BUGG, Mrs. Annetta Purdy, age 94, of South Hill, died Thursday, October 14, 2010 in Community Memorial Heath Center. She was married to the late William Joseph Bugg, and is survived by two sons, William Joseph Bugg Jr. "Bill" and his wife, Elaine, of Richmond and Charles L. Bugg and his wife, Sharon, of Madison Heights, Va.; a sister, Lucy Bowen of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; one brother, Claude Milborn Purdy of Atlanta, Ga. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Joe and Catherine Bugg, Kathy and Larry Parker, Susan and Rob Paullin, all of Richmond, Va., Cristy and John Kosco of Falls Church, Va.; and six great-grandchildren. Arthur "Buddy" ALLANSON

ALLANSON, Arthur "Buddy," 75, of Richmond, departed this life suddenly on Saturday, October 16, 2010. Born December 31, 1934, Buddy has been reunited with his wife, Brenda Allanson; his parents, Neal and Lucinda Allanson; and his brother, Fred Allanson. He leaves in deep mourning his wife, Deborah Allanson; his brothers, Kenneth and Bill Allanson; his sons, Andrew Allanson (Carla), Michael Loving (Jessica), and Matthew Loving (Dee); and his daughters, Melissa Poh (Daniel), Leslie Orr (Barry), and Jennifer Rock (Dustin). Cherishing memories of Papa/Pop Pop are his grandchildren, Matt, Jon, Chris and Ben Orr; Arly, Nicholas, and Jarrett Poh; Jordan Rock; Patrick and Colin Randall; James and Jacob Loving; Dustin and Derek Franklin; Keith and Kyle Loving; and Andrew, Amanda, and Hannah Allanson; and honorary granddaughters, Ashley and Megan Reynolds. He also leaves behind a host of family and friends. Buddy served his country by joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1954 and served through 1957. He supported his family with more than 30 years of employment with Reynolds Metals. Upon retirement from Reynolds Metals, Buddy became a bus driver for Henrico County. Buddy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother-in-law. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, gardening, and watching any sport or event in which his children or grandchildren were involved. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, October 20 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 21 at 11 a.m. Interment following at Washington Memorial Park. He was the director of 911 Communications for Chowan County and had worked in that department for over 20 years. He was a member and past regional representative of the North Carolina Association of Public Communication Officials, a member of the North Carolina National Emergency Numbers Association, and a member of Edenton Baptist Church. Clara moved to Hampton, Va., in 1948 to teach kindergarten at Immanuel Lutheran Church for Pastor George McRee, with whom she lived. After her marriage there in 1949, she and her husband, Bob, together attended Virginia Tech where Clara received her Phi Kappa Phi key and a B.S. in Rural Sociology in June of 1954. She later attended the University of Richmond, where she received her M. Ed. in August of 1977. She served 17 years as an elementary school librarian for Goochland County, Va. She was fiercely dedicated to her children, and every child she met was hers.

Sue Thomasson SUFFOLK - Cora Baxley "Sue" Thomasson, of the 2900 block of Ames Cove Drive, died Oct. 16, 2010 in her home. She was born Feb. 10, 1941 to the late Walter Johnson and Grace Baxley of St. Pauls, N.C. She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Ronald Baxley. Sue was a loving wife, mother, sister and teacher. She taught in Maryland for a few years before moving to Suffolk. She finished her career of 29 years teaching at Western Branch Elementary School. Survivors include her husband of 41 years, O.C. "Tom" Thomasson Jr.; one son, Tommy Thomasson III and wife Angie of Suffolk; two grandchildren, Amber and Bryce (the love of her life); one sister, Sandra Godwin and husband William of Sherrills Ford, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Oct 18, 2010 EDEN, N.C. — Druie "Junior" Harbour, 85, of 724 Bryant St., Eden, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Morehead Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rockingham County on Nov. 12, 1924, to Druie Thomas and Addie Young Harbour. