Agnes Kirby Houchens, 88, of Charlottesville, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital., She was born January 27, 1921, in Fluvanna County, to the late Micajah W. Kirby and Lula F. Kirby., Agnes was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Rea G. Houchens; and four brothers., Mrs. Houchens was the first President of the Doe Club of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 389; a 51 year member and Past Matron of Queen Esther Chapter No. 14, Order of the Eastern Star; a 50 year Member and Past Worthy High Priestess of Old Dominion Shrine #2, White Shrine of Jerusalem, and Past Royal Matron of the Blue Ridge Court No. 8, Order of the Amaranth., She is survived by a daughter, Linda H. SUFFOLK - Alma Pearl Richardson Kinsey, 82, of Suffolk, Va., passed away on Nov. 10, 2009., A native of Smithfield, Va., she was the daughter of the late Vernon S. Richardson and Alma Pearl Stevens. She was also preceded in death by her husband Edward 'Eddie' John Kinsey Sr.; and her son, David Arthur Kinsey., Pearl retired after a career as a Legal Secretary for the Suffolk Commonwealth Attorney's office. She was a lifelong member of Suffolk Christian Church., She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Edward John Kinsey Jr. (Ginnie) of Suffolk, and Dr. Robert Henry Kinsey IV (Deanne) of Danville, Pa.; and six grandchildren; and her brother and sister-in-law, George S. Amber Elizabeth "Tudie" Thomsen Amber Elizabeth "Tudie" Thomsen, 15, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Niswonger Children's Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Thursday, June 16, 1994, in Abingdon, Va. Amber was a lifelong resident of Bristol. She was a student at Tennessee High School and attended Euclid Avenue Baptist Church. She was active in Awana Clubs, Euclid Avenue Youth Group and AANR East Youth Group. She enjoyed playing with her pets, basketball, and floating in a special creek but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her little sister and family. She also enjoyed artwork and she loved to play Wii. She is survived by her parents, Tim and Laura Thomsen; sisters, Brooke Thomsen and Christina Hampton and husband Justin; niece, Bentley Hampton; nephews, Parker and Preston Hampton; special cousin, Charlene Harman and husband Danny; and several aunts and uncles. Ashbacher, Vivian

, concentrated primarily at the Virginia Tech Research Station Trial Garden. She was also an avid home gardener who practiced organic gardening for more than 40 years. She was a longtime member and past president of the Lake Smith Terrace Garden Club. Vivian's other interests included stitchery, specializing in samplers, for which she received numerous awards. She served as treasurer of the Tidewater Sampler Guild for many years and also worked as a volunteer at the Sentara Bayside Hospital gift shop. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and delighted in nature, watching new plants grow, gazing out on the lake behind her home, walking woodland trails, and feeding wildlife. Vivian is survived by her husband of 63 years, Raymond W. Ashbacher; two daughters, M. Beth Curtis and her husband Robert of Lemont, Ill., and Lynn A. Teufel and her husband Robert of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, Rebecca B. Gomez, Kristen L. Teufel and Adam R. Teufel; and a brother, Carrol G. Polodna of Prairie du Chien, Wis. WILLIAMS, Audrey Marshall Johnston, 82, died November 10, 2009. She was the widow of Robert K. Williams. Born on May 2, 1927, daughter of the late A. P. and Bessie Pennington Johnston, she was a homemaker and a faithful member of Guinea Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her son, Doug Williams and wife, Doris, of Charlotte Court House; granddaughter, Bethany Chambers and husband, Chet; great-grandson, Luke Chambers; brothers, Rev. John W. Walter Becker CHESAPEAKE - Walter H. Becker, 93, passed away Nov. 10, 2009, in Deep Creek Manor. A native of Niagara Falls, N.Y., he was the son of the late Louis and Elma Becker. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Marion Eleanor Becker. He was a Coast Guard officer, and following retirement, founded his own real estate company. He was a 50-year member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Portsmouth and belonged to a number of fraternal organizations including the Deep Creek Ruritan Club. A World War II veteran, he was a lifelong outdoorsman and was truly a friend to many. His compassionate nature extended to his business relations. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra L. Becker of Chesapeake; his son, Wayne and daughter-in-law Jeannie of Moorestown, N.J.; six grandchildren, Matthew of Detroit, Aaron of Hanoi, Vietnam, Cheryl of North Carolina, Tanya of Seattle, Anna of Arlington and Andrew of New Jersey; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Layla and Thea; and a sister, Verna. Boyd Millsap

