Ms. Wanda T Allen, 40, of 201 S. Fifth Street, Hopewell, departed this life Thursday, Jan. 15 at John Randolph Medical Center. Wanda was the daughter of the late Ethel Allen and Paul Dunston Sr. She was the youngest of 14 siblings and raised by Ida Mae Hall and the late Jeffrey Hall. She was preceded in death her grandparents, Mamie and Benjamin Daniels, Lucinda and Robert Allen. ARNOLD, Harry Baker, 74, of Glen Allen, passed away January 16, 2009. He was born in Richmond, Va. on March 7, 1934. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry B. Arnold Sr. and Alice A. McKenzie; and a brother, Robert E. McKenzie. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife 54 years, Frances Newcomb Arnold; his daughters, Cathy Arnold Heizer (Paul "Opie") and Pamela Arnold Peyton (Randy); his grandchildren, Paul Heizer Jr. (Elizabeth), Brett Heizer (Ryan), Meredith Heizer, Frances Peyton, Carilynn Peyton; and his aunt, Gladys T. Faison. Harry retired from the United States Naval Reserve after 26 years of service. He started his own construction company Commercial Plastering and Drywall Inc. in 1979 and a few years later expanded his business to include Commercial Acoustical Ceilings. He retired from both companies in 2000. He was a member of the Glen Allen Masonic Lodge #131, Scottish Rite and Acca Temples, where he was a Captain with the Arab Patrol in 1991. He was a founding member of H.E.L.P. Charities, which is a local charity that helps children with various disabilities. He was also a member of Chamberlayne Baptist Church. Jan 18, 2009 Aurelia Ann Webb Fields, 71, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. She was born in Franklin County on Oct. 20, 1937, to David Chitwood and Della Rigney Chitwood Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Webb. She had worked for Bassett Chair Co. Surviving are her husband, Franklin Fields of the home; three sons, Ronald Webb of Henry, Allen Webb of Figsboro and Larry Webb of Franklin County; a daughter, Dena Jefferson of Franklin County; a step-daughter, Peggy Fields; three brothers, Carl Chitwood of Akron, Ohio, Jewell Chitwood and Euell Chitwood, both of Franklin County; a sister, Nadine Goode of Franklin County; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Robert Keith Baker NORFOLK - U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Robert Keith Baker, 41, passed away in Fort Polk, La. He was born in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital in Norfolk, Aug. 31, 1967. He graduated from Norview High School in Norfolk in 1986. He entered the Army in 1992 at the age of 24 and completed Basic Training at Fort Sill, Okla. He had subsequent assignments in Germany, Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Knox, Ky., Korea, and Fort Bragg, N.C. He culminated his superb military career with the assignment he was most proud of at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, La. In his final position as the signal section chief in the Plans Division he greatly contributed to the combat preparation of 20 brigades who successfully deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. While at Fort Polk he was promoted to his final rank of staff sergeant. He was survived by his wife, Susan and daughter, Olivia. He is also survived by his father, Keith; stepmother, Joanne; brother, Ronnie and sister-in-law Jane. He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise M. Baker. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, with CH (MAJ) Steve Peck officiating. Retired Staff Sgt. George "Mike" Brown, 76, of 2337 Dupuy Road, Petersburg, entered eternal peace and rest on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at Chippenham Medical Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Nellie Savage Brown, his parents, Pearl B. and Robert C. Bland and grandson Michael W. Brown, Jr. George (Mike) was born July 12, 1932, to Pearl B. and Robert C. Bland in Petersburg. He attended Petersburg Public Schools (Henry Williams Jr. High and Peabody High School). Upon completion, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, retiring after 26 years of service. He returned to Petersburg in 1968, working briefly at Brown and Williamson Tobacco Factory. Upon its closing, he gave excellent service to individuals housed in the Crater Detention Juvenile Home from which he received his second retirement after 17 years. George was baptized and became a member of Bethany Baptist Church at an early age. Later he joined Faith United Baptist Church and was