AMBROGI, Andrea Carol Brown, 53, of Ashland, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her mother, Jean M. Brown. She is survived by her parents, James T. and Gloria Brown; her former husband and best friend, Michael Ambrogi; a daughter, Niki Cowan (Jason) and their children, Julia, Ashton, Ainslie, and Ian Cowan; and a son, John T. Ambrogi (Rebecca) and their children, Reed and Samuel Ambrogi. She is also survived by a sister, Danita Tiller (David); a brother, J. David Brown (Donna); her stepsiblings, Ann Ogden, Blair, Robert, Susan, and Amy Gardner; numerous nieces and nephews; and a devoted friend, Wayne Panton. Andrea worked for many years for Meade & Company in Ashland. A Christian lady, she was dedicated to her children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 4 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Nelsen Funeral Home - Reid Chapel, 412 S. Oct 3, 2010 MCLEAN — Betty Sue Hurd, 67, died Sept. 24, 2010, of complications from Pick's disease. She was born in Martinsville on April 16, 1943, to Faye Atkins Hurd and Tillman Monroe Hurd. Her parents preceded her in death. She graduated from Martinsville High School in 1962 and from James Madison College in 1966. She taught art for more than 30 years in the Fairfax and Arlington school districts in Northern Virginia. BURNETT, Clem Fitch Jr., M.D., of Mayfield, Ky., formerly of Richmond passed away on October 1, 2010. Born January 10, 1924, Dr. Burnett graduated from John Marshall High School (Class of '41), the University of Richmond and the Medical College of Virginia (Class of '47 - Navy V-12). He served in the U.S. Navy as a doctor and surgeon in Norfolk and Stuttgart, Germany, and took post-doctorate studies at Lahey Clinic and the Mayo Clinic before settling in Mayfield. He is survived by his eldest son, Bradford Fitch Burnett (Jean) of Richmond. Also surviving are his wife, Evelyn N. Burnett; sons, Dr. Eric A. Burnett (Jane) of Lexington, Ky. and Brian T. Burnett (Neal Ann); and a daughter, Dr. Ellen M. Burnett, both of Mayfield, Ky.; and sisters, Katherine B. Kenworthy of Fountain View, Calif. and Nell B. Shelton of Mechanicsville. Dr. Burnett was an elder in the Presbyterian Church, a 50-year Mason, served multiple terms as president of his Rotary Club, and was a member of the American College of Cardiologists. He was also very much a philanthropist in the Mayfield community and highly respected by all who knew him. He often mentioned his Richmond friends and classmates, especially after retirement. Oct 3, 2010 Daniel Curtis Minter, 91, of 3181 Mosco Road, Axton, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at his home. He was born in Henry County on Nov. 9, 1918, to Tommie Joe and Myrtle Dora Bray Minter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Cynthia Hagwood and Michael Caldwell; four brothers, Glen, Grover, Walter and Mitchell Minter; and one sister, Gertrude Sage. He retired from Dan River Mills with more than 40 years of service. He was a farmer and a produce distribution entrepreneur. He was a member of Axton Baptist Church for more than 54 years and had served as a deacon and on the building and grounds, finance and fund raising committees. Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Mildred Louise Minter of the home; seven daughters, Nancy Haynes and Patricia Lawton of Axton, Julia Crews of Mountain Valley, Shirley Massey of Chapel Hill, N.C., Myrtle Waugh of Roanoke, Cherry Minter of Ridgeway and Vickie Walter of Danville; one brother, Clifton Minter of Axton; two sisters, Nancy Inman of Danville and Irene Powell of Reidsvile, N.C.; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. DUMVILLE, David Milton, M.D., Richmond physician, passed away on September 30, 2010. He was the son of the late Rev. Samuel Lawrence Dumville and Nettie Hall Dumville and was born in Richmond, Va., on March 17, 1922. Dr. Dumville practiced cardiology and internal medicine on Monument Avenue in Richmond from 1951 until he retired in 1995. His entire career was devoted to medicine and the care of his patients. He got to know all of his patients and their families, jobs and hobbies. He viewed this information as important in understanding his patients' lifestyles and devolving a relationship in order to provide the best diagnosis and treatments. Dr. Dumville attended the University or Richmond and received his B.S. Degree from Lynchburg College. