy. As a young man he was a member of the Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Mr. Kennedy was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, the Virginia State Bar, Charlottesville-Albemarle Bar Association, past chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals for Albemarle County, a lifetime member of the University of Virginia Alumni Association, a lifetime member of the Elks Club and a member of Farmington Country Club. He was an accomplished golfer and one of Max's favorite pastimes was playing golf with his friends. Left to cherish his memory are Nancy Dettor, Col. L. C. Sgt. Johnny Earl Morphew Jr., 48, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009. He was a sergeant with the Bristol Fire Department for five years and a member of the force for 16 years. He was also a member of the Bristol Life Saving Crew as well as a member of the Chilhowie Fire Department for 17 years. His love of the bagpipes led him to become a member of the Appalachian Highlanders. He was also very proud member of Wellmont One. He had many accomplishments in the EMS field being most proud of his Critical Care Flight Paramedic Certification; he is only one of one thousand worldwide. He was an instructor for The Virginia Office of EMS and Virginia Department of Fire Programs. He had many more certifications in the EMS field, too numerous to list. He loved many things including hiking, camping, playing the bagpipes, and teaching. Out of everything in his life, he had the most love for his wife and daughter. Earnest Floyd Mutter, 83, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 at his home. He was the son of the late Arch G. and Lillie Mae Mutter. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Edward Mutter, and a sister, Marie Mutter. He was a member of Lindell Church of Christ, was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in WWII and was a retired employee of U.S. Gypsum Co. of Saltville with 39 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed doing carpentry and blacksmith work. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Edna Mutter; three sons, Floyd W. Mutter and wife, Carol, of Abingdon, Graham Mutter and Judy of Saltville, Alan Mutter and wife, Helen, of Glade Spring; four daughters, Judy Mutter-Smack and husband, Jack, of Huntingtown, Md., Ruby Gay Shrum and husband, Jim, of Roanoke, Nancy Grace and husband, Raymon, of Saltville, Lisa Browning and husband, David, of Glade Spring; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one uncle; sister, Beulah Taylor of Saltville; and several nieces and nephews. Nancy S. Northam ONANCOCK - Mrs. Nancy Shearer Northam, 84, wife of Judge Wescott B. Northam and a resident of Onancock, passed away at her residence Feb. 3, 2009. Born Dec. 12, 1924, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Joseph P. Shearer and O'Neill Byrd Shearer. Mrs. Northam was a member of St. Alban's Church in Washington, graduated from the Woodrow Wilson High School, Randolph Macon Women's College and the Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at National Institutes of Health (NIH) for four years as a registered nurse, and worked part time at the Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital for 24 years. Her community activities included being a member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Onancock, where she served on and was former chairwoman of the altar guild. She was a member of the Episcopal Church Women, the RMWC Eastern Shore Alumnae Chapter, and the RSVP reading program at Accawmacke Elementary School. She was a former member of the NAM Hospital Auxiliary and a former Hospice home care coordinator. Other than her husband of 52 years, survivors include two sons, Thomas L. Northam and wife Billie and Dr. Ralph S. Northam and wife Pam; three grandchildren, Weston Northam, Aubrey Northam and Travis Northam; a stepgranddaughter, Kathleen Kraft; a brother, Joseph Shearer and his wife Ann; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Byrd Echeverria. The funeral will be conducted from the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Onancock Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. R.J. Johnson officiating. Mrs. Marian Roberts Perkins, of 200 Weaver, Emporia, Va., formerly of Petersburg, passed away Saturday night, Jan. 31, 2009, at Emporia Manor Adult Living after a lengthy period of illness. She was born June 27, 1922, the daughter of the late Frank Roberts and Mary Wiggins Roberts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Perkins Sr., and son, Joseph E. Perkins Jr. She attended Tabernacle Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va. She retired from Central State Hospital many years ago. She leaves to cherish her memories her three granddaughters, Cherisse and Diketia White, all of Petersburg, Va., and Latoya C. Perkins of Burlington, N.C.; two grandsons, Joseph E. III and Ahmed S. Louis G. Reiser SAVANNAH, Ga. - Louis G. "Jerry" Reiser, 78, died Feb. 4, 2009, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., May 22, 1930, he was the son of the late Cecelia and Louis G. Reiser Sr. He married Rose Marie Becker in Buffalo on June 6, 1953. Jerry was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany from 1953 to 1955. An avid sports enthusiast, Jerry coached Little League baseball for his sons' teams as well as others. He was a member of the Landings Golf Club for more than 30 years. Jerry worked for 47 years with Continental Grain, serving in Buffalo, Toledo, Ohio, Columbus, Ohio, Norfolk and Savannah He retired in 1997 when the facility in Savannah closed. He was also a member and officer of the Grain Exchange. Jerry was a member of St. James Catholic Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Reiser; his sister, Elizabeth Ann Murray; and his son, Michael Reiser. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Rose M. Reiser; his son, Daniel Reiser, both of Savannah; a daughter-in-law, M. Shawn Reiser of Winchester, Va.; granddaughter, Sarah Reiser of Texas; grandson, Patrick Reiser of Winchester; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Deshawn L. Stephenson NORFOLK - Deshawn L. Stephenson, 30, passed away Jan. 31, 2009. He was born Oct. 21, 1978, in Norfolk and worked as a merchant seaman. He was predeceased by a sister, Paula Hill. He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Lolita J. Ingram; two sons, Cevaar R. Stephenson and William J. Ingram; his mother, Beulah M. Robert Clayton "Bud" Sturgill, 71, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009 at Hospice House in Bristol, Tenn. He was born in Saltville to the late Barney and Myrtle Sword Sturgill and was preceded in death by his wife, Omega Sturgill, and two sisters, Dorothy and Louise Hess. He was retired from Smyth County with over 25 years of service and was a member of the Seven Mile Ford Presbyterian Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a loving father, grandfather and will be remembered as Papaw Bud by several extended family members and children of the community. He was an active committee member of the High Mountain Long Beards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation where he was currently serving as treasurer. He had previously served as district director of the NWTF for the state of Virginia and was a founding member of the Jakes Event, a program created to introduce children to the outdoors. