Mrs. Bjork was born August 20, 1971 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Gracia Blyden and Carlton Lee. Arlene had practiced and taught Yoga since 1997. She was also a member of the Junior League of Richmond and creator/owner of Grace Yoga Systems, LLC and author of the book "A Vessel of Blessing." During her free time, she enjoyed reading, shopping and spending time with her family. Barney Duke King BRISTOL, Va. Barney Duke King, age 55, went to be with his Lord and Savior after a gallant battle with IPF on Nov. 4, 2009, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Bristol, a son to the late Robert and Neva Porter King. Barney earned his air conditioning and fefrigeration degree from Virginia Highlands and a business administration degree from Bristol Business College. He also had an IRD Mechanalysis Certification and worked as a predictive maintenance technician at the DANA Corporation. THRIFT, Doris Watkins, born October 4, 1921 in Henrico County, passed away at the age of 88 on November 5, 2009 at Lakewood Manor in Richmond. She was preceded in death by her husband, George N. Thrift M.D., who she was married to for 55 years; and by her daughter, Suzanne Thrift Johnson. Mrs. Thrift was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Richmond and participated in many activities in the church. She is survived by her sons, George N. Thrift Jr. of Richmond, Va., J. Barry Thrift of Cincinnati, Ohio and Don W. Thrift of Chesapeake, Va.; and son-in-law, Thomas W. Johnson of Boston, Mass.; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Thrift, in addition to raising four children, volunteered her time as a member of the Women's Board of Richmond Eye Hospital and served as a resident for two years. She was also a member of the Tuckahoe Woman's Club for many years and a longtime breast cancer survivor, who also volunteered her time to comfort and counsel other survivors in area hospitals. Dudlus Melvin Dishner Dudlus Melvin Dishner, age 56, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Indian Path Hospital in Kingsport following an extended illness. He grew up in Bluff City and had lived for a number of years in Kingsport. He was preceded in death by his parents, D. Arcil and Virginia Curtis Dishner; his grandparents, Clark Melvin and Sue Curtis Metzger; stepfather, Keith Metzger; and a brother, Dennis Dishner. Born May 26, 1939, in Dunn, N.C., her mother, Pauline Stewart Martin Cooper raised her in Newport News, Va. At age 15, she successfully auditioned for the New York City Rockefeller Rockettes. Her mother would not let her quit school. After graduating from Newport News High School, she moved to New York, studied modeling and cosmetology. She successfully auditioned again, but never danced with them., She married Dennis F. Wilson in 1958 and after 25 years in the U.S. Army, they retired in Conyers, Ga. In 1987 they moved to Lake Oconee where Edna made a multitude of lifelong friends. She participated in many clubs and activities including becoming a founding member of the Ladies Golf Association at Port Armor. Edna was a member of multiple bridge clubs and loved to play slot machines. She lost her husband, Dennis, to cancer in 1992, and her mother in 2008. In 2000, Edna married Dr. William James 'BJ' Clemence of Athens, Ga., a retired UGA professor. They shared a rich life of golf and social activities., She is survived by her husband, daughter, Bonnie Marie Wilson, Atlanta, Ga.; son, Dennis F. STRAUS, Frank, 78, of Ashland, Va., went home to be with the Lord on November 2, 2009. He was predeceased by one son, Charles Straus; and one sister, Florence Johnson. Mr. Crawford was born Oct. 21, 1906, and was the son of the late John Clifton and Mary Niblock Crawford of the Chambersburg (Bethany) Township of Iredell County. His early education was in Iredell County, graduating from Statesville High School (then D. Matt Thompson). He completed Davidson College with honors in 1929, earned his master's degree at UNC Chapel Hill and later his Ph.D. from Ohio State University., In 1940, he was called into service during WWII and served as lieutenant colonel of infantry in the European theater as a member of the First United States Army Headquarters. He took part in Normandy, Central European and Rhineland Campaigns, being awarded six ribbons and three campaign stars., On May 19, 1934, George married Frances Knox of Cornelius who died Aug. 21, 1991. They had no children but both chose to educate children. She taught first grade and he served as a professor of physics at N.C. State University, Davidson College and The College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va. He retired from William and Mary and was named Professor Emeritus of Physics at that institution. He cherished the title of Professor., In addition to enjoying teaching, he had many interests and hobbies. He was talented