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy "Jack" Harbour. He was a World War II Marine veteran and he retired from West Window Co. in Martinsville, Va. He was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Vivian Turner Harbour of the home; two nephews; and two great-nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway, Va., with visitation to follow. Elma Brinn Jones VIRGINIA BEACH - Elma Brinn Jones, 89, died Saturday Oct. 16, 2010. She was born Nov. 16, 1920 to Pearl J. and James S. Brinn in Hyde County, North Carolina. She moved to the Tidewater area when she married. Elma was a member of the Laurel Avenue Church of Christ in Chesapeake for 63 years. For many of those years, she taught youth Sunday school class and was active in the Ladies Ministries. She was predeceased by her husband, Dewey W. Jones and her son, Dewey A. Jones. Eunice Mae Bryant NORFOLK - Eunice Mae Bryant, 74, of the 200 block of Corporate Blvd., was called home to be with the Lord Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 at a local hospital. She was born Dec. 8, 1935 to the late John Haskins and Mary Butts. She was the widow of James A. Bryant and James M. Billups. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Willie Haskins, Louis Butts and Alexander Butts; and one sister, Patricia Butts. Eunice was a caregiver for many years and retired from the nursing profession in 1993. She often shared her home and family with the patients who were in her charge. Not wanting recognition or reward, her giving spirit was an example for all of us. She was a faithful member of New Life Worship Center in Norfolk where she loved her pastors. The church and its members were very dear to her and she worked diligently on the Usher Board, was president of Pastor's Aide, choir member, one of the Mothers of the church and other committees. For many years she was active as an Eastern Star and Order of the Tents. Eunice leaves heart-filled memories to those who knew her. She lives on in the memories of her five daughters, Mary E. Taylor (William), Michele Billups (Elliott), Renita Martin (Gerald) of Norfolk, Debbie Foreman (Isiah) of Chesapeake and Vernice Smith (Ron) of Midland, Ontario, Canada; four sons, James M. Billups (Mary) of Norfolk, Gary S. Billups (Angela) of Chesapeake, Don Billups (Donna) of Covington, Va., and Jermaine Burke of Norfolk; three sisters, Gracie Sherman of Newport, Ky., Harriett Foreman of Chesapeake and Pauline Robinson (James) of Norfolk; 25 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The celebration of life will be held Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. in New Life Worship Center, 925 Briar Hill Road, Norfolk, by pastors Carl and Barbara Vann. Henry Mason Brizzolara Henry Mason Brizzolara of Allentown, Pennsylvania, formerly of Orange, Virginia, died from congestive heart failure on Saturday, October 9, 2010, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska., Henry Mason was born on February 8, 1930, in Albemarle County, Virginia, the son of the late Ettore Andrew Brizzolara and Nancy Mason Coons. He graduated from the University of Virginia and served his country for several years in the United States Army. He moved to Allentown in the early 1950's with his wife, and was employed with Mack Trucks and subsequently Atlas Powder Company, as a mechanical engineer. He enjoyed many activities including fishing, hunting, trap shooting, and just being outdoors. He was a loving husband, devoted father, dedicated father-in-law, and proud grandfather. He could build most anything, fix almost everything, and was always ready and willing to help out a friend or neighbor when they called upon him., Henry was a long-time, faithful member of the Episcopal Church of the Mediator in Allentown and for many years was an active usher with the church., Mr. Brizzolara was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Nary Brizzolara of Allentown, Pennsylvania, formerly of Madison, Virginia., He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Brizzolara Konop and her husband, Thomas Konop, of Anchorage, Alaska; his grandson, Cody Konop of Anchorage, Alaska; his brothers, Andrew Brizzolara of Baltimore, Maryland, Robert Brizzolara of Orange, Virginia, and Frank Brizzolara of Roanoke, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews., Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at Mount Nebo Lutheran Church in Rochelle, Virginia, with interment at the church cemetery. BRUNTON, Jack Dean, passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2010 at the age of 80. Jack was born January 6, 1930 in Jackson, Ohio, to Eleanora and Guy Brunton. He became a member of the Ohio State Militia at the