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1946, internal medicine degree from Charity Hospital in New Orleans while in the U.S. Army, and fellowship from The American College of Physicians and Fellow of The American College of Cardiology. Dr. Dumville served in the U.S. Public Health Service stationed in New Orleans, where he was affiliated with Tulane University as a professor, Louisiana State University and was the medical director at Delgardo Hospital. Upon returning to Richmond in 1950, Dr. Dumville completed his cardiology training at McGuire Veterans Hospital and the Medical College of Virginia. Board certified in cardiology and internal medicine, he formed his solo medical practice. He also served as an associate professor at the Medical College of Virginia, where he was a mentor for people entering into the field of medicine for over 20 years. He took great pride in serving as Chief of Medicine at The Retreat Hospital and was instrumental in establishing its intensive care and cardiology units. He was a member of the College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians, Virginia Medical Society and Richmond Academy of Medicine. Dr. Dumville was an avid angler and a member of the Virginia Angler Club, where he was recognized for receiving many citations and awards as an outstanding fisherman. He was a founding member of Willow Oaks Country Club, where he enjoyed his tennis and golfing and served as the chairman of the building committee for the club's fitness center. He also enjoyed attending The Richmond Symphony and Richmond Opera. Dr. Dumville was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Samuel Hall Dumville. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy "Dot" Watts Dumville; his four children, Carolyn Dumville Robinson and her husband, Dr. James Forrest Robinson, Samuel Lawrence Dumville and wife, Frances Adair Dumville, Diane Dumville Maddra, and David Milton Dumville Jr.; his grandchildren, Heather Robinson Laskin and her husband, Glenn Jeffrey Laskin, Kaitlyn Michelle Maddra, Robert Austin Dumville and Thomas Edward Dumville; great-granddaughters, Olivia Anne Laskin and Caroline Alise Laskin; nephew, Samuel Miles Dumville and his wife, Stephanie Simpson Dumville; and great-nephew, Miles Ashton Dumville. The family would like to thank his physicians, caregivers and the staff at Lakewood Manor for their kindness. Eben Elliott Smith Jr., 84, died peacefully on Monday, September 27, 2010, at Hospice House in Charlottesville, Virginia., He was born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 16, 1926, to Eben Elliott Smith Sr. and Priscilla Dimick Crosby., Eben lived with his younger sister, Priscilla "Suki" Christoffers, and his parents in San Diego, Los Angeles, Providence, Jacksonville and Washington, D.C. He attended St. Albans School., In 1944 he enlisted and served in the Philippines in the 632nd Tank Destroyer Battalion, and upon returning attended Brown University under the G.I. bill, earning a B.S. in Geology., He worked in D.C. as a cartographer with the Army Map Service from 1953 until 1962, then as an analyst at the Foreign Science and Technology Center from 1962 until 1983, where he used his cartographic skills and his knowledge of Russian. When FSTC moved to Charlottesville in 1970, he followed with his family for what he called "the best years of my life." After taking early retirement from his career, he drove a Jaunt bus, making new friends while traversing the area, then collected gypsy moth data, trekking across the Albemarle County landscape., Over the years, Eben volunteered for numerous causes. In Northern Virginia he maintained trails through the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club and assisted the Greenbelt Consumers Cooperative and Northern Virginia Fair Housing. In Charlottesville he was an active member of the Temple Beth Israel buildings and grounds committee, helped with construction on the Sunday School, and participated in Hadassah activities. He assisted Meals on Wheels, relished being an Ivy Creek trail guide, served on the Board of Directors for Citizens for Albemarle, and was a Vice President in the National Railway Historical Society. Since 2003 he has been an active member of the Unity Church. One of his most significant contributions has been to the Rivanna Trails Foundation, where he served as a founding member of the board since 1992, creating maps