in wood working including marquetry and furniture making. Until he was nearly 100, he shared his knowledge of astronomy through articles and star charts published in the Statesville Record & Landmark., A lifelong Presbyterian, Professor Crawford has served his church as a deacon, elder, and teacher and on many committees. Until recently, he rarely missed Sunday worship at Forest Park., He is survived by a nephew, Robert C. Crawford; and by nieces, Agnes C. Mayes and Mary Frances C. Holland of Statesville, by Sara C. Wolfson of Iowa City and Betty Crawford of Smithfield, N.C. Stephen (Mike) Wayne Hammer, 72, of Buchanan, Va., passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2009. Jacqueline Gail Simons Kelley Jacqueline Gail Simons Kelley, age 51, passed away at Bristol Regional Medical Center as the result of an illness on Nov. 4, 2009. Born Oct. 6, 1958, she was a resident of Irmo, S.C., and Bristol Tennessee. She graduated from Sullivan East High School and Draughon's College. She was an accountant and worked at several businesses in Bristol and the greater Columbia, S.C., area. She had most recently been a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House that supports the Children's Hospital in Columbia. Jacqueline was preceded in death by her mother, Peggy Denton Simons; and her sister, Shelia Marie Gose; as well as grandparents, Mollie Denton Tester and U.E. Tester, and Virginia and Andrew Simons. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Kelley of Irmo; father, William Simons of Bristol; niece, Kristan Mock and her husband Karl Mock; two great- nieces, who were the loves of her life, Ashlynne and Alexandria Mock, all of Bluff City; and brother-in- law, Robert "Bob' Gose of Blountville. Other relatives surviving include one uncle, Ronald Denton and wife Diane; and four aunts, Kitty Feathers, Dorothy Johnson, Margaret Hoffman and husband Bill, and Helen Lumbo; three god daughters, Kasey Kilgore, her daughter Kyleigh Burton, and Christina Melvin; as well as a god son, Pace Melvin, all of Bristol, are left behind. She also leaves behind Scarlett and Rhett, her two beloved pets. Services for Jacqueline will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Blountville, Tenn. "Doc" or "Bubber "as he was affectionately called by family and friends was born in Suffolk, Va., on Aug. 30, 1920, to the late James L. Richards and the late Annie Biggs Richards. "Doc" owned and operated Suffolk Professional Pharmacy for 35 years. He graduated from South Carolina University in 1942 with a major in chemistry and after a tour in the army during World War II; he entered Howard University where he completed a BS degree in Pharmacy., 'Doc' led a busy and meaningful life and participated in many church, civic and social activities. Some of the activities included: serving on the Board of Directors of the Nansemond Credit Union; vice president of the board of directors of the Retail Merchants Association, member of the Suffolk Planning Commission, and member of the Fairgrounds Plan Steering Committee. He was a proud member of the Alpha Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity for over 65 years and received the chapters first Founders Award in 2006. He was also a member of the Booker T. Washington Alumni Association and a charter member of the booster club., His church affiliation was with First Baptist Church, Mahan Street, where he has been a member for over 75 years. "Doc" served as chairperson of the Board of Trustees for many years, the Maintenance and Improvement Committee and the Finance Committee., He was predeceased by his wife, Athalia "Thala" Joyner Richards, in 2007. They had been married for 64 years and she was always the love of his life., He is survived by three children, James Jr. (Ophelia), Ann (Curtis), Patricia Lynn (John); five grandchildren, Andre (Nadine), Steven James (Anjana), Christopher, Chandra, and Jay Edward; three great-grandchildren, Julien and Jacques Kearns and Kiran Joyner Richards; brothers, George C. Richards, and Otis W. Nov 6, 2009 The funeral for James "Jimmy" Grindstaff, 63, of 3290 Skyview Trail, Martinsville, who died Nov. 3, 2009, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fieldale Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Schelling and Frank Gribble II officiating. Burial will be in the Blackberry Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. today and other times at the home on Skyview Trail. Grindstaff was born Sept. 2, 1946, in Henry County to Cameron Andrew Grindstaff and Blanche Reynolds Grindstaff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Bill Grindstaff and Burton Grindstaff. He worked as the custodian at Fieldale Baptist Church for 17 years, was a trader and buyer of cattle and livestock for a number of years, and also did carpentry work. Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Charlotte Clark Grindstaff of the home; three sons, Andy Grindstaff, Richard Daryl Grindstaff and Jason Scott Grindstaff, all of Pleasant Grove; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Grindstaff of Callands. DAVIES, John Andrew Bowersett "Pete," 91, of Culpeper, Va., died Wednesday, November 4, 2009 after a brief illness. He was born to the late John Jenkyn Davies and Mary Elizabeth Bowersett Davies of Culpeper, October 18, 1918. On August 3, 1946, he married Mary Lillian "Spilly" Purdum of Danville, Virginia, who retired after 31 years as a high school mathematics teacher. Mrs. Davies died in 2003. Mr. Davies served for 32 years as Commissioner of the Revenue of Culpeper County and served several years prior as a Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue. Both his mother and his maternal grandfather, John Andrew Bowersett, served in the same capacity as commissioners for a combined 74 years of family service to the citizens of Culpeper County. Mr. Davies graduated from Christ Church School, Christ Church, Va. in 1937, where he was awarded the prestigious Bishop's Award and was class valedictorian. He attended the University of Virginia and T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond. Mr. Davies was a veteran of World War II, having served as a sergeant in General George Patton's Third Army (European Theater), 776th Ordinance of the 76th Infantry Division. He was honorably discharged upon the War's conclusion in 1945. Mr. Davies was past president of the Culpeper Jaycees and was awarded the organization's first Distinguished Service Award in 1947; was a member of the Culpeper Host Lions Club from 1954 until his death; was a past chairman of the Culpeper United Way and a member of the Country Club of Culpeper, having served as treasurer and as a member of the board of directors. Mr. Davies was a lifelong member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Culpeper, where he served three terms as Senior Warden, four terms as Junior Warden, member of Vestry and Trustee. Survivors include his two sons, John A. B. "Andy" Davies Jr. and his wife, Mary F. Davies and their daughters, Kelly Elizabeth Bowersett Davies and Susan Paige Fantone Davies of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Lea Purdum Davies of Sharon, Connecticut and his life partner, Lawrence V. Power; his nephew, John J."Butch" Davies III and his wife, Margaret Wise "Marty" Moon, of Culpeper, Va.; his brother, John "Jack" Jenkyn Davies Jr.; and his sister, Mildred "Ducky" Davies Campbell, who preceded him in death. A graveside funeral service will be held in Fairview Cemetery, Culpeper, Va., with Rev. John Preston Seymore ABINGDON, Va. John Preston Seymore, 95, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital. John was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va. He was born June 1, 1914, to the late Frank and Martha Seymore. He enjoyed fishing, camping and all sports, particularly baseball. John loved playing shuffleboard while vacationing in Florida, and last year he won the title of Shuffleboard Champion. John was a member of Greenfield Baptist Church for over 70 years and served as a deacon for 60 years. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary McVey Seymore; his son, James Edward Seymore; four brothers; and two sisters. Jay was a graduate of Christ Church School and Warren Wilson College. He was an educator who tutored children with learning disabilities. He also worked as a library assistant at the main library in downtown Asheville, N.C. Jay loved the mountains and the beauty of Western North Carolina. Kenneth G. Smith, Kenneth Garland Smith slipped into a second life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 2, 2009., He was born May 3, 1937, a son of the late William Garland and Mary Eyler Smith of Lynchburg, Virginia., He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggy Maddox Smith; three daughters, Karen Smith Gibson, Valerie Smith Fulke of Richmond and Carol G. Smith of Charlottesville; three grandchildren, Kenneth W. Gibson, Joseph L. Gibson, and Alexandria T. Fulke; and one son-in-law, Fred Gibson. He is also survived by four brothers and their wives, William and Muriel Smith of Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, Patrick and Kathy Smith of Riner, Virginia, Robert and Faye Smith of Lynchburg, Virginia, Mark and Sharon Smith of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and one sister, Johanna and her husband, Link White, of Forest, Virginia., After graduating from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Virginia, he continued his education to be the first in his family to graduate from college. He chose to attend Virginia Military Institute where he received his B.A. in Civil Engineering. After serving his country on active duty as well as spending 20 years in the United States Army Reserves, he retired with