Boyd David Millsap ABINGDON, Va. Boyd David Millsap, age 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 12, 2009, surrounded by his loving and caring family at his home, after a valiant battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Born July 8, 1927, in Washington County, Va., he was the son of the late Lushion N. Donally Millsap and Mamie Alice Allen Lethcoe. Boyd was eighth of eleven children. Boyd attended Bethel High School and entered military service in the U.S. Army. He served his tour of duty in Germany and France from August 1945 to May 1947. After returning from service to his country, he attended Washington County Trade School. Boyd began his career with Piggly Wiggly in Abingdon and some three years later began working for Sperry Farragut in Bristol as a machinist. After working three years for Sperry Farragut, he went to work for Raytheon Manufacturing in Bristol as a machinist. During his time with Raytheon, Boyd assisted with manufacturing missile parts for the Aero Space program which launched the first monkey into outer space. Boyd returned to Sperry in 1957 which years later became Univac. Boyd retired in 1986 from Univac after 33 years of service. Boyd met and fell in love with Audrey Jeanette Phelps and they were married in April 1954. Boyd and Jeanette have two children, David and Diane. Boyd enjoyed his career as a machinist, but he always had a passion for farming. Growing up on a farm in Washington County, he purchased a farm in 1967 which gave him peace and many years of enjoyment and pride. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, and all his brothers and sisters except for one brother, Bruce G. Millsap of Abingdon. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Audrey Jeanette Millsap; one son, David and his wife Mary and granddaughter, Traci Michelle who became the inspiration of his life; his care giving and loving daughter, Diane Thomas and husband Ike, all of Abingdon. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Edsel Phelps; and sisters-in-law, Nora Millsap and Delephine Sternaman; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Pat Jennings and Tim Pickle; and fury friend, Jack. Boyd was a member of the Harry Denton Sunday School Class of the Abingdon Baptist Church where he spent many years as a Sunday school greeter. He was a member of the VFW Patton Crosswhite Post 6975 and a member of the Abingdon Masonic Lodge o. 48 A.F. & A.M. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary of the Abingdon Baptist Church, with Dr. Steven Pollard and Minister Bill Haywood officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, Masonic Garden in Abingdon. Active pallbearers are Freddie Dye, Tim Pickle, Cecil Tabor, John Thomas, Jason Thomas and Willard Doss. BARRETT, Cladyne Cottrell, age 88, of Kents Store, Va., passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2009. She was born in Colorado City, Texas and was the daughter of the late Clay Rex Cottrell and Opal Robertson Cottrell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Barrett Sr. MSGT USAF (Ret.) of Williamsburg; three brothers, Billy Rex Cottrell CWO-4 USN (Ret.) of Kents Store, Monte B. Cottrell GM 2/C USN (Ret.) of El Cajon, Calif., Donald H. Cottrell of Midland, Texas; three sisters, Ruth M. Cottrell of Iowa Park Texas, Hazel C. Geissler of Kents Store and Marianne C. Epps of Richmond; one granddaughter, Meredith A. McLeod of Winston-Salem N.C.; son-in-law, Harold K. Richardson of Kents Store. Cladyne and her husband J.C., who served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, were stationed at many bases across the United States. During WWII, she worked at Lockheed Aircraft in California and during the Korean War, while J.C. was in Japan, she worked as the bookkeeper at Sears in Charlottesville. While stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas, she and J.C. taught Bridge and ran the Duplicate Bridge Club. She loved her family, cooking, gardening, reading and Bridge, in that order. When her health declined, she played computer Bridge with others from all around the world, maintaining the highest level possible. Cladyne is survived by three daughters, Bobette B. Richardson of Kents Store, Monte B. "Betsy" Travis (Ted) of Gum Spring, Kay B. McLeod (Conrad) of Weaverville, N.C.; three sons, Barry D. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Geissler of Kents Store and Marianne C. Epps of Richmond; one granddaughter, Meredith A. McLeod of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and a son-in-law, Harold K. Richardson of Kents Store., Cladyne and her husband, J.C., who served 21 years in the United States Air Force, were stationed at many bases across the United States. During World War II, she worked at Lockheed Aircraft in California and during the Korean War, while J.C. was in Japan, she worked as the bookkeeper at Sears in Charlottesville. While stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas, she and J.C. taught bridge and ran the Duplicate Bridge Club. She loved her family, cooking, gardening, reading and bridge, in that order. When her health declined she played computer bridge with others from all around the world, maintaining the highest level possible., Cladyne is survived by three daughters, Bobette B. JACKSON, Clarence "Clint" Bernard III, was taken away from us suddenly on November 7, 2009. Clint was born July 12, 1984. Albert Kyle Earnest VIRGINIA BEACH - Retired U.S. Naval Capt. Albert "Bert" Kyle Earnest, 92, of Atlantic Shores, passed away Oct. 27, 2009, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. He was born April 1, 1917 in Richmond, Va., and was the son of the late James Gifford Earnest and Jessie Mullan Earnest of Richmond Virginia. Preceded in death by his wife, Mildred McConnell Earnest, he is survived by daughter, Kathryn Lynn Earnest, of Alexandria, Va., son, William Kyle Earnest and his wife Janet Murray Earnest of Virginia Beach and their children, Laura Ellen Earnest of San Francisco, Jessie Carolyn Earnest and Matthew Kyle Earnest of Virginia Beach. He attended Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1938, graduating with a B.S. in civil engineering and commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant, Field Artillery, U.S. Army Reserve. He worked as assistant engineer of the VA Fire Insurance Rating Bureau until February 1942. After resigning his Army Reserve commission, he was commissioned in the US. Navy Air Corps Reserve as an ensign. His first fleet assignment was with Torpedo Bomber Squadron 8 (VT-8), reporting days after Pearl Harbor on Dec. 8, 1941. He flew the Grumman TBF-1 in its first combat use in the Battle of Midway and was the only pilot survivor (landbased). He continued serving in VT-8, aboard USS Saratoga (CV-3) on the Guadalcanal landing and the Battle of Eastern Solomons, and then landbased on Guadalcanal. With the decommissioning of VT-8, he was transferred to Fleet Composite Squadron 7. During his 31 years in the U.S. Navy, Capt. Earnest attended Naval Postgraduate School in Annapolis, Md., General Line School, Newport, R.I., and Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Washington, D.C. He commanded VA-14A May 1947-June 1948, ATG-181 at NAS Oceana Aug. 1957 - Sept. 1958, USS Estes (AGC-12) Oct. 1965 - Oct. 1966, and NAS Oceana, Nov. 1966 - Nov. 1968. Additional aviation tours of duty included Tactical Test Division (Aug. 1944 - Apr. 1947) where he was the first U.S. pilot to fly a Japanese Torpedo Bomber "Kate", Air Development Squadron Four (VX-4) and, Flight Test (Sept. 1958 - July 1960) at NATC Patuxent River, Md. He was commissioned as Navy Jet pilot No. 62, flying P-80As, P-59s, and FR-1s. He also serve two tours of duty at Attack Design Branch at BuAer/BuWeps, Washington, D.C. Capt. Earnest rounded out his Naval career, serving as COMSTRIKFLTLANTREPEUR and SACLANTREPEUR in Paris France in the early 60s, Operations Analyst at INSGENLANTFLT, Norfolk, before retiring as Assistant Chief of Staff (Logistics), SACLANT, Norfolk, in 1972. Upon retirement, Bert served as Executive Secretary, Operational Test and Evaluation Study Group, Cerberonics Inc. for a year, before becoming a real estate salesman and broker for Professional Realty Corp, Virginia Beach, for 10 years. His awards include three Navy Crosses, two Air Medals, and a Purple Heart, two Presidential Unit Citations with one Gold Star, Navy Commendation Medal, American Defense Service Medal, The American Campaign Medal, The Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with seven stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medial, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was a member of the Association of Naval Aviation, Early and Pioneer Naval Aviator's Association "Golden Eagles" and Tailhook Association, Virginia Beach Sports Club, and the Princess Anne Hunt Club. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard H. Banton. She retired from Philip Morris as an inspector at the Stockton Street Plant in 1998 after 30 years of service. At an early age he accepted Christ as his personal savior and joined Mt. Gilead Baptist Church of Williamsburg, Va. As an adult, Ernest joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Charles City, Va., He received his formal education in the public school system of Williamsburg, Va., graduating from the Bruton Heights High School. Right after graduating high school, Ernest joined the United States Marine Corps and served our country faithfully until he completed his service., In 1971, Ernest joined the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. For the next 37 years he devoted his time and meritorious service to the Foundation. He received awards, citations, and in 1996 he was the recipient of the 'Silver Bowl', representative of 25 years of dedicated service. In 2008, Ernest retired as an employee of the Williamsburg Foundation., On May 30, 1985, Mr. Wallace was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Marion Graham of Charles City, Va., Ernest was a very active family man, cherishing his wife, children, and especially those grandkids and great-grands! Apart for spending time with family and fond friends, he loved to play golf! Roman Faulkner NORFOLK - Roman Faulkner, 91, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009. A native of Portsmouth, he was the son of the late James Anthony Faulkner and Harriet Faulkner. He was the widower of Annie V. Faulkner. He is survived by his two daughters, Caladia A. Faulkner and Velda R. Faulkner; three granddaughters, Shameka L. de Venoge, Harry Christopher, age 84, died peacefully at his home in New Smyrna Beach Florida on November 12, 2009. Mr. de Venoge was born in Corona, N.Y. and served in the Navy during WWII. After the war, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Fordham University and a law degree from New York University. He married Laura Anne Detwiller of Rockaway, N.Y., with whom he raised nine children. Mr. de Venoge began his career as a civil servant working as a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, later the Department of State, and finally the Department of Commerce where he served as the Director, Office of Investigations and Security. At full retirement, Mr. de Venoge volunteered as a child advocate for abused and neglected children, working for the State of Florida's Guardian Ad Litem program. Mr. de Venoge was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Joseph de Venoge and Agnes Heffernan; his brother, Vincent de Venoge; and sister, Josephine Bull. He leaves behind his wife; nine children, Francine de Venoge, Ann Yohe, Harry de Venoge, Vincent de Venoge, Thomas de Venoge, Francis (Frank) Xavier de Venoge, Laura Ronis, Nicole de Venoge, Mimi Pohl; and 23 grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m., Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in New Smyrna Beach on November 18, 2009. The burial will be private. She is survived by two sisters, Shirley S. Yancey (Thomas E.) and Mary S. Burton; one brother, Eddie C. Sheffield Jr. (Laura A.); and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Beverly Dare West; and a sister, Jacqueline S. Garrett. An enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Virginia Intermont College, Bristol Virginia. Upon her marriage, she began work for the Bristol Regional Counseling Center, Bristol Tennessee. She is survived by her four sons, Adam Page, Bristol Virginia, Dustin Page, Jeremy Page and Zack Canter, all of Bristol Tennessee; her mother, Rosemond Goins, and step- father, Lofthis Goins; her aunt, Sharon Brave; two sisters, Linda Frazier and Michelle Tangimana, all of Rapid City; four grandchildren, Taylor, Kalista, Sarah and Emily Page, Bristol; nieces, Melina and Janaiya Moore; nephews, Daniel and Duane Moore, all of Rapid City. She was a great-aunt to seven nieces and nephews. Susie was relative to many and friend to most. John and Viola are survived by son, John Jr., married to Carol, and grandchildren, Amy and Sean; daughter, Marcie, and grandchildren, Tracy and Kelly; and son, Scott with wife, Teresa, and grandchildren, Amanda, Rebecca and Jessica; and great-grandchildren, Niveik and Trinity., John was born in Clarksburg, W.Va., and worked as a