and historical records and helping build the loop trail around Charlottesville., Eben met Martha Florence Rozman at Army Map Service, they married on September 1, 1957, and supported each other until her death on January 18, 2003., He is survived by three children and their spouses, Gary Michael Smith and Debbie Smith, Gayla Michelle Mills and Eugene Mills, and Gregory Mitchell Smith and Erika Herz; four grandchildren, Justin and Talia Smith, and Cole and Kienan Smith; and a great- grandson, Leo Smith. Dr. Elisabeth "Lisa" Glaser, psychotherapist and historian, died on Thursday, September 23, 2010, after a long struggle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis., Ms. Glaser was born on June 28, 1954, in Cologne, Germany. She received the Dr. Phil. degree at the University of Cologne in 1984 and served as assistant professor of history in the Anglo-American Seminar there from 1984 until 1990. During that era, Cologne figured as the most important locus for American studies in the Federal Republic. Ms. Glaser taught a wide palette of courses, not only in her specialty, United States foreign relations, but also on economic affairs, immigration, and constitutional history., Ms. Glaser served as Senior Fellow at the German Historical Institute in Washington from 1991 until 1996 and also taught German history at Georgetown. She published her first book, on United States conquest and administration of the Philippines, in 1986. At the GHI she convened numerous international conferences and edited four additional books on German emigres and American political thought, transatlantic images and perceptions, American exceptionalism, and the Treaty of Versailles. The last-named work, for which she brought together the leading world experts on the end of World War I, remains the definitive work in the field., Ms. Glaser also wrote 20 scholarly articles on subjects ranging from foreign trade, Chilean monetary policy, and J.P. Morgan & Company to Leo Strauss and Heinz Kohut., While continuing her research on emigration from Nazi Central Europe, Ms. Glaser embarked on a second career as a psychotherapist in 1997 after settling permanently in Charlottesville. She graduated from the psychoanalytic psychotherapy training program at the Washington Psychoanalytic Foundation and became an advanced candidate at the New York Freudian Society., She maintained a private practice in both Charlottesville and Richmond and developed a particular expertise in multiple personality disorder. Ever ready to put others first and astonishingly modest about her own accomplishments, she juggled two careers with aplomb, taught graduate courses on European history with her husband, and lavished attention on her two beloved stepchildren., Ms. Glaser bore her affliction with ALS with characteristic sweetness, dignity, and courage. She continued seeing patients and writing until weeks before her death., She leaves her husband, Stephen Schuker, a history professor at the University of Virginia; her stepchildren, Lauren Schuker of Los Angeles and Daniel Schuker of New Haven; two sisters and a brother-in-law; and four cherished nieces and nephews. |

W. Herbert Peake Jr. W. Herbert Peake Jr., of Roanoke, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at age 78. He was an active member of Green Memorial United Methodist Church since 1967, a former board member, and Sunday school class president. Mr. Peake attended Charlotte College (now UNCC) and served in the U.S. Army in the United States and Europe from 1953-55. He then attended University of South Carolina from 1956-58 and graduated with a B.A. in history, class of '58. He is a life member of the Carolina Alumni Association. Upon graduation, he sold industrial equipment in the Greensboro, N.C., area. In 1967, he moved to Roanoke to sell for Oakite Products, Inc., an industrial chemical/cleaner manufacturer. In the early 1990s, he retired and worked approximately 10 years for AML/Quest Labs. Mr. Peake was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Mary Peake, and two sisters, Evelyn Reid, of Mooresville, N.C., and Frances Pittman, of Charlotte, N.C. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Joann B. Peake; two sons, Walt Peake and his wife, Nancy, of Roanoke, and Mark Peake and his wife, Lila, of Lynchburg; eight grandchildren, Meredith, Kathleen and John J. Peake, of Roanoke, and Mark Jr., John R., Anderson and Lillie and Lauren Peake, of Lynchburg. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and one brother-in-law, Carl Reid, of Lake Norman, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Katherine Peters, and her husband, Eb, of Raleigh, N.C.; and brother-in-law, Joe Beatty, and his wife, Jane, of Greensboro, N.C. They were both in residence at that time at the Colonnades., Inez is survived by her nephew, Richard K. HOWELL, Jack George Jr., 72, passed away September 29, 2010. Born July 14, 1938, he was a lifelong resident of Richmond. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1957 and from Richmond Professional Institute in 1962. He spent his entire career as a sports coordinator, first for the Richmond Department of Recreation and Parks then for the Henrico Department of Recreation and Parks, where he retired in 2000. He also dedicated his time as an umpire for Amateur Softball Associations. He gave his time after retirement at Belmont Golf Course where he served as a starter. He was an avid golfer as anyone who knew him could attest and was a devoted sports fan, loyal to the Celtics, Red Sox and Redskins. He also was a fan of Godwin High School girls basketball. He is survived by his son, David W. Howell and his wife, Andrea; his daughter, Elizabeth H. Jensen; his granddaughter, Elizabeth A. Jensen; his grandson, Daniel P. Howell; and his brother, E. Wynne Howell; as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and extended family. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Betsy Campen Bierowski; and two sons, Ryan Edward Bierowski and wife, Laura, of Lynchburg, Va. and Jake Bierowski of St. Croix; and stepson, Marty York and family of Richmond, Va.; two grandchildren, Landon and Lahla Bierowski of Lynchburg, Va.; three brothers, John (Carolyn) Bierowski, Tom (Linda) Bierowski of Richmond, Va. and Joe (Aimee) Bierowski of Orange, Conn.; three sisters, Anne (Mike) Draper of Richmond, Va., Jody (Gillie) Jenkins of Montpelier, Va. and Judy Dickerson of Scottsdale, Ariz. Jim was born in Santa Cruz, Calif. and was the son of the late Joe and Margaret Bierowski. After graduating from Manchester High School in 1969, he joined the Marine Reserves. Jim worked for Commercial Steel, Inc., Lynchburg, Va., Williams Crane and Rigging and W.O. Grubb, Richmond, Va. before moving to St. Croix in 1989 where he worked at Vialco as a heavy equipment supervisor. Jim established Gallows Bay Frame in 1990, and was a generous supporter of the arts and artists for almost two decades. He sponsored art exhibits involving 15 public and private schools for almost five years. Jim showed his love for St. Croix by contributing to many local charities including the St. Croix Environmental Assoc., St. Croix Animal Shelter, St. Croix Foundation, Women's Coalition, St. George's Village Botanical Gardens, Caribbean Community Theatre, St. Croix Orchid Society, VIWMA, VI Dept. of Tourism and the Juan F. Luis Hospital. Jim's energy and dedication will be missed by his good friends especially Joe Deledera of Bedford, Va. and Chris Dagenhart of Christiansted, St. Croix and all the lives that he touched. He was born on Dec. 10, 1947, in Danville to William Theodore Raines and Ollie Brewer Raines. His parents preceded him in death. Raines graduated from Dan River High School. He retired from Bassett Superior Lines, where he worked in the crating department. He was a former member of Fairway Baptist Church. Surviving are five sisters, Evelyn Reed of Floyd, Barbara Hamlet of Danville, Jean Butts of Yanceyville, N.C., Joyce Hill of Powhatan and Vera Paschal of Bassett; one brother, William Harold Raines of Eden, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews. BURGESS, Julian Carrington, 74, of White Stone, died Friday, October 1, 2010. He was a member and deacon of Harmony Grove Baptist Church at Locust Hill, a commercial masonry contractor in Richmond for 37 years, member of Richmond Business Men's Association and Richmond Homebuilders Association. Mr. Burgess was president of the Tabbs Creek Civic Association for 15 years and served as chairman of the dredging committee for 16 years and also was a member of Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club. He was a member of the Antique Automobile Club and Model A Club, both of Richmond and a charter board member of the Steamboat Era Museum in Irvington. CRUMPTON, Reverend Kenneth Jr., entered Christ's kingdom