age of 14 and continued on when the Ohio Militia was federalized into the 137th Infantry of the Ohio National Guard. He enlisted in the Air Force at age 17, where he served for 23 years and attained the rank of master sergeant. While in the Air Force, he was stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas, Lowry AFB in Denver, Colo., Walker AFB in Roswell, N.M. in the 509th Bomb Wing, Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio in the USAF Photo Recon Research Lab, Nuossur AFB in Casablanca, French Morroco Photo Intelligence Lab, RAF Station Burtonwood Warrenton, Lancaster, England, where he was the NAMA Photo Intelligence Lab Commander, then in West Palm Beach ABF in West Palm Beach, Fla. in the 1370 Photo Mapping Wing, then Arlington Hall Station in Arlington, Va. Air Force Intelligence Center and finally the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. in the Defense Intelligence Agency. He was awarded the Expert Marksman Medal, Korean and Vietnam Theater of Operations Medals, two Congressional Unit Citations and Joint Service Medal, awarded by the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Jack then retired from the USAF in 1968 and went to work for The Richards Corporation in Tysons Corner, Va., where he served as vice president and held a seat on the Board of Directors until just last year. Jack married Lenna Margaret Long, his childhood sweetheart, on August 1, 1950. She preceded him in death on April 29, 2000. He was also preceded in death by their oldest daughter, Jacquelyn Deen Brunton Powell, whose husband, John Dean Powell, and their son, John Dean "Jack" Powell, both of Bowling Green, Va., still survive. He is survived by his second daughter, Kerri Brunton Valentine and her husband, Mike Valentine and their two daughters, Kelly Lynn Valentine and Lenna Morgan Valentine Durham and her husband, Wil Durham and their son, Wilson Drake Durham, all of whom reside in Ashland, Va. Morgan is a nurse at Westport Hospital and Kelly is a senior at Kerri's alma mater, Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. "Dad was a true force of nature whose intelligence and drive took him around the world and made him the wonderful father that he was. I will miss you Dad, but I know you're with Mom and Jackie now." After Margaret passed away, Jack married Betty Douthett of Jackson, Ohio in April 2002, and they resided at Hanover Country Club in Ashland, Va. Jack is survived by Margaret, and her three children, Nancy Brandon of Fredericksburg, Va., Brady Douthett of Cleveland, Ohio and Trent Douthett of Naples, Italy; and Betty's three grandchildren, Katie, Cameron, and Elliott. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home - Reid Chapel in Ashland, Va. James M. Duff ELIZABETH CITY - James MacNealley "Mac" Duff passed away Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 at the age of 92. He was born Sept. 23, 1918, the twin son of William P. and Katherine Ehringhaus Duff. He graduated from Elizabeth City High School, attended North Carolina State, University of North Carolina and Poughkeepsie Business School. After attending college, Mac served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in patrol bombing squadron VP 206 and then served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve as a captain in the medical service corps. His professional career began as an assistant secretary of State Capital Life Insurance Company, and president of Life Insurance Company of North Carolina. He later was a senior vice president and area executive of First Union National Bank where he retired at age 70. He also served for three years following his naval service in addition to his normal occupation as director and administrator of St. Agnes Hospital in Raleigh, N.C. During his career, Mac served on the Board of UNC Medical Foundation and a past president of its Co-Founder club. Mac also served as a member of the Board of Directors for BB&T in Raleigh, First Union National Bank in Elizabeth City; COA Foundation and Elizabeth City State University Foundation. He was also named chairman of the board for the College of the Albemarle, chairman of the Pasquotank United Fund, president of the Elizabeth City Rotary Club and recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow and a former member of Carolina Country Club in Raleigh, and Pine Lakes Country Club in Elizabeth City, and a chairman of Elizabeth City Chamber of Commerce. Mac was a lifelong Episcopalian serving as Senior Warden at St. Mary's in Kinston, N.C., Junior Warden at Christ Episcopal Church in Elizabeth City, and a recipient of numerous civic awards. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Patty Banks Duff; son, James MacNealley Duff Jr of Raleigh; daughters Steva Sheppard Williams and husband Bill of Suffolk, Patricia Sheppard Jones and husband Lee of Elizabeth City; and son, James Thomas Sheppard Jr. and wife Lyle of Wake Forest, N.C. Grandchildren include Ashley Brown, Taylor Jones, Lindsey Jones, Courtney Gartman, Justin Hayes, and Jarrett Hayes and a great-grandchild, Cayleigh Brown. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. in Christ Episcopal Church in Elizabeth City. Born April 1, 1932, in Russell County, Va., he was a son of the late Isaac Floyd and Mary T. Boyd Stevens. He had spent most of his life in the area and was of the Freewill Baptist faith. A disabled and retired coal miner, he had formerly been employed by Clinchfield Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph Elden Stevens Jr. and Marty Dane Stevens; and one brother, Homer Stevens. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Verbie Stevens of the home; three daughters, Edith Rebecca Meredith and husband, Johnny, of Polk City, Fla., Renita Deane Dye and husband, Grat, of Cleveland, and Kathy Vanessa Huff and husband, Kenny, of Lebanon, Va.; 14 grandchildren, Gregory Steven Byrd, Kelly Natasha Oneal, Joseph Lucas Chafin, Robert Joseph Steven, Jessica Nicole Killen, Krystal Lynn Stevens, Heather Renee Stevens, Christopher Mack Stevens, William Brian Musick, Ira Daniel Musick, Jonathan Adam Musick, William Tyler Huff, Devin Isaac Stevens, and Elizabeth Mae Stevens; three sisters, Norma Cook of Rowe, Va., Thelma Wise of Huntington, W. Va., and Lona Boothe of Cleveland; three brothers, Andy Stevens of Castlewood, Va., Granville Stevens of Cleveland, Ohio, and Goebel Stevens of Davenport; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Va., with the Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and the Rev. Cecil Musick officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Stevens Cemetery near the home. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to assemble at the cemetery. Maxine Moore Inks VIRGINIA BEACH - Maxine was born in 1936 in Reidsville, N.C., and passed on to the Lord Sept. 23, 2010. She grew up in Norfolk and Virginia Beach graduating from Virginia Beach High School. Maxine raised her family in Kings Grant while working for the family business, Mrs. Moore's Bakery, until it closed. In l982, she moved with family to Sparks, Nev., and there enjoyed a full life with family and friends until her passing. Mel was born in Washington, D.C., to the late James Carroll Leaman and Lorraine Jones Leaman. He grew up in the Marlowe Heights area of Maryland where he attended the Ben Franklin School of Accounting. Mel moved to Marion in the mid 1970's and went to work for the Appalachian Power Company. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Marion where he sang in the choir and served on the Men's Vestry. He was a former chairman for the Smyth County Democrat Party, an aide for Delegate John H. Tate in the Virginia House of Delegates and served on the Marion Town Council for the past 16 years. He was the director of the Smyth County Free Clinic for the past nine years. Mel served on various boards, civic organizations and coached in the Marion Recreational Department for several years. Survivors include: his loving wife of 34 years, Jane Leaman; three children, Kelly Blevins and husband Andy, Marion; Michelle Powers and husband Ronnie, Marion, Brian Leaman, Marion; brother, Jim Leaman and wife Cindy, Richmond; grandchildren, Sarah Jane Blevins, Olivia Porter Blevins, Kendell Marie Powers, Jacob Melvin Ryan Powers, "a fighter just like his papaw", Brian Martin Leaman Jr., Trevan Cole Leaman; many, many friends also survive. She was the beloved wife of Stephen Harlan Cooke. Born March 1, 1963, in Lincoln, Neb., she was the daughter of Edward Lowell and Gloria Stevens Johnson, of Madison Heights. She was an Administrative Assistant with Harris Corporation and a member of Faith Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father in law, the Rev. Dr. Harlan Cooke. In addition to her husband and parents, Patricia leaves to cherish her memory four children, Steven Cody Johnson, Jillian Amber Conner and husband, Dustin, Nicholas Evan Cooke, and Katelin Marie Cooke, all