milkman, truck driver, and auto salesman prior to setting up a concrete construction company in Louisville., John was drafted for military service for WWII serving in Europe and North Africa, then called back for the Berlin Crisis, and again for the war in Korea where he served for a year. John got the message and stayed in the Army Transportation Corps, serving in Japan, France, and Taiwan, and retiring at Fort Eustis as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1966., Following 12 years in the civil service at Fort Eustis and Fort Lee, John established Prestige Limousine and Carefree Tours serving the Hampton Roads community from 1978-2003. He was a supporter of numerous Peninsula charities and a loyal 35-year member of the Benevolent Order of the Elks Post 315 in Denbigh., The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel. John Fisher Wright

John Fisher Wright, John Fisher Wright, 94, of Charlottesville, died on Monday November 9, 2009, at a local care facility., John was born in Madison, Wisconsin, on April 12, 1915, the only son of William Harmon Wright and Edna Fisher Wright. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Smith Wright, in 1985; and by his second wife, Elizabeth Landis Cullen Wright, in 2009. He was also preceded in death by his only sister, Mrs. Alice Wright Gee of Lexington, Kentucky, in 2003., He is survived by his only son, William Harmon Wright, daughter-in-law, Joleen Laffin Wright, and granddaughter, Mary Allison Wright of La Quinta, California; by his stepsons, Richard L. Cullen, Frederick L. Cullen, Robert L. Cullen, and Edward B. Cullen, and by their wives and children., John was graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Chemical Engineering in 1936 and spent his career with Exxon where he started in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He worked most of his career in New Jersey and New York City, but he also spent 12 years abroad - in Paris, France, Genoa and Rome, Italy, Abadan, Iran, and Brussells, Belgium. He came to Charlottesville in 1972 to retire and was active in the Olivet Presbyterian Church, Farmington Country Club, University of Virginia's Miller Center, the Thomas Jefferson Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Beacon Club, the Oliver Turner Society, and the Albemarle County Electoral Board (of which he served as Chairman.) John was an enthusiastic supporter of University of Virginia athletics., Private family services will be held at a later date.

John Thomas

John Leslie Thomas FREDERICK, Md. John Leslie Thomas, 91, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born May 14, 1918, in Bristol Tennessee, where he was raised, he was the son of the late Inez Thomas Parker and the grandson of a late Cherokee Indian whom came off the reservation and gave himself the name of John Robert Thomas. In his earlier years, he worked with his grandfather with freight and moving people. He was in the Army in 1943. He received an honorable medical discharge. Mr. Thomas was then a cab driver in Bristol Tennessee and Virginia. He relocated to the Baltimore area in 1952 and had other various jobs there. In 1958, Mr. Thomas went to work for the Baltimore Chapter for the Mentally Retarded as a supervisor until 1966. He then moved to Frederick where he made his home and worked for Jeanne Bussard Training Workshop as a supervisor from 1966 until 1980 when he retired. He had owned and operated his business, Thomas' Janitorial Services, for many years here in the Frederick area until retiring in 2005. Following his retirement, he loved working with his hands, crafting miniature log cabins, which he shared with his family and friends. Surviving are three daughters, Helen Johnson of Bristol Virginia, Linda Inez Hawkins and husband Russ of Berryville, Va., and Mary E. Shepard and husband Donnie of Elizabethton, Tenn.; three sons, Rickey L. Thomas and wife Tammy of Frederick, John R. Thomas and wife Pam of Middletown and Michael E. Thomas and wife Jamie of Piney Flats, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great- grandchildren. He is remembered by his dear, loving friend and companion since 1979, Jo-Ann F. Lee of Frederick and also by Gloria Walters of Frederick, Kelly Giffin of Hagerstown, Sandra Eyler of Gettysburg, Pa., James G. Stickler Jr. of Hagerstown; and many other special people who really enriched his life and he was very thankful for. Mr. Thomas is at the Robert E. OWENS, John Wade, 85, formerly of Bracey and Bon Air, Va., passed peacefully on November 10, 2009. He was