Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park with military rites by the Martinsville/Henry County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard and Masonic rites by Piedmont Masonic Lodge 152, Martinsville. Pallbearers were Zeke Craddock, John Hopkins, James Taylor, Marvin Craig, Jimmy Ellis, Trey Craddock, Travis Crabtree, Dustin Shelton, Jules Taylor, Matthew Fleagle and Luke Fleagle. Mrs. Audrey Mae Bridgewater Cain was born March 31, 1942, to the proud parents, George and Ethel Bridgewater in New Roads, La. She was second to the youngest of seven children from this union. She also had six half-brothers and one half-sister whom she was raised with. Audrey graduated from Chon High School, Class of 1961 in Port Allen, La. Audrey continued her education at Capitol Area Vocational School in Baton Rouge, La. She received a Certificate in Business. She developed superior skills in bookkeeping, accounting and shorthand writing. Audrey used these skills throughout her life and taught her children these skills as well. She was also a gifted seamstress who made original clothing for her children and family. In 1964, she married Mr. George E. Cain in San Francisco. From this union, two devoted daughters were born, Lisa M. Cain-Brooks and Kimberly E. Cain-Mabry. She also had two wonderful grandchildren, Paris Bianca Cain and Keith Marcell Brooks Jr. Audrey valued the great deal of quality time she was able to spend with her grandchildren. Audrey will be missed and remembered by her husband, George E. Cain of Prince George, Va.; her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Keith Brooks of Petersburg, Va. and Kimberly and Kendall Mabry of Decatur, Ga.; grandchildren, Paris Cain and Keith Brooks, Jr.; beloved sisters, Lucinda Redwine of Richmond, Calif., Elma Lee and Abadella Bridgewater both of Petersburg, Va.; a host of very devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Judge Hollie Conley of Garrett, Ky., died Sun., Jan. 11, 2009 in Illinois. He was born to Willis and Mimia Conley Jan. 14, 1921. He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Martin Conley, his parents, his brothers Haden and Clyde Conley, sisters Inez Cox and Edna Everidge. Surviving are sisters Sallie (Victor) Scherrer of Alexandria, Va., and Bessie (Homer) Draughn of Lexington, Ky. In addition, he is survived by son Hollie Martin Conley of New York; daughters Judelle Conley of Lexington, Danise (Mark) White of Virginia and Melanie (Ron) Warfield of Illinois. He was a fun loving grandfather to Scott, Robb and Leah Warfield, Holly (Bo) Renes, Chad (Alyssa) White and Rebecca White. Also surviving are 7 great grandchildren. Judge Conley was a graduate of Alice Lloyd College, University of Kentucky and Duke University Law School. He served in the US Navy during World War II, was Floyd County Attorney and Commonwealth's Attorney before serving for 28 years as Judge of the Circuit Court. Judge Conley and his wife Minnie owned and operated Conley's Ky Food Store in Garrett for more than 40 years. Judge Conley lived with a passion for life: a passion for hunting, a passion for Ky. sports, a passion for serving the customers at Conley's Ky Food Store, a passion for being fair and equal as a judge and a passion for his family. Charles Kenneth Franciscus, 76, of Prince George, passed away on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 at Chippenham Medical Center. He was the son of the late Charles Kenneth and Ardella Shoap Franciscus, and was preceded in death by a son, Joe Allen Franciscus and his grandmother, Lottie D. Shoap who raised him. He retired as a Sergeant Major with the Army after 26 years, and served during the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Franciscus worked in Civil Service for 15 years with the Troop Support Agency in Fort Lee. He was a lifetime member of Ole Hickory Hunt Club of Prince George, and a member of the Colonial Heights American Legion Posts #284. HARRISON, Dr. Jaquelin M., retired Richmond surgeon, died on January 22, 2009. He was 86 years of age. While in the Army Specialized Training program he graduated from the University of Viriginia, Medical School in 1946, interned at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, and served in the U.S. Army medical corp from 1947 to 1949. He completed his residency in surgery at the Medical College of Virginia in 1954. Subsequently until 1970 he served as a full time faculty member in the department of surgery at MCV. From 1970 until his retirement in 1990, he was a member of surgical associates of Richmond. He is survived by his wife, Marybelle O. Harrison; three children, Mrs. Judith Pace of Richmond, Va., Alice Ridgely Harrison of Shipman, Va., and Randolph F. Harrison of Fort Myers, Fla. He is predeceased by another son, Jaquelin M. Harrison Jr.; and a brother Frederick N. James Melvin "Mel" Jones, 78, of Colonial Heights, passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009. He was the son of the late James Landon and Dora Lee Guy Jones, and was preceded in death by a sister Katherine McMahon. Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was retired from the United States Postal Service Petersburg office. JUREIDINI, Helen Bemis Black, passed away on January 23, 2009 in Richmond, Virginia surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Paul; her mother, Helen Louise Black; her brother, Nicholas C. Black III; and her daughters, Helen Jureidini Heilmeier (Tim), Joan Jureidini Cater (Donald), Vicky Jureidini Deehan (Kristopher); and her son, John. She is also survived by many cousins, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and friends. Helen was born on November 28, 1944 in Memphis, Tennessee. She was a graduate of Mary Washington College (French Ed) as well as the Medical College of Virginia (Physical Therapy). She spent most of her career as a physical therapist in Northern Virginia before moving with her husband to Mechanicsville, Virginia. Prior to the illness that took her from her family and friends she served as a Senior Physical Therapist specializing in integrative Manual Therapy (IMT) at CJW Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. The memorial and inurnment will be limited to her immediate family. In lieu of sending flowers, it was Helen's with that contributions in her name be made to the American Cancer Society for research and development of treatment for non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. |

Veronica "Ronnie" Ward Lichvar, 46, beloved wife, mother, daughter and friend went to be with her Lord on Friday, Jan. 23, after a battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Chip Lichvar; a daughter, Rebecca Anne Lichvar; and son, Jonathan Robert Lichvar. She is also survived by her parents, Henry and Joyce Ward of Lanexa; brothers, Gary (Virginia) of Yorktown and Stephen of Lanexa. Her mother-in-law Evelyn and the late Robert Lichvar of Prince George. Ronnie was an active member of Staples Mill Baptist Church in Glen Allen where she worked as administrative assistant in the child development center. Her eyes were donated to the Virginia Eye Bank by her husband who himself received a heart transplant 11 years ago. The family wishes to thank the members of Staples Mill Road Baptist Church for all the love and care given to Ronnie during her illness. The hospice unit nurses and staff at Retreat Hospital who showed much compassion as they looked after her and the family during this time. LUCAS, Aubrey Lee, of Colonial Heights, Va., born on December 22, 1926, died from heart failure on January 11, 2009. He was the son of James Wiley Lucas and Kate Lee Lucas, of Petersburg, Va. Mr. Lucas grew up in Petersburg, where he graduated from Petersburg High School in 1943. During his time as a young student, he was both an Eagle Scout and Scout Leader. Mr. Lucas had a long and distinguished career in the U.S. Military. After high school, he went to the Pennsylvania Military Academy and was in the army, active duty, from 1944 to 1946. He began his service as a recruit at Fort Knox, Kentucky and then served in Korea with the first U.S. Occupation Forces. Mr. Lucas then joined the Army Reserves. He worked at Camp Pickett, where he was a Sergeant First Class. After receiving both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree from RPI (now VCU), he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Reserves. As a Reservist, Mr. Lucas attended the U.S. Command General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., where he was in the top 20 percent of his class. During the Vietnam War, he served in Battalion 53 at the reserve center at Hickory Hill, Fort Lee, at a time when the U.S. Military needed experienced officers stateside. He retired from the reserves in 1972 as a Lt. Colonel. Throughout his life, Mr. Lucas also served the state of Virginia and the city of Colonial Heights. In 1960, the Junior Chamber of Commerce (the Jaycees) named Mr. Lucas "Outstanding Young Man of the Year in Colonial Heights." He also served as President of the Jaycees. Mr. Lucas then sat on the Colonial Heights City Council from 1960 to 1968. From 1964 to 1968, Mr. Lucas was the mayor of Colonial Heights. From 1972 to 1992, Mr. Lucas worked for the state of Virginia in the Department of Mental Health and Mental Hygiene. In addition, Mr. Lucas taught Business Management and Accounting at RPI for five years. Mr. Lucas was also an active member in many local organizations, including The American Legion Post 284, POGO (Petersburg Old Geezer Organization), The Reserve Officer's Association, The VFW of Chester and the Petersburg YMCA. He was also a member and past Sunday school teacher at Highland Methodist Church. Mr. Lucas is survived by his wife of 61 years, Charlotte Cottrell Lucas; a brother-in-law, Carl Cottrell; a sister-in-law, Mildred Lewis; nephew, Frank O. Simmons; niece, Susan S. Dahlie; two great-nephews and three great-nieces. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army. The service will be private. MAGRI, Sarah Riss, 97, of Richmond, slipped away on Friday, January 23, 2009 at Manor Care Imperial. Sarah was born on May 2, 1911 in Norfolk, Va., the daughter of Elizabeth and Harry Riss. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence L. Magri; and her sisters, Florence R. Richardson and Helen R. McDowell. Mrs. Magri was a charter member and past-president of the Women's Traffic Club of Richmond. She was secretary-treasurer of the H.C. Cockrell Bonded Warehouse Corp. and the Virginia Bonded Warehouse Corp., retiring in 1983. She is survived by her niece, Pattie Magri Bevan and her husband, Duncan, of Richmond; and her nephew, Walter Richardson and his wife, Mary Sue, of Silver Spring, Md.; and five great-nephews. Aunt Sarah will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, her love of family and her generosity to all. She will be greatly missed. McWHORTER, Glenn W., 76, of Louisa, Va., died November 20, 2008. Born in Louisville, Ky., he is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; brother, John; and four nephews. Upon graduating from the University of Kentucky, Glenn worked for American Oil and Modern American before leaving corporate America to do what he loved, designing and building houses in Blue Ridge Shores in Louisa, and restoring antique cars and boats. Glenn and Mary Jane built their home on the lakefront, spending the best years of their lives there. A wonderful husband and friend, Glenn will never be forgotten by those whose lives he touched. |

Mr. Ira Jay Meade, Jr. "JR", age 54 of Raven, Va., passed away Sat., Jan. 17, 2009 in a Richlands, Va., hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 5, 1954 in Columbus, Ohio, he was a son of the late Ira Jay and Helen Arbutus Compton Meade. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a disabled coal miner having 27 years of service. Davidson; and great-nephew, Brady Levi Compton. MERRICK, Keegan Francis, born July 12, 1977, passed away on January 22, 2009. He was a loving husband and father and a loyal friend with a unique sense of humor. His love for animals was surpassed only by his love for his friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Halliday; his daughter, Owyn Rosi; his mother, Bree; his father, Ted; his brother, Quinn; his sister, Bianca; his niece, Isabelle; and his grandmother, Frances Fife. He served with distinction as an Animal Control Officer for the City of Richmond, and in 2006 was named Officer of the Year by the Virginia Animal Control Association. He also helped to organize and spearhead the Virginia Animal Fighting Task Force. Keegan recently received his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating cum laude. Although his life was far too short, his impact was deep and he will be deeply missed. Keegan's life will be honored with a family ceremony. Michael E. Moreland CHESAPEAKE - Dr. Michael E. Moreland, 61, died peacefully Jan. 21, 2009. Dr. Moreland was born in Inglewood, Calif., the son of June Marie Moreland and the late Eugene Francis Moreland. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Loyola University of Los Angeles in June 1969, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Creighton University, Omaha, Neb., in May 1973. He served a residency in dermatology at Bethesda Naval Hospital and on active duty in various assignments in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. Upon his release from active duty as a commander in 1980, he was active in the private practice of dermatology in the Churchland area for almost 29 years until his recent illness. He was a longtime member of the Cedar Point Golf Club and Elizabeth Manor Golf & Country Club. He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, Portsmouth. Mike Moreland excelled at "Service Above Self" as a member of the Churchland Rotary Club. While he held every office in the local club and served the whole Rotary district as district governor, it was his efforts in serving others that made Mike standout as a Rotarian. He led efforts in other countries with hands-on medical treatment plus the creation of permanent treatment facilities. He surpassed the highest level of giving as a Paul Harris Fellow, was recognized as a Major Donor, a Rotary Benefactor, and a member of the Paul Harris Society. Mike's efforts in helping others were recognized by the Churchland Rotary Club with a scholarship named in his honor. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Stephanie Webb Moreland; his mother, June M. Moreland of Simi Valley, Calif.; three children, Erin Moreland Lambesis and husband Christopher of Phoenix, Ariz., Matthew Allen Moreland of Portland, Ore., Shannon Colleen Moreland of Richmond, Va.; two grandchildren, Alexandra and Abigail Lambesis; and extended family. Martie Thelma Norris, age 86 of North Tazewell, Va., went to be with the Lord Tues., Jan. 13, 2009 in Grace Health Care of Abingdon, Va., after a long battle with cancer. Born Aug. 30, 1922 at Liberty, Va., she was a daughter of the late John Preston Angles and Ida Blanche Angles. She was a member of the Dial Rock Church of God in Tazewell, Va. Jack R. Patrick, age 83, of Paintlick, Va., passed away Wed., Jan. 14, 2009 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Mohegan, W.Va., and was the son of the late Samuel Riley and Juliett Blanchett Patrick. Jack was a U.S. Navy World War II Veteran and had proudly served his country. Jack was a retired coal miner from VP# 1 for Island Creek Coal Corporation and was a member of the UMWA. He had served in the American Honor Guard, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Zona June Olsen. Those who survive him are: his loving wife of 51 years, Irene Hunt Patrick of Paintlick, Va.; his daughter, Lorie Ann Patrick of Doran, Va.; his special son of the heart, Craig Smith and wife, Allene, of Wardell, Va.; four sisters, Virginia Maynard, Gail Shelton, Julie Wiles, Clara Jean Stringer; one brother, Marcus Lee Patrick; his grandchildren, Bethany and Dalton Smith. Joseph Emory Peery, Sr., age 91, of Tazewell County, formerly of Wytheville, died Sun., Jan. 4, 2009. Born April 29, 1917 in Tazewell County, Va., he was the son of the late Joe Howard and Annie Sluss Peery. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Odom Peery and a sister, Danese Peery. Mr. Peery was a descendant of John Peery, who settled near the forks of Clinch River in 1772. Mr. Peery was educated in Tazewell's schools and later worked for Pocahontas Fuel Company. In 1944 he started Peery Meat Packing Plant in North Tazewell and later one in West Virginia. He was President of Peery Trucking Company from 1959 to 1979 and established Tam Lee Farms Country Hams, Stuarts Draft, Va. Throughout his life Mr. Peery developed and sold real estate in and around Tazewell County. Mr. Peery was a man who was devoted to his friends and his family, who in turn reciprocated his affection. Mr. Peery is survived by three children and spouses, Joseph E. Jr. and Margaret Anne McBurney Peery of Tazewell, Va., Sharon Lynn Peery Hymes of Wytheville, Va., Ronald Wayne and Reina Peery of Tazewell, Va.; 11 grandchildren, Joseph E. Peery, III, Anne Hart Savvopoulos, Jennifer Margaret Buchanan, Elizabeth Hymes Fletcher, Amy Hymes Howell, Edward Hymes, Rebekah Peery, John Preston Peery, Ronald W. Peery, Jr., Susan Dawson and Rachel Peery. Twenty-eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild also survive. Mr. Peery will be cremated and interred beside his wife at Tazewell's Maplewood Cemetery. PULLEY, Helen Vashti, 92, of Richmond, died Friday, January 23, 2009. An only child, she was preceded in death by her parents, Myrtle Vashti Lowrie Pulley and David Tony Pulley of Richmond. She is survived by the children and grandchildren of her cousins throughout the United States. Her family particularly enjoyed Helen's memories of her adventures in costume as Mickey Mouse when she was a tiny young woman hired to accompany the Miller & Rhoads department store's Santa Claus during the Christmas season. She had been a resident for the past 20 years of The Lynmoore (formerly Ginter Hall West), where she leaves behind treasured friends and caregivers on the staff. RUSSELL, Marjorie Alice Gromer, 88, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2009, at the Laurels of Bon Air. She was the widow of Colonel Joe Brent Russell (USMC retired) deceased. She is survived by her daughters, JoAnn Nicholson of Richmond, her husband, Bill, and their daughter, Catherine "Cat"; Jane Brafford of Sanford, N.C., her son, Brent and his wife, Daina; Nancy Osborne of Greensboro, N.C., her husband, Zack and their daughter, Elizabeth. A Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Marjorie served as a nurse in Europe during World War II in the 47th field hospital. For the courage she displayed in