of Madison Heights; six sisters, Barbara Johnson, of Las Vegas, Nev., Debra Johnson, of Madison Heights, and Susan Burton, Sandra Musgrave, June Champoux and Joan Kimball, all of Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Alyssa June Conner and Ayden Joshua Conner; and her mother-in-law, Barbara June Cooke, of Madison Heights. Paul Hamilton Wilson HAMPTON - Paul H. Wilson, 60, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010. A native of Pensacola, Fla., he had been a Peninsula resident for the last 55 years. He was a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Virginia State Bar Association and the Hampton Bar Association. He shared 29 years of marriage with his beloved wife Christie and practiced law with her since 1991 at the firm they founded, Wilson and Wilson, PC. Mr. Wilson was a graduate of Norfolk Catholic High School, Belmont Abbey College and received a degree from Syracuse University College of Law while also obtaining a Master of Public Administration degree from the Syracuse University Maxwell School of Public Administration. He also completed additional graduate hours at Old Dominion University in urban studies. He served as an instructor for the Virginia Bar Association's "Bridge the Gap" seminars. A very talented musician and songwriter, Paul was a founding member and lead vocalist of the C-Street Band. He was actively involved with his children's activities, serving as the assistant coach of the Hampton Roads Academy Track team and also coached little league baseball. He was a past president with the Wythe Exchange Club, and thoroughly enjoyed frequent world travels with his wife and family. Survivors include his wife, Christie Wilson; two children, Concetta Wilson of Raleigh, N.C., and George M. Wilson of Jacksonville, Fla.; his sister, Maria Gilmer and his brother, Dr. George Wilson, as well as many well-loved nieces and nephews and Christie's large extended family with whom he was especially close. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Shuble Blackard; a son, J.C. Blackard; a grandson, Charles Henry Blackard; two sisters, Dallas Hensley and Jane Ray; and two brothers, Moir and Noel Holt. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ of Dry Pond. Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Lawson and Shirley Handy, both of Stuart; two sons, Charles William Blackard of Woolwine and Bennie Ray Blackard of Stuart; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; four step-granddaughters; two brothers, Harry Holt of Stuart and Jay Holt of Rocky Mount; two sisters, Norine Bufkin of Martinsville and Eunice Young of Bassett; and several nieces and nephews. HADDER, Peggy Shackelford, on Sunday, October 17, 2010 the Lord called our angel to her eternal home where there is no more pain and sorrow. Peggy was born March 8, 1937 in New London, Caroline County, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry James and Dolly Vaughan Shackelford, and her son, Timothy Wade Hadder. Peggy is survived by her husband of 54 years, Asbury Wallace Hadder; daughters, Susan Wallace Hadder and Catherine Hadder Armstrong; son-in-law, Donald Armstrong; three grandchildren, Emily Powell, Madison Armstrong, and Taylor Armstrong; sisters, Margaret Bruce and Mary Skinker; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Davis and Alva Hadder; and 10 nieces and nephews. After completing her education in Caroline County Public Schools, Peggy moved to Richmond and worked with the telephone company and several insurance companies. Peggy was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and was particularly proud of being an excellent homemaker. She was loyal, considerate, and kind with a special love for infants. She prided herself in her friendship with Bowling Green grade school "pals," Ruth Turner, Mary Coleman, and Mary Bowie; her special friend for more than 49 years, Gloria Lucy; and her much loved family friends, Timmy and Tammy Lynn. Peggy was a lifetime member of the Baptist Church and most recently was a member of Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church. Raymond W. Heim Sr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Raymond W. Heim Sr., 71, passed away Oct. 16, 2010 in his home, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 24, 1939 in White Deer, Pa., spent eight years in the Navy which brought him to Virginia and retired from the United States Postal Service. He was a well-known local fisherman and lure maker, and