a loving husband to his late wife, Jacquelyn Rudd Owens; and wonderful father to Michael, Chris and Scott Owens of Richmond and Heidi Warren of South Hill. John was a graduate of Fork Union Military Academy, a U.S. Navy veteran, and a retired auto-body repair instructor at Highland Springs High School. Juanita "Netia" Meadows Horne HONAKER, Va. Mrs. Juanita "Netia" Meadows Horne, age 88, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at the home of her daughter. Born Feb. 19, 1921, in Clell, Va., she was a daughter of the late Toy and Carrie Jane Hurt Meadows. She had lived most of her life in the Buchanan and Russell County areas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Willard Horne; one brother, Dexter Meadows; and two sisters, Dorothy Hale and Peggy Avis Meadows. A member of the Boy Scouts of America, Keith achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was a member of the Order of the Arrow, Nawakwa Lodge. Most recently he was serving as the Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 116, in Louisville, Ky., Keith was a member of Bibleway Fellowship Church in Newport News, Va. He trusted God and accepted His direction in his life. He never met a stranger, making good friends wherever he went. He also loved a good debate and usually had to have the last word. Keith had recently been selected for employment by the York County Sheriff's Department, upon his upcoming Honorable Discharge from the Marine Corps., Keith was fiercely devoted to his family and sometimes made some tough decisions that he didn't really want to make. Lewis Albert CREASY

CREASY, Lewis Albert, 92, died Monday, November 9, 2009, at his Roanoke home. An employee of the Norfolk and Western Railway for 44 years, Lewis retired in 1979 as assistant to the general manager, Eastern Region. He was a Master Sergeant with the Combat Engineers in the Pacific Theater of World War II, participating in operations on Angaur and Peleliu Islands, and with the occupation troops in Japan. Lewis was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church, and served in many capacities, including chairman of the finance committee and as deacon emeritus. He was a member of American Legion Post #3, and was active in the Beta Tau social fraternity for more than 70 years. Lewis loved to play golf and kept a standing breakfast date with the members of his foursome long after he gave up his clubs. A bowler on N&W teams in his younger years, he was elected to the executive committee and the Hall of Fame of both the Roanoke Bowling Association and the Virginia State Bowling Association. He is now reunited with Dorothy Tate Creasy, to whom he was married for 60 years, as well as his parents, three brothers and three sisters. Surviving him are two daughters, Cynthia B. Creasy, and her husband, Edward J. Spyhalski, of Richmond, and Anne Creasy Dail, and her husband, Lieutenant General (retired) Robert T. Dail, of Leesburg; three granddaughters, Amy Rebecca Dail of Chesapeake, and Elizabeth Tate Dail and Katherine Cherry Dail of Leesburg; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. The family will welcome friends from 12 noon to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 12 at Oakey's South Chapel, 4257 Brambleton Ave. S.W., Roanoke, 24018. The Rev. She was born Jan. 18, 1922, in Middlesboro, Ky., a Lillie Mae Hawks, daughter of the late Bill and Vivian Williams, and has lived the past 18 years in the Bristol area. She was a seamstress for L.C. King, and was retired from Bufflins Woodworking in Tacoma, Wash. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was preceded in death by three sons, Donald R. Hawks, William D. Hawks and James Glenn Hawks. She is survived by: grandsons, Michael D. Hawks and Erik Hawks; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews in the Bristol area; sisters, Beatrice Roe of Texas,and Carolyn Buskirk of North Carolina. DORSEY, Michael E., 83, of Hanover County, formerly of Norfolk, Va., passed away on November 11, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Letha L. Dorsey; children, Linda J. Dorsey, Patricia D. Solari, Margaret D. Kapinos; sons-in-law, Dennis Solari and Stanley Kapinos; six grandchildren, Laura Davis, Michele Basye, Michael Basye (Kim), Chris Hofstede (Dana), Stephen Kapinos, Daniel Kapinos (Christy); and six great-grandchildren, Gage Davis, Cody Thomas, Savannah Basye, Addison Hofstede, Katarina Kapinos and Nathan Kapinos. He retired as Senior Chief Ship's Service Man after serving 20 years in the U.S. Navy. During his