Little Angels, When God calls little children, to dwell with him above, we mortals sometimes question, the wisdom of his love, for no heartache compares, with the death of one small child who does so much to make our world seem wonderful and mild., Perhaps God tires of calling, the aged to his fold, and so he picks a rosebud, before in can grow old., God knows how much we need them and so he takes but a few, to make the land of Heaven, more beautiful to view., Believing this is difficult still somehow we must try,, the saddest word mankind knows will always be "Goodbye", So when a little child departs,, we who are left behind must realize God loves children . . . angels are hard to find., Author Unknown

She was blessed to have very little pain, and was fully aware of her surroundings to the end. She faced her situation with amazing grace, strength, and dignity; her only worry was that she would be a bother to others. She will be sorely missed by her immediate family, Dean and Jan Riess; granddaughter and son-in-law, Deanne and Jay Lucas; granddaughter, Paula Sherwood; and greatgrandchildren, Sarah and Rachel Lucas, and Reese and Gabriel Sherwood. Her love and guidance will remain with us always. Irma was born November 14, 1911, to Charles and Mary Calvin in North English, Iowa. She graduated from North English High School in 1930, along with Layton Riess, whom she married in 1938. They were both victims of the Great Depression, and thus learned very well the principles of hard work and dedication. Irma briefly attended Iowa State Teachers College, and then taught in country schools (Boltz and Hawkeye-Dayton) for eight years. After her marriage to Layton, they farmed in the North English area, starting as tenants and finally owning their own farm until their retirement in 1977. Layton died in 1994, and Irma moved to Blacksburg in 1999, maintaining an independent residence until this past December. All through her life, Irma had a circle of devoted friends, which was shown through messages of tribute and love, especially on her 50th anniversary and in the past six months. Irma was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, John and Larry Calvin; and her sisters, Donna Osweiler and Myrna McHale. She is survived by Dean's family, her sister, Grace Walla of Calgary, Alberta, and numerous nieces and nephews.