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Terry Meador and husband, Barry, of Chilhowie; grandson, Ryan Meador and wife, Megan, of Abingdon; two brothers, Junior Sturgill of Chilhowie and Tom Sturgill of Saltville; special friends, Della Duncan, Ronnie "Moe" Williams, Tim Pritchard, special friend whom he considered a daughter, Regenia Hayden and husband, Eddie, and their sons, Tyler, Conner, Jason and his wife, Katie, and their daughter, Kylie; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at Bradley's Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie with the Rev. Robert Thornton officiating. Entombment will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Our great God of the universe dispatched His angel to receive from Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va., Mother Bessie Walker Turner on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009. She was born Nov. 19, 1911, to the late Thomas and Mamie Walker Jones. A lifelong resident of the Blandford community in Petersburg, Va., she was the widow of the late John Wesley Turner, mother of the late Margaret Turner Nicholson and Thomas Turner. Mother Turner was a faithful member of Bethesda Bibleway Church, where she served loyally for many years as president of Senior/Social Missionary Department, member of Inspirational Choir, prayer warrior, altar worker, Sunday School and Bible study scholar. She also served as Foster Grandmother, volunteered with Downtown Churches United and was a member of the Crater District on Aging Agency. Mother Turner retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corp. after 42 years of service. TYE, Alan Richard Sr., died on January 29, 2009 at Henrico Doctors' Hospital. Alan was born on March 26, 1933 in Richmond, Virginia, the son of the late Earl and Ruth Willard Tye. After graduating from John Marshall High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and graduated from RPI. He was the loving husband of Patricia Davis Douglas Tye for 34 years; and was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Featherston Tye, the mother of his two children, Alan Richard "Dickie" Tye Jr. and Anne Marie Brice. He and his wife, Pat, had a successful manufacturing representative business in Maryland for many years, retiring to Williamsburg, Va., in 1996. He was an active member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church choir and golfing community. Alan enjoyed the camaraderie of golfing and weekly lunches at Red, Hot and Blue with the Williamsburg lunch bunch. In Richmond, Alan attended the annual Billy Wingfield Luncheon and the Churchill Reunion. In addition to his wife and children, survivors include his brothers, John and Robert Tye; three stepsons, Keith, Lynn and Mark Douglas; nine grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Little Miss Dynastie Unique Washington was granted her angel wings on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Dynastie had touched in some small way throughout her memorable life. Dynastie was born Feb. 12, 2007, to Angel K. Dynastie's life would seem too short to many but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Frances C. Weirich VIRGINIA BEACH - Frances Carmack Weirich was in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital when she went to be with the Lord Feb. 3, 2009. She was surrounded by family. She was 84. She was born in Birmingham, Ala., to the late Posie and Louise Carmack Dec. 12, 1924. She attended Alabama College for Women in Birmingham. She met her husband of more than 50 years at an Alabama football game. The Navy brought the couple to Virginia Beach in the late 50s and that became their home. She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church for more than 50 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed being with family and friends. She was one of the founders of the "Tuesday Bridge Club" where she was a member for 44 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ernest Weirich and son, Wayne Ernest Weirich formerly of Richmond. She is survived by Wayne's wife, Linda; sons, Michael James and wife Martha and Dwight Samuel and wife Cynthia, all of Virginia Beach and Stephen Paul of Livingston, Texas. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jimmy and wife Keri, Marianne, Susan, Caroline, Kimberly, Bryan and Mark; and a great-granddaughter, Taylor. A celebration of her life will be held at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Virginia Beach Saturday at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Princess Anne Memorial Park with a reception following at the church. Edward Earl "Eddie" Whitely, 63, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009 at his home in Marion. He was a member of the McCready United Methodist Church, and the Local 669 National Automatic Sprinkler Union. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. WILLIAMS, Andrew "Roscoe" Walter, 38, of Richmond, died February 2, 2009. Andy was preceded in death by his grandma, Ruth K. Ragland; grandpa, Samuel P. Ragland; and uncle, Samuel R. Ragland. Roscoe is survived by his wife, Lisa; mother and father, Patricia and Wayne Sr; brothers, Wayne Jr. and his wife, Sharon, and Tony and his wife, Suzanne; nieces, Ashley and Bayleigh; and nephew, Michael. He is also survived by his grandparents, Charles and Ray; his aunt, Caroline; uncle, Keith; and cousins, Emily and Stephen and his wife, Rachael. Roscoe's passions included not only his friends and family, but deer and turkey hunting, playing softball and riding Harleys. As a member of the Wachsmann Hunt Club in Sussex County, he was known as "Bladeslinger," where he brought joy and memories to the club for 26 years. He was as equally dedicated and entertaining to the world of softball in Chesterfield County. Playing for many teams over the years, "Roscoe" left his mark. There were few, if any, who did not know who he was wherever he went. Roscoe always had a smile, a hug, a nickname, or a story for those who crossed his path. Words cannot express the extensive network of friends he had. Everyone had a special place not only in their hearts for Roscoe, but he as equally for them. Roscoe's answer to life was a ride on a motorcycle. He has shared many rides, but his riding family remains to be "The Screaming Brothers." Roscoe's memory will live on, live long, and live strong. We will all miss you brother!