service from 1943 to 1963, Mike served on the USS Northampton, USS Shenondoan, USS Purdy, USS Merrimack, USS Camdus and USS George F. Elliott. After his retirement from the Navy, Mike retired from Porter-Hayden Company located in Ashland, Va. RC Houser BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. RC Houser, age 77, passed away Nov. 11, 2009, at Appalachian Christian Village in Johnson City. He was a charter member of Faith Baptist church where he taught the Wisdom Sunday School Class. Serving in the U.S. Army, he received a Bronze Star during the Korean War. He developed many businesses in Blountville helping many people and was an avid golfer. He was very devoted to his children and family and he loved the Lord. Robert C. "Bobby" Bishop, 81, of Chesterfield, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at MCV Medical Center., He was the son of the late John Otis Bishop Sr. and Florence Riddle Bishop, and was preceded in death by two brothers, John Otis Bishop Jr. and William Earl Bishop, and a sister, Bertha Pugh. Mr. Bishop was a retired Air Force veteran having served during the Vietnam War, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He retired from Shell Chemical Co. as a manager. Roy Lee Williams, Roy Lee Williams of Gordonsville and Charlottesville entered into eternal salvation on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at the age of 90., He was born on September 22, 1919, to John Elzie and Lillie S. Williams in Central Virginia where he lived his entire life., He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Pauline; his brother, Irvin; his sister, Lena Williams Stinson; and his stepson by his second marriage, Preston Morris., Roy is survived by his wife of 17 years, Loraine M. Williams; his stepdaughter, Janice L. Morris-Horn and her husband, Michael and their son, Mackenzie. He is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Shiflett and one sister-in-law, Grace Rosson. In addition, Roy will be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him., Roy served in the United States Army during the final four and one-half years of World War II. He was involved in the "Battle of the Bulge" and was in Bastogne when he was seriously wounded by remained on duty until "V-E Day". Roy carried the scars and shrapnel of injury the rest of his life with Honor and Dignity. He was a self effacing hero by the truest definition., Roy showed his love for the Lord by being a lifelong member, Deacon, and proud and supporter of the Gordonsville Baptist Church where he was deeply involved in the construction of the church's beautiful sanctuary. For the past 17 years he attended both the Gordonsville Baptist Church and the Covenant Church of God in Charlottesville most every Sunday., Roy requested and his family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Building Fund of the Gordonsville Baptist Church, P.O. William Fred Tauscher Sr. BRISTOL, Va. William Frederick "Bill" Tauscher Sr., age 93, went to be with his beloved wife and his Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Wellmont Hospice House after a brief illness. He was born on Oct. 3, 1916, in Knoxville, Tenn. moving to Bristol Virginia, at the age of five. He was the son of the late John Frederick and Pansy Black Tauscher. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Ruth Frye Tauscher; stepmother, Virginia Tauscher; two brothers, Robert and David Tauscher; and sister, Betty Lou Robinson. Bill was a lifelong member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was a graduate of Virginia High School and Georgia Military Academy. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, joining in January 1945, and serving in the Pacific, Okinawa, Iwo Jimo and Saipan. He was an expert machinist, retiring from Monroe Calculating of Bristol. He had worked with his father at Bristol Paper Box Company. He worked in security for the TVA at South Holston and Douglas Dams. He loved gardening, hunting, fishing, hiking and the outdoors. He loved his family and was a devoted Christian. Survivors include one daughter, Linda Phillips and husband Darrell of Bristol Virginia; six sons, William F. Tauscher Jr. and wife Judy of Wildwood, Fla., James M. Tauscher and wife Lee of Bristol Tennessee, John F. Tauscher and wife Gail of San Diego, Allan Tauscher of Sarasota, Fla., Phillip W. Tauscher and wife Patty and Everett L. Tauscher and fianc‚e Sharon Williams, all of Bristol Virginia; one brother, Doug Tauscher of Rock Hill, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