preventing panic among the patients, she was awarded the Bronze Star as charge nurse of the field hospital during the shelling of Normandy. Later, her hospital was captured by the S.S. during the Battle of the Bulge. When the soldiers confiscated all of the prisoners' valuables, Marjorie was able to slip her engagement ring under her tongue to save it. She married her special marine in 1947, having been separated from him for five years during the war while he served in the Pacific. Marjorie again worked as an R.N. in Florida for several years. A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Russell at Crestwood Presbyterian Church, East Campus, on Jahnke Road on Sunday, January 25, at 3 p.m. Interment will be in Winter Park, Fla., beside her beloved husband of 44 years. Lenroy Smith, 59, of Brooklyn, N.Y., departed this life Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at the Saint John's Episcopal Hospital, Far Rockaway, N.Y. He was born to the late Ollie Smith Jr. and Mary Perry Smith, of Waverly, Va. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Haywood and Oliver James Smith. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Waverly, until he relocated. He received his education in the Sussex County School System, graduating from Central High School in 1969. Lenroy moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1970, and was employed by Health and Hospital Corporation as a patient escort at Goldwater Memorial Hospital and as a maintenance engineer and carpenter in large residential buildings in the city. Lenroy had a very unique personality. He was an intelligent, kind, loving person, who had a gentle soul and always maintained a sense of pride no matter the circumstances. He was a very good artist, loved sports, and carpentry, and enjoyed fishing. UZEL, Evelyn Martin, 83, of Richmond, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 22, 2009. She was the daughter of the late Clifford and Virginia Martin of Leicester, N.C., and former wife of Tony Uzel. She is survived by three loving daughters, Linda Maclin (John), Martha Uzel (Neal) and Patricia Lundquist; six grandchildren, Candace Gresham, Tyler Maclin, Shelly Dietrich (John), Alex Maclin, Ginnie Maclin and Carrie Lundquist; one brother, Carlyle Martin (Kathy) of Gatlinburg, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law, Mary (Uzel) Throckmorton and Agnes (Uzel) Bailey (Jimmy); and brother-in-law, Benjamin Uzel Sr. (Rose). Mr. McKinley "Toots" Whited, age 82, of Raven, Va., passed away Thurs., Jan. 15, 2009 in a Richlands, Va., hospital following a brief illness. He was born at Jewell Ridge, Va., and was the son of the late Roby and Naomi Hess Whited. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a retired coal miner. He was a member of the UMWA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Whited. Survivors are: his wife, Shirley Joy Hess Whited; two daughters: Debbie Stinson and husband, Steve, of Raven, Va., Cheryl Wenteler and husband, John, of Darlington, S.C.; one sister: Virginia Phipps of Jewell Ridge, Va.; two brothers: Linkous Whited and wife, Bea, of Honaker, Va., Hubert Whited and wife, Ella, of Bucyrus, Ohio; two grandchildren: Nicole Cook and husband, Jason, of Honaker, Va., and Shawn Stinson of Raven, Va.; two step grandchildren: Stephanie Adams and husband, John, of Lebanon, Va., and Jennifer Wenteler of Darlington, S.C.; three step great grandchildren; nephews: Stewart Phipps, Jr., David Phipps, Mike Whited, and Vincen Whited. Funeral services for McKinley "Toots" Whited were conducted Sat., Jan. 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Mike Altizer and Rev. Hursel N. Wiggins NORFOLK - The Rev. Dr. Hursel N. Wiggins, 82, a native of Snowhill, N.C., went home to be with the Lord Jan. 22, 2009. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an North Carolina A&T State University Tidewater Alumni where he obtained his bachelor's degree. He received his doctorate from United College Christian. The Rev. Dr. Wiggins retired from NADEP in Norfolk as a project manager engineer and was also president of Local 22 AFGE. He belonged to the Saint John's Masonic Lodge No. 12 and the Khalif No. 144 Shriner's Lodge in Greensboro, N.C., where he served as an Honorary 33rd Degree. Most importantly, he was ordained as a minister at Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member; and he broadcasted his radio ministry on 1270 AM WTJZ every Sunday morning. The Rev. Dr. Wiggins was predeceased by his parents, David and Eunice Wiggins; two brothers, Phillip and George Wiggins; and three sisters, Enishel Brown, Beatrice Allen and Essie Tripp. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth; his daughter, Patricia White and her husband Jimmy; three grandchildren, Chantelle, Charmaine and Lil Jimmy; one sister, Bessie Wallace; and a host of other family members and friends. A celebration of life for the Rev. Dr. Wiggins will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, 1057 Kennedy St., Norfolk, with Pastor Murphy officiating. Lewis Franklin Wilson Sr., 67, of Crockett died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at his residence. Funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Bell officiating. Interment will be in the West End Cemetery. He was born March 19, 1941, in Rural Retreat, son of the late Maiden L. and Helen Earls Wilson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. Bobby Ray Woody, 71, of Rocky Gap died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009. Funeral service was held Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m. at the Bluefield Church of God with the Revs. Danny Scott, Phil Akers and Paul Looney officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, W.Va., with the West Virginia Honor Guard and Bluefield VFW Post 9696 conducting graveside military rites. A Masonic memorial service was held Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 7:30 p.m. by the Elbert Munsey Lodge 298 AF & AM which also conducted Masonic graveside rites. He was a devoted Christian whose final wish was for deliverance home. He was a member of the Church of God on Cumberland Road in Bluefield, W.Va. He served his country as an MP in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Tazewell County VFW. He was a member of the Veterans Memorial Park Committee of Bland County. He was retired from JW&L Enterprises where he was a supervisor. He was a founding member of the Bland County Rescue Squad and served as captain for five years. He was president of the Local Union 1626 District 29 UMWA for 13 years. He was president of the Lions Club for 10 years and was a member of the Moose Lodge for 20 years. He owned his own construction company, East River Construction, where he operated as both a speculative and operative mason. His rock work was renowned for its quality and craftsmanship. He was a member of the Elbert Muncy Masonic Lodge 298 in Rocky Gap. He also assisted his wife with her many business ventures including Mary's Drive In atop East River Mountain in the 1970s and later Woody's convenience store in Rocky Gap. Together they worked side-by-side for 37 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Vinnie Dot Woody of Rocky Gap; and a brother, Olden Brown "O.B." Woody. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Mary E. Woody of Rocky Gap; daughter and son-in-law, Dreama and Kerry Gammon of Rocky Gap; the pride and joy of his world, his grandchildren, Eric Thompson and fiancée, Amanda Staples, and Shala Gammon; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond L. and Virginia Woody of Rocky Gap, Sherman Woody of Rich Creek, Watha F. and Brenda Woody of Rocky Gap; a sister, Phyllis Looney and Homer Mullins of Rocky Gap; a sister-in-law, Euva L. Samuel Paul Wray RICHMOND - Samuel Paul Wray, 30, born May 28, 1978, in Portsmouth, passed away Jan. 18, 2009, in Ripley, W.Va., as the result of an automobile accident. He was formerly of Richmond, Va., and was in transition to reside in Columbus, Ohio. Sam was a U.S. Navy veteran, served a tour in Iraq and received an honorable discharge and the Navy Commendation Medal. He graduated in 2007 from Averett University in business management and also attended Master's Commission in Hampton, Va., circa 1999. Sam loved music, surfing, travel, his family and his Lord Jesus Christ. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Mary Ann Wray of Pickerington, Ohio; sister, Lisa Wray of Richmond, Va.; an uncle, Jeff Wray; 12-year-old niece, Shanna and 6-year-old nephew, Agzhaun Wray. A funeral was held Friday with Pastor Les Bowling, and interment followed at Violet Cemetery in Pickerington, Ohio. YARHOUSE, Joseph A., age 83, of Richmond, died January 23, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Eunice, was the eldest son of the late Aaron and Bessie Yarhouse; a brother Aaron Jr.; and a sister Ruth Hart. He is survived by two daughters, Linda Hall and her husband, Rolly, and Brenda Hite and her husband, Frank; a son, Richard Yarhouse; two granddaughters, Jennifer Harton and Chrissie Callis; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Brown and Betty Templeton; and a brother, Herbert Yarhouse. Mr. Yarhouse was a Naval veteran of WWII. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family. His remains rest at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, and where funeral services will be held 12 noon Monday.
