Robert Alvin "Bookie" Belcher, 81, of Petersburg, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2009, at MCV Hospital in Richmond. He was the son of the late Robert Wesley Belcher and Bessie Lavenstein Belcher. He was a member of the Cavalier Athletic Club, Warwick Hunt Club, the Dixie Bowman Archery Club, Dinwiddie Diamonds, Golden Olympians, and was a Hall of Fame USSSA umpire. He retired from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. after 39 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Harvanek Belcher; daughter, Patti Belcher Williams and her fiancé, Thomas Edwards; son Robert Wesley Belcher and his wife, Julie Adams Belcher; grandchildren, Andrew Griffith Williams and his wife, Agnes, Mark Wesley Belcher, and Adam Joseph Belcher; great-grandchildren, Drew Williams and James Williams; sisters, Rita Fowler and Donna Belcher; brothers, Larry Belcher and Monty Belcher; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2009. DeBoer, James W.

James William "Jim" DeBoer, 63, of Colonial Heights, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Laurels of Willow Creek, Midlothian, Va. A native of Michigan, Mr. DeBoer is the son of Jay J. DeBoer and the late Joyce Marie Pastoor DeBoer, and was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Moore DeBoer. He was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church, where he served the church in various capacities, to include deacon, Sunday school teacher, Finance Committee chairman and Mid-Range Planning Committee chairman. Mr. DeBoer also had a long and successful legal career. After receiving a bachelor's degree at Virginia Commonwealth University, he received his juris doctor degree from William and Mary Law School. He was admitted to practice in 1971 and further admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States in 1974. He was principal in the law firm of Elliot, DeBoer & Hauler from 1971 to 1986, when he left to conduct his own private law practice in Chesterfield County until 1993. From 1993 to 2009, he served as vice president and regional counsel for First American Title Insurance Co. Mr. DeBoer was a member of the Virginia State Bar Association, American Bar Association, and former member of the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Bar Association. He was also a certified instructor for the Virginia Real Estate Board and both Virginia Bureau of Insurance and the Maryland Insurance Continuing Education programs. Mr. DeBoer is survived by his sons, Jeffrey DeBoer and Steven DeBoer of Colonial Heights; daughter, Elizabeth D. Dillard and husband, Brian, of Colonial Heights; granddaughters, Abby DeBoer and Lauren DeBoer; and two brothers, Joe DeBoer and wife, Janie, of Colonial Heights, and Jon DeBoer and wife, Natalie, of Richmond. A funeral service will take place 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Swift Creek Baptist Church, 18510 Branders Bridge Road, Colonial Height,s with the Rev. Dr. Steve Felker officiating. Alice retired from Petersburg Motor Co. and was a devoted member of Covenant Presbyterian Church for many years. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by granddaughter, Lisa Hatchett Mullins and husband, Chris; great-grandsons, Matthew Mullins and Samuel Mullins; and many loving nieces, and nephews. with the Navy, Lee attended The College of William and Mary, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He was employed by the Department of Defense at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a chemist for the remainder of his career, retiring at the age of 55. Lee was preceded in death by his mother, Hattie Poole Wilson and his father, Milton L. Wilson in 1969. He had a great love of classical music, old movies, computers, plants and his home at Nixon's Beach, N.C. Those mourning his passing include Dr. James E. Steele, Shirley Parker, Jim Jennings, Nellie Cox, Jean Kane, Terry and Margie Fager, Jesse Fager, Kathryn and Larry Hedgepeth, Smitty and Cathy Whitaker, Joe, Jill, Joseph, Jenny and Tristan Anderson, Dorothy Conklin and George H., his computer guru. Leatha Wooton ELIZABETH CITY - Leatha Wooton, loving mother, supportive sister, considerate friend, and faithful wife, left us Friday, July 10, 2009, following a brief illness. Leatha was born in Lowland, N.C., in 1933 to the late Ollie and Jonah Lewis. Happily married to Frank Holcombe for the past 15 months, Leatha was formerly the wife of the late Harold L. Wooton for 48 years. Leatha and Harold resided in Yorktown, Norfolk, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba before settling in Elizabeth City off Main Street Extended, where they successfully raised five children. Leatha selflessly inspired confidence in her children, shared in their joys, consoled in their sorrows, and glorified God by the life she lived. Although family was foremost in her life, Leatha also had a fulfilling career as business manager at Guardian Care Nursing Home for 22 years and later as secretary of City Road United Methodist Church. Mourning her unexpected departure are her children, Larry Lewis Wooton and wife Pam, Barbara Wooton Wilson and husband Mack, Jamie Harold Wooton and wife Barbie, Linda Wooton Cramer and husband Stevens, Marcus Ray Wooton and wife Cathy, and Frank Holcombe Jr. and wife Kay; grandchildren, Ginger and husband Roy, Andrea, Ryan, Amanda, Patrick, Jaxon, Hartley, Jeremy, Taylor and Little Jamie; a great-granddaughter, Alexis; two sisters, Doris Riddle and husband Ashby and Derlie James and husband Bob; two brothers, Marcus Lewis and wife Rose and Juston Lewis and wife Roxana; and numerous other family members and friends. Along with her parents and her first husband, Leatha was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua, and her sister, Mae Scheier and husband Doc. All who wish to pay respects are invited to join her family from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St. A celebration of Leatha's happy life will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at City Road United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