on September 29, 2010 from Lakewood Manor, where he had resided for over eight years. He was born to Kenneth Crumpton Sr. and Grace Field Crumpton on May 13, 1926 in his grandparents' home on North Belmont Avenue in Richmond. He was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and a member of the Cadet Corps. After serving his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, he graduated from the University of Richmond. After graduating from the Lutheran Seminary at Mt. Airy in Philadelphia, he was ordained a Lutheran minister on May 18, 1952. He met his lovely wife, Katharine Templeton Moseley, while in seminary at a Valentine's Day dance. This was a special day for them, along with their anniversary which was September 27, 1952, throughout their 55 years of marriage. His wife preceded him in death in July of 2007. They had three children, Katharine Elizabeth Crumpton Shepherd of Richmond, Jonathan Mark of Richmond, and Kenneth Stephen (Raymunde) Crumpton of Westminster, Colo. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Sarah (Jason) Amiama, Christine (Dan) Carber, Mary Shepherd, Kathleen Crumpton, Stephanie Crumpton, Karen Crumpton, Marie Crumpton, and Michael Crumpton. He also rejoiced in his five great- grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Beverly (Carl A.) Springer; and two nephews, Carl and Chris Springer. In the service of the Lord, he was associate pastor of First Church in Norfolk, Va., and then Ascension Lutheran in Danville, Va. From there he served at St. Mark's in Charlottesville, Va. and St. John's in Norfolk, Va. He was also pastor of Christ Lutheran on Woodman Road in Henrico County before taking the position in New York City with the Board of Missions for North America of the Lutheran Church of America. Following the merger that created the ELCA, he retired to Richmond and continued to serve Christ and His church as interim pastor for several congregations as well as participating in the Order of St. Luke, an ecumenical healing order. He assisted with Thursday healing services at All Saints' Episcopal on River Road until his health declined. He was an avid fan of railroads and a member of the Railroad Historical Society. He had traveled by train across the U.S., Canada, and most of Europe, including a journey to Luther country in East Berlin. He had traveled in the Holy Land in conjunction with his ministerial work. He was a recipient of a Master's degree in Systematic Theology from Southern Seminary in Charleston, S.C., and a doctorate in Church History from the seminary in Richmond. A memorial service will be held on October 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church, 1603 Monument Ave., Richmond. Interment is private, but the family will receive friends at Lakewood Manor from 2 to 4 p.m. on October 9, 2010. In lieu of flowers, he requested donations be made to the building fund for First English's centennial renovation. The family expresses sincere appreciation to Lakewood Manor and Bon Secours Hospice for exemplary care. His witness continues in those who loved him as his whole life was a life of service to Christ. |

Lauren Wyatt Cooper Lauren Wyatt Cooper, age 56, passed away on Oct. 1, 2010, at Wellmont Hospice House. A daughter of the late Irwin Basil Wyatt Sr. and Leona B. Wyatt, she was born in Bristol Tennessee and was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area. Lauren was a graduate of Tennessee High School and attended East Tennessee State University, where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She was a retiree of The Kroger Co. and a member of First United Methodist Church in Bristol Tennessee. An excellent competitive swimmer and equestrian, Lauren maintained her love of the outdoors and animals throughout her life. She also was an avid gardener who enjoyed growing everything, especially her flowers. In addition to her mother, Lauren's survivors include her husband, Jeffery L. Cooper of Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, Lynette Wyatt Sisk and her husband, Conrad, of Bluff City, Tenn., and Lisa Wyatt Underwood of Knoxville, Tenn.; one brother, Irwin Basil Wyatt Jr. of Bristol Tennessee; three nieces, Erin Underwood and Rachel Underwood, both of Knoxville, and April Osborne of Bristol Tennessee; and one great-nephew, Noah Osborne of Bristol Tennessee. Jones, of Crozet, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 1, 2