the rank of Major. He retired from the University of Virginia in 2003 as the Director of Facilities Planning and Construction. He valued the continued pursuit of knowledge and while working at University of Virginia, received his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Averett College of Danville, Virginia, in 1995., Kenneth was a kind and loving father and devoted husband. He loved working with the Key Clubs in and around Virginia while serving in the Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville where he held several positions, one of which was Lieutenant Governor. He and his wife were also very involved in the Charlottesville Friendship Force where they welcomed many people from around the world into their home while they visited America. After moving to Lake Monticello, he became an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and enjoyed working with the Coast Guard in keeping the lake safe on busy weekends. He also loved following the University of Virginia Woman's Basketball team. He and his wife traveled to Hawaii and around the state to support his favorite team and have attended all home games for over 20 years. He loved his church, Beaver Dam Baptist, where he was a devoted member; teaching Sunday school classes, singing in the choir, serving as a Deacon and on many committees over the years., A family and friends visitation will be held from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2009, in the social hall at Beaver Dam Baptist Church located at 1794 Richmond Road, Troy, VA 22974., A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2009, in the sanctuary of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. FERN, Lillian Rogers, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, November 2, 2009. She was a native of Bartley, West Virginia, but spent her entire adult life in Richmond, Va. She was employed by Henrico County Public Schools for 36 years. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed that hobby throughout her lifetime. She leaves behind her husband, Jerry; one daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Jimmy; and her grandsons, who were the pride and joy of her life, Trey and Trevor Selfe. She was an awesome wife, mother and grandmother and loved her family beyond belief. To honor her wishes the Cremation Society of Virginia will handle her remains. ROBINSON, Lloyd A., "Robbie," Ret. Major U.S. Marine Corps, of Glen Allen, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Lloyd was born on March 12, 1941 in New Bedford, Mass. He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Robinson; his mother, Faith Tuell Robinson; and his stepmother, Ann Robinson. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Robinson; his three children, Kathy Stamatelos and her husband, Jimmy Stamatelos, Scott Robinson and his wife, Jennifer Robinson, and Paul Robinson; four grandchildren, Ryan Stamatelos, Jeffrey Stamatelos, Christina Stamatelos, and Ella Marie Robinson; and two stepchildren, Bryan Ready and Katherine Ready Reznikov and her husband, Pavel Reznikov. Lloyd's service in the United States Marine Corps spanned 26 years to include a tour of duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis, several combat tours in Vietnam, and work for the Naval Investigative Service, as well as for the Marine Corps counterintelligence (Marine Corps CI) before he retired as a major in 1986. MATTHEWS, Marilyn Rae "Idgy," passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on October 31, 2009 at her home after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Marilyn was a wife, a mother, grandmother, and inspirational friend. Early in her life she enjoyed bike riding, dancing, swimming, shooting skeet, hunting and fishing. Later, she became an avid tennis player, enjoyed all animals and several other outdoor activities such as bird watching and riding motorcycles. Marilyn was also a fan of the Washington Redskins and Pittsburgh Steelers. Marilyn grew up in New Salem, Pa. near Uniontown, Pa., where she was a Girl Scout, a member of the International Order of the Rainbow Girls and member of the Eastern Star. Marilyn migrated to Washington, D.C. and then moved to and made a home in Richmond, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Inez Coffman (Loughran); and husband, Barry E. Matthews. She is survived by her sister, Marianne; her sons, Brandon and Brett and his wife, Donna; grandchildren, Dalton and Hunter; many devoted friends; as well as her loyal and faithful companion cat, HoBo. She will be missed by so many, but will now and evermore enjoy peace. On Sept. 21, 1983, Michael was united in holy matrimony to Tereasa Legette of Mullins, S.C. They were married for 26 years and have two children. He joined the United States Army in 1984 and served for eight years. After leaving the military, he was a Correctional Officer in Columbus, Ga. Once he and his family moved to Delaware, he worked with the Sheriff's Department in Elkton, Md., and at Courthouse Twenty in Wilmington, Del. In 2003, Michael wrote about his life in a book called How Prayer Helped Me! This book was his personal testimony about the power of God working in his life and was written to inspire others to know that with God, nothing is impossible. Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle's time to die occurred on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, around noon at Mary Immaculate Hospital. God knew that our beloved, after spending the last year of his life in and out of the hospital and as a resident of Saint Francis Nursing Center, had endured enough pain and that it was time for him to be delivered from his suffering., He was married to the late Marjorie Tolliver for nearly 50 years. That union produced two sons and a daughter. Mack was a hard worker and many days he worked from sun up to sun down operating a trash route while working full time at Cheatham Annex. NEWPORT NEWS - Robert Norris passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 04, 2009., Mr. Norris moved to Newport News from Dunn, N.C., in 1951, and attended Warwick High School. In his junior year he joined the Naval Reserves and after school went on active duty to fulfill his military commitment., In 1957 he worked for the Bank of Warwick where he became head teller of the Parkview branch. He also became head teller with the Bank of Hampton Roads., In 1960 he worked for his neighbor and good friend, Bill Andrews, with the Commission of Revenue for nine years. In 1969 he formed Norris Amusements. He operated the first moon walks on the east coast and later added a putt putt. Mr. Norris opened Norris Mobile Markees, a portable sign rental business in 1970. He operated this business for 38 years until he retired Dec. 31, 2007., An avid golfer, he served on the Williamsburg Board of Directors for many years. In the 60's and 70's he raised thousands of dollars organizing and operating golf tournaments for his favorite charity, the, . He played in PGA Pro Ams with PGA Pro Doug Sanders and his late friend Flip Wilson. She was the widow of the late Walter Paul Thompson. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas William Willoughby and his wife, Lucille and Harry Franklin Willoughby and his wife, Helen; and by one sister, Louise Willoughby Wright and her husband, Charles, all formerly of Unionville., Ruby attended Mary Washington College and graduated from the University of Virginia. She taught in Prince William for one year and in Orange County for 42 years. She was a former member of the Orange County retired Teachers Association and of the Orange Business and Professional Women's Club. After a 26 year career, she retired from the Noland Company as a cost analyst operator. As a faithful and very active member of Liberty Baptist Church, she participated in many social activities, sang in the Heart Throbs Choir, worked on the kitchen committee, and taught Sunday school for more than 40 years. She enjoyed crafts and hand work including embroidery, crochet, and needlework. Her skills as a seamstress lead her to create and construct many outfits without using sewing patterns, including making dresses for family members for special occasions and gatherings., Preceding her in rest is her beloved husband, Oscar C. Thomas Jackson "T.J." Leonard Jr. Dr. Thomas Jackson "T.J." Leonard Jr. , 92, died on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at NHC Healthcare in Bristol Virginia. He was a son of the late Thomas Jackson Leonard and Cordie Stone Leonard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Gardner Leonard; and by a sister, Jane Sanders. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps and served during World War II. He received a B.A. from King College in 1939. He then went on to do graduate work at Southwestern University in Memphis, Tenn., and then graduated from University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1949. Dr. Leonard practiced dentistry for 40 years in Bristol until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the Community Church of Bristol. She was educated at Little Mill School in Dinwiddie County and Lackawanna Public Schools in New York., After returning to Virginia she met and married the late Deacon Robert Lee Robinson Sr. and to that union they had 10 children., She was employed at Seward Luggage for several years and performed domestic services in the area. She confessed Christ at an early age and was affectionately known as The Church Mother of the Rocky Mount Baptist Church for many years. She served as president of the senior choir and missionary unit of the church, was a Sunday school teacher, church custodian, church treasurer and was a member of the Dinwiddie Chapter of 4-H for many years, and was recognized by Who's Who. She was preceded in death by her husband, all of her siblings and grandchildren, Joseph Carnell Brown, Joanne Brown, and stepson Richard E. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Pattie Tucker; five children, Jerri Perkins (Robert) of Rawlings, Va., Earline Pitchford (Carl), Dorothy Epperson (Arthur) of Fall Church, Va., Warner Tucker Jr. (Ersel) of Baltimore, Md., James Tucker (Sheila); 23 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bishop James (Louise), and Fred Tucker (Connie), both of Emporia, Va.; three sisters, Mary Jane Sykes of Seaboard, N.C., Nelie May Taylor, and Eloise Jarrett of Emporia, Va.; daughter-in-law, Ann Tucker; a host of other relatives and friends. Marie L. Wells, 81, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, November 4, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, James A. and Mary E. Wells. Miss Wells was employed by F.W. Woolworth for 47 years, and was the manager of the Salem Plaza store. She was a lifelong member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She is survived by her sister, Betty J. Wells; and special friends, Patty and Harvey Roberts. Ricky A. Whitenack, 55, of Roanoke, Va., passed away at his home Tuesday, November 3, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ann R. and Jack W. Whitenack and a brother, David G. Whitenack. Surviving are a niece, Heather Whitenack; nephew, Brian Whitenack, both of Roanoke; an aunt, Martha Daniel, Charlotte, N.C.; and an uncle, Robert Williams, of Fincastle; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Ricky was a graduate of Patrick Henry High School, and Radford University where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge, Master Mason, Taylor and Lakeland Lodges, Kazim Shiners and was an avid fan of British motor cars and all kinds of sports especially softball. He is predeceased by a brother, Clarence Ervin Wilson., Mr. Wilson was one of seven children and the beloved husband of Roberta B. Wilson for more than 42 years., He will forever be remembered by his beloved children, Michelle (Travis) Mabrey and Keisha (Alger) Nichols; treasured grandchildren, Jasmine Mabrey, Janelle Mabrey and Kiersten Nichols; devoted brothers, Elbert (Willie Mae) Wilson of Los Angeles, Nathaniel (Eloise) Wilson of Southside, Tenn., Raymond (Mahnaz) Wilson of Memphis; loving sisters, Shirley (George) Shipp of Munford, Tenn., and Barbara Waller of Gurnee, Ill.; three sisters-in-law, Bernice (James) Elam Sr. of Zuni, Va., Irene B. Littlejohn of Suffolk and Lurline Wilson of Memphis, Tenn; brothers-in-law, George Eley Sr. of Zuni and William Rountree of Suffolk; two godchildren, Josiah Allen of Suffolk and Dameron (Cle) Jones of Gaithersburg, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends., He dedicated his life to educating and assisting others. Some of his accomplishments include forming a local Chapter of JETS (Junior Engineering Technical Society) at Suffolk High School in 1982; getting Suffolk High School involved with CHROME (Cooperating Hampton Roads Organization for Minorities in Engineering, Inc.) in 1983; finding employment at various engineering companies for CHROME students; being selected as the CHROME Sponsor of the Year; being nominated by CHROME for the National Teacher Award for Community Service; being selected as Suffolk Teacher of the Year in 1993; being selected as Lakeland High School Teacher of the Year from 1999-2000; and teaching in the Suffolk Public School System from 1969 to 1973 and from 1975 until retirement in 2003. Born on Nov. 21, 1944, in Worcester, Mass., he graduated from North High School, earned an Associates degree from Quinsigamond Community College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Worcester State College both located in Worcester. He worked as a first-class lineman for New England Power Service Company before retiring to Williamsburg in 1991.He served six years in the Massachusetts Army National Guard and was honorably discharged with a rank of PFC E-3., While living in Massachusetts, Bill was an active volunteer at the Old Sturbridge Village Research Library where he assisted with the conservation of rare books and manuscripts., Mr. MacQueston and his wife were an early service usher team at St. Stephen Lutheran Church., An avid golfer, Bill was a member of the Tuesday morning Amoco group at Deer Run. Bill was recognized by the Virginia Golf Association as a hole-in-one recipient several years ago – an award that brought him much joy. He belonged to the Williamsburg James City County Recreation Center and enjoyed his many friends during workouts. Bill had a passion for classic cars and music from the 1950's. He loved cruising to Bermuda and throughout the Caribbean with his wife. Bill was a deeply devoted husband and caring friend., Mr. MacQueston was preceded in death by his parents, Harold J.