ordained as a Deacon under the pastorate of the Rev. Dr. Mary Bonner. George also, attended Shiloh Temple in Ettrick where he sang with the G.L. Wilson Chorus. In 1997, George formally joined the Metropolitan Baptist Church. He was a very dedicated member and served faithfully in several organizations, among them, the Deacon Board, Male Chorus, Senior Citizens Ministry and Good Fellowship Birthday Club. He was a former member of the Soul Stirrers Gospel Singers, the Metropolitan Sanctuary Choir and the Sunday Morning Praise Team. He was an energetic member of the Oaklawn Bowl (mix bowling league) known for his "strikes" with the Family Affair Team. George's (Mike) loving and precious memories will always remain with his daughters, Jamie and Laverne Brown of Petersburg; sons, retired Staff Sgt. Michael W. CAPPS, Jack Carl Sr., of Richmond, was united in Heaven with his loving wife of 64 years, Margaret Carol Capps, on Thursday, January 15, 2008. Mr. Capps was a retired Senior Executive from Mutual Insurers Inc. He is survived by his three sons, Richard Capps and wife, Kathryn, Jack Capps Jr. and wife, Gay, Bart Capps and wife, Teri, all of Richmond; and daughter, Lynn Florence and husband, Mark, of Warrenton, Va; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, J. Russell Capps of Raleigh, N.C. As per his wishes, a memorial service will be held for the immediate family at Arlington National Cemetery. A member of The Greatest Generation and a veteran of World War II, Mr. Capps was permanently disabled and received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the invasion of Southern France August 15, 1944, when his ship was destroyed by a German buzz bomb. He always viewed these circumstances as a blessing in disguise for it was during his two year convalescence at the U.S. Naval Hospital in St. Albans, N.Y. that he met the love of his life, Margaret Carol Mellilo. Jan 18, 2009 Retired Baptist minister Daniel C. "Neil" Craig, 87, of 234 Anthony Drive, Patrick Springs, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2009. He was born in Patrick County on April 30, 1921, to Flem D. Craig and Queenie Hancock Craig. They preceded him in death. He graduated from Hardin Reynolds Memorial High School in Critz in 1940. He was a World War II veteran who served four years in the Army in the Medical Department of the 388th Anti-Aircraft Battalion. Afterward, he owned and operated a retail mercantile business at Sanville. When he entered the ministry, he sold his business and enrolled in Bluefield College and then Lynchburg College, where he received a bachelor's degree. He then attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest, N.C., where he received a bachelor of divinity degree. In 1954 he was ordained by Pleasant View Baptist Church in Patrick County. Craig served as pastor of Flint Hill Baptist Church in Moneta, Timber Ridge Baptist Church in Bedford, Vesuvius (Va.) Baptist Church, Jefferson Street Baptist and North Roanoke Baptist Church in Roanoke, Mt. Harmony Baptist Church in Roxboro, N.C., and Kent and Whitehall Baptist churches in Maryland. He also served on the Virginia Baptist Mission Board, the Maryland Baptist State Board and the Baptist Convention Cooperation Committee. He was moderator of the Prince George's Baptist Association in Maryland from 1982-84. Craig retired from the pastorate of Whitehall Baptist Church in June 1985 and returned to Patrick County. He continued to serve at area churches and interim pastorates at Blackberry, Chatmoss, Fontaine, Critz, Grace and Lone Oak Baptist churches. In 1994 and 1995, he and his wife traveled to Brazil where he preached and they visited Southern Baptist mission work. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Bryant Craig; two daughters, Linda Kennedy of Danville and Darlene McNeill of Bassett; four grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence Craig and Wayne Craig, both of Patrick Springs; and four sisters, Lera Washburn of Bassett, Vivian Ratliffe and Viola Vorhees, both of Patrick Springs, and Hazel Wright of Martinsville. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today at Pleasant View Baptist Church at Patrick Springs with the Rev. Rick Anderson and Dr. Joseph McNeill officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She was born in Nvo Linares, Coah, Mexico, on Feb. 27, 1924, to Reducindo and Agustina Mendoza. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymundo Lopez; a son, a daughter, two sisters and a brother. Surviving are five daughters, Martha De Santiago of Juárel, Mexico, Amalia Ramirez of El Paso, Raquel Curiel of Los Angeles, Calif., Esperanza López of Juarez, Mexico, and Caridad López of El Paso; sons, Joel López of El Paso, Juan Pablo "J.P." López of Axton, and Arturo and Moises López of Juarez; sisters, Elisa Ramos of Torreon, Mexico, Esperanza Ceballos of Juarez and Carmela Mondoza of Torreon; a brother, Reducindo Mendoza of Mexico; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. . He graduated from Winchester Community College with degrees in masonry and electrical engineering. He was a member of the telephone pioneers. Willard served as deacon and Sunday school superintendent at the Calvary Baptist Church in Winchester, Va., serving for many years. He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be missed by all who knew him. Willard enjoyed spending the winter months in sunny Florida and summers in Winchester. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bertha of Winchester; his son, Chet and his girlfriend Liz Hopkins of Norfolk; also surviving are his sister, Mary Alice Hodge of Chesapeake; his brother, Joe and his wife Connie Flemming of Chesapeake; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Jolliff of Newport News. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews who brought much joy to his life. The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. The Rev. Zack Deal will officiate. GUNN, Charles W. Jr. "Bunny", went home to be with the Lord at sunset on Tuesday, January 13, 2009. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Wilson Sheffield of Crewe. He will be greatly missed by his children, Charles W. Gunn III and his wife, Beverly, of Hopewell, and Annhorner Truitt and her husband, Craig, of Richmond. He is also survived by his sister, Lois Cotten and her family of Tallahassee, Florida. He was born July 31, 1922 in Tallahassee, Florida. At an early age, his sister called him "Bunny". This term of endearment has followed him since. His career began by selling pecans from his parents' trees and working as a teenage "extra" in Johnny Weissmuller's Tarzan films. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII where he fought in the North Atlantic, Caribbean and South Pacific. He attended John B. Stetson University and Florida State University. He began working for "the telephone company" in Florida, then was transferred to South Boston, Va. and ultimately to Lexington. He worked there until he earned his law degree from Washington and Lee University in 1958. He settled with his family in Lexington where he established a law practice. From 1962-63, he was a judge in Buena Vista Municipal Court. "Bunny" Gunn was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, representing Lexington, Buena Vista, Bedford and Rocky Mount, and the counties of Rockbridge, Bedford and Franklin from 1963 to 1978. During his tenure, he served on the Appropriations, Health Welfare and Institutions, Roads and Internal Navigation Committees, and chaired the Conservation and Natural Resources Committee. In 1979, he was named Director of Administrative Services for the Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. After his retirement, he was appointed member of the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services Board. He was a faithful champion of the physically and mentally disabled, devoting his life to "walking his talk" both publically and privately. He was humbled to be recognized by the Virginia Association for Retarded Children for "outstanding efforts to guarantee basic human rights for all" and the Virginia Association for Mental Health for "courageous service to the mentally ill". He served in numerous church and civic leadership positions including being president of the Lexington-Rockbridge Chamber of Commerce, the Lexington Lifesaving and First Aid Crew, Jaycees, and the Rockbridge County-Buena Vista Bar Association. He was a Member of Council of Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Bar Association, the American Legion, and the Hickory Hill Gun Club. He chaired the Board of Stewards of Trinity United Methodist Church, was president of Methodist Men, and chairman of the pastoral committee. He taught Sunday School for 20 years and loved serving as a substitute "itinerant lay preacher" at numerous small churches. For over a decade, he was an enthusiastic member of a small group through Needle's Eye Ministries, and, more recently, a joyful member of Third Presbyterian Church in Richmond. He was a proud member of the Richmond Chapter/ U.S. Navy, Armed Guard and U.S. Merchant Marine. Throughout life, he worked to demonstrate his love for the Lord, for his family, neighbors and others. He had a kind heart for the hurting, a courageous voice for those who could not be heard, a determination to always do the right thing, and a gracious smile for all. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, at Third Presbyterian Church, 600 Forest Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23226. Martha was born September 15, 1915 in Gurley, Ala., daughter of the late Emmett and Eula Eustace. She spent most of her adult life as a resident of Chesterfield County, Va., and retired from Miller & Rhoads with over 20 years of service, primarily representing the Elizabeth Arden cosmetic line. She loved her work and many lasting friendships that she made there. She was a longtime member of Sherbourne United Methodist Church in Richmond, Va. She became a resident of Bay Lake Retirement and Assisted Living in Virginia Beach, Va., in 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James Curtis Haislip; sisters, Cleo Styles and Virginia Finley. She is survived by her son, Joe, and daughter-in-law, Connie Haislip of Virginia Beach, Va.; brother, Russell Eustace of Richmond, Va.; brother, Ralph and his spouse, Linda Eustace, of Hollytree, Ala.; grandson, Mark Haislip of Virginia Beach. Jan 18, 2009 James Monroe Wilson, 77, of 1030 Barker Road, Axton, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. He was born in Henry County on July 25, 1931, to Danny Monroe Wilson Jr. and Ora Minter Wilson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Lee Wilson. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from V.M. Draper Manufacturing after 47 years as a machine operator. He attended Mount Calvary Church in Axton. Surviving are his wife, Alene Clark Wilson of the home; two daughters, Brenda W. McDaniel of Cascade and Wendy W. Hutchens of Archdale, N.C.; two sisters, Marie Wilson Tatum and Evelyn W. Herndon, both of Axton; two brothers, Garland Wilson and Claude Wilson, both of Axton; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mount Calvary Church with Pastor Gary Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park. Jan 18, 2009 John B. Harris Jr., 75, of Fieldale, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at his home. He was born in Bassett on Dec. 31, 1933, to John B. Harris Sr. and Virginia Via Harris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son. Harris served in the Army, worked at Bassett Mirror Co. and retired from DuPont. He was a mentor in the Henry County Public Schools and he was a member of Oak Hill Cathedral of Glory. Surviving are his wife, Annie G. Harris of the home; two daughters, Andrea H. Hairston of Collinsville and Johnsey Brucene H. Wimbush of the home; a sister, Virginia H. Price of Bassett; a brother, Peter C.M. Harris of Martinsville; one aunt; and nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Cathedral of Glory with Minister Curtis Price and Pastor Todd Foster officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park. LLOYD, William Lacy, 79, of Richmond, formerly of Halifax County, died January 16, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Carmen; a daughter, Carolyn Jewell (Jimmy); two granddaughters, Jennifer (Adrian) Navarro, who are expecting his first great-grandchild in July, and Stephanie (Jason) Hardy. He was of a family of seven brothers and five sisters. Aubrey Lee Lucas of Colonial Heights, Va., born on Dec. 22, 1926, died from heart failure on Jan. 11, 2009. He was the son of James Wiley Lucas and Kate Lee Lucas of Petersburg, Va. Mr. Lucas grew up in Petersburg, where he graduated from Petersburg High School in 1943. During his time as a young student, he was both an Eagle Scout and Scout leader. Mr. Lucas had a long and distinguished career in the military. After high school, he went to the Pennsylvania Military Academy, and was in the Army, active duty, from 1944 to 1946. He began his service as a recruit at Fort Knox, Ky., and then served in Korea with the first U.S. occupation forces. Mr. Lucas then joined the Army Reserves. He worked at Camp Pickett, where he was a sergeant first class. After receiving both a bachelor's and a master's degree from Richmond Professional Institute (now Virginia Commonwealth University), he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Reserves. As a Reservist, Mr. Lucas attended the U.S. Command