a member of the Virginia Beach Anglers Club. He was predeceased by his mother, Kathryn Koch and his wife Phyllis Heim. He is survived by his brother, George Heim Jr.; sister, Ardith Wilkins; daughter, Peggy Sue Duke; sons, Jerry Heim, Randy Heim, and Raymond Heim Jr. and fiancee, Tamela Zimmerman who was also Mr. Heim's companion. Also surviving Ray are his grandsons, Matthew Duke and Jeff Duke and wife Stephanie; and many friends. Shelby J. Botto ASHBURNHAM, Mass. - Shelby J. (Johnson) Botto, 73, a longtime resident of Ashburnham, Mass., died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, Mass., after a lengthy illness. Her beloved husband, Manuel S. "Manny" Botto, died Jan. 19, 2009. Shelby was born in Windsor, N.C., Oct. 10, 1937 and was raised in Chesapeake. She was a graduate of Oscar Smith High School in Virginia, Class of 1955. She and Manny lived in Auburn, Mass., for 16 years before finally settling in Ashburnham in 1982. She was a longtime member of Ashburnham Community Church in Ashburnham and the Crossroads Community Church of Fitchburg. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her grandchildren, family and friends. She was a good mother and a super grandmother. Shelby will be sadly missed by her daughter, Rose Marie St. Germain and her husband Chris of Ashburnham; her granddaughters, Clara St. Germain and Sadie St. Germain, both of Ashburnham; two brothers, Donald Johnson and his wife Lana of Chesapeake and Linwood Johnson and his wife Anne of Charlton; her daughter-in-law, Missy (Savko) Botto Blanchard and her husband Larry of Winchendon; a nephew, Francisco Botto and his wife Marci of Crystal Lake, Ill.; and a niece, Jo Ellen Kiourtzidis and her husband Vasili of Kitty Hawk, N.C., and the many great friends she has gained throughout her life. He had a vision and built Time Square Shopping Center and relocated the Supermarket there until he sold the business in 1995. Tom loved genealogy and kept in touch with all of his relatives often. He served in World War II, he was a past member of the ACCA Temple Patrol and he served for many years on the Board of Directors for Northern Neck State Bank. Lieutenant Colonel, William Roorebach Closs, U.S., , Retired William Roorebach Closs, LTC, U.S. Army (retired), age 79, died on October 14, 2010, at his home in Manassas, Virginia. He was born on August 17, 1931, in Sparta, New Jersey, son of the late Edwin and Ruth (Anderson) Closs., Bill Closs was a devoted Catholic and a true family man, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. His life was significant to many people, but most of all to his large extended family. Bill touched many lives and everyone he touched was positively impacted. He was a U.S. Army, who served our nation for 22 years, with service that included multiple tours in Vietnam and overseas. During Bill's distinguished career, he received many awards to include the, He was preceded in death by his son, Eric; his parents; two sisters; one brother and his first wife, Alice Gray Closs. Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, COL (retired) Virginia Marie Closs of Manassas, Virginia; seven children: James Closs of Hampton, Virginia; Leslie Blessing and husband, James, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; COL Thomas Closs and wife, Christina, of Richmond, Kentucky; Patrick Closs and wife, Alisa, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; Tyler Closs and wife, Susannah, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; Susan Suckfiel and husband, Eric, of Bristow, Virginia; and Michelle Closs of Manassas, Virginia; 14 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren., The family will receive friends at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, Virginia, on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., where a rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. A memorial mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8213 Linton Hall Road, Gainesville, Virginia, on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Francis J. Peffley officiating. A Mass of Christian burial will be said at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Thursday, January 20, 2011, at 10 a.m. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on January 20 at 3 p.m. with full military honors., Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Building Fund, 8213 Linton Hall Road, Gainesville, Virginia 20155, in loving memory of LTC William R.