General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., where he was in the top 20 percent of his class. During the Vietnam War he served in Battalion 53 at the reserve center at Hickory Hill, Fort Lee, at a time when the military needed experienced officers stateside. He retired from the reserves in 1972 as a lieutenant colonel. Throughout his life; Mr. Lucas also served the state of Virginia and the city of Colonial Heights. In 1960, the Junior Chamber of Commerce (the Jaycees) named Mr. Lucas "Outstanding Young Man of the Year in Colonial Heights." He also served as president of the Jaycees. Mr. Lucas then sat on the Colonial Heights City Council from 1960 to 1968. From 1964 to 1968, Mr. Lucas was the mayor of Colonial Heights. From 1972 to 1992, Mr. Lucas worked for the state of Virginia in the Department of Mental Health and Mental Hygiene. In addition, Mr. Lucas taught Business Management and Accounting at RPI for five years. Mr. Lucas was also an active member in many local organizations, including The American Legion Post 284, POGO (Petersburg Old Geezer Organization), The Reserve Officer's Association, The VFW of Chester, and the Petersburg YMCA. He was also a member and past Sunday School Teacher at Highland Methodist Church. Mr. Lucas is survived by his wife of 61 years, Charlotte Cottrell Lucas; a brother-in-law, Carl Cottrell; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Lewis; nephew, Frank O. Simmons; niece, Susan S. Dahlie; two great-nephews and three great-nieces. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army. The service will be private. He is survived by his wife, Donna; his son, Ted and his wife, Marina Ooghe, of Portland, Ore.; three daughters and their husbands, Carol and Rick Smallwood of Powder Springs, Ga., Marie and Bill Peters of Chesterfield, Va., Angela and Pete Rodriguez of Miami, Fla.; also eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother Dr. Robert B. Ooghe of Charlottesville, Va. Mr. Ooghe was a Richmond elementary school principal and television science teacher from 1960 to 1972. His honors include television science program (grades four to seven) syndicated in 19 states that won a national media award (1967). He was president, Richmond Education Association (1968-1969), Board of Directors Virginia Education Association (1970-1971), President Richmond Association of Principals (1971-1972), Administrator of the Year-Richmond Public Schools (1985). Ed's interests that was very dear to him was his family and friends, education, travel, gardening, sports, music, reading, theater concerts, church (River Road Church Baptist) and the University of Virginia. RATH, Joyce Aveilh‚, died on January 10, 2009 at the Emeritus Assisted Living facility in Richmond, Va. She was born on November 8, 1914 in Corpus Christi, Texas, and lived most of her life in Northern Virginia. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert G. Rath. In later years, both resided in Chancellor's Village in Fredericksburg and Emeritus at Deep Run in Richmond. After her husband's retirement from the federal government, the couple traveled extensively and enjoyed spending time with their family, which included two daughters, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Throughout her life, Joyce enjoyed a love of flowers, which she shared through gardening and flower arranging. Joyce touched many lives with her humor, kindness, generosity and gentle spirit. Joyce Rath is survived by her daughters, Janet R. Hutchinson of Richmond and Nancy R. Roberts VIRGINIA BEACH - Mary Cecile Tate Roberts, born Nov. 23, 1951, a native of Mobile, Ala., but longtime resident of Virginia Beach, departed this life Jan. 12, 2009, in a local hospital. She was a devoted wife and mother. Mrs. Roberts was a faithful member of Christ the King Church prior to the onset of her illness. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence (Aline) Tate; loving sisters, Dorothy Tate Martin and Dolores Tate. She leaves to cherish her memory a husband, Richard David Roberts Jr.; three children, Richard David Roberts III, Aline Regina Roberts and Mary Anne Roberts of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Linda Chatman Shade, Rose Easterling and Felicia Tate, all of Mobile; 17 nieces and nephews; a host of great-nieces and -nephews, family and friends. Viewing will be Monday from noon to 5 p.m. at Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St., Norfolk. David French Sauer was born in Richmond, Va., on Nov. 21, 1929. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Richmond Professional Institute (now Virginia Commonwealth University) and his Master of Finer Arts degree from Columbia University in New York. He also did further post-graduate study at Columbia in Oriental Art History under Jane Gaston Mahler, specializing in Southern Sung painting. After a year abroad in Europe, studying in Perugia and Florence, he returned to Richmond to begin a teaching career at VCU in painting. At the age of 16, he received the distinction of being the youngest exhibitor to be admitted to a national art exhibition with his painting titled, "Still Life Number 14," which was included in the Fifth Biennial of Contemporary American Painting at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. During his 60 years as a painter, he exhibited in New York City, Atlanta, Richmond, North Carolina, Virginia Beach, Norfolk and San Francisco. A number of his works were included in the Duncan Phillips collection in Washington, D.C. A review of his paintings from the Herald Tribune in 1954 aptly commented that "his colors are bold, his forms big and free, but they still depict (in a manner which suggests Bonnard with Benzedrine) flowers, landscapes, rooms, fruit — all the things that speak of the joy of living." Photography captured his interest in the 1970s and he studied the Zone System with Ansel Adams at the Yosemite Workshop Series and added the Zone System class to his teaching responsibilities in the Photography Department at VCU. He died peacefully in his home on Jan. 12. David is survived by his wife, Deborah; and his two brothers, Conrad F. Sauer III and T.E.A. Sauer of Richmond, Va. SOUTHALL, Jaqueline Fore, 73, of Farmville, died Friday, January 16, 2009 in Lynchburg. She was born in Farmville, June 20, 1936, the daughter of the late Jack and Beulah Banton Fore. She was retired from Prince Edward Academy (The Fuqua School), where she taught physical education and driver's education and coached for over 40 years. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Grant and husband, Stewart of Farmville; two grandchildren, Laykin B. Marian C. Stucker VIRGINIA BEACH - Marian Collins Stucker, 90, of the 1000 block of Elysian Place in Chesapeake, died Dec. 24, 2008. Marian, the daughter of the late Louis R. Collins and Emily Harvey Collins, was born March 21, 1918, in Laconia, N.H. She was a member of the Laconia Congregational Church (UCC) for many years. Marian was a graduate of Plymouth State University, N.H., and earned her master's degree in library science from UNH and in media from Boston University. She was a high school teacher and girls' basketball coach in Warner and Plymouth high schools. She left teaching to enlist in the WACS (World War II), where she met her husband, Francis J. Stucker II, and was married in uniform at the Army Air Force base outside of Nashville, Tenn. In later years, she returned to teaching high school English as well as being the librarian in Tilton and Laconia schools. Following the death of her husband in 1970, she was a supervisor for adjudicating Social Security Disability claims in Concord, N.H., Roanoke, Va., and for 10 years in Boston. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three sisters, Louise, Emily and Florence. She is survived by her son, F. Joseph III and his wife Jacqueline of Guangzhou, China; daughter, Jane of Chesapeake; two grandsons, Derek and his wife Jennifer of Franklin, Tenn., and Kirk of Koh Samui, Thailand; and one great-granddaughter, Taylor of Franklin, Tenn. In 1999, Marian moved from Keene, N.H., to Branchlands Retirement Home in Charlottesville. She had since moved to Chesapeake where she lived with her daughter. A celebration of life ceremony will take place Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, 1485 Kempsville Road, in Virginia Beach. She was also the president and founding member of Chickahominy Medical Reserve Corp., a non-profit volunteer organization. Native of Philadelphia, she was a resident of Richmond, Va. since 1997. Jan 18, 2009 The funeral for William McKinley Thomas Jr., 56, of Collinsville, will be at noon Wednesday in the South Chapel of Bassett Funeral Service. Burial will be in the Thomas family cemetery. The family will receive friends for a half hour before the service. He died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Henry County on April 20, 1952, to William McKinley Thomas Sr. and Betty Ruth Yoakley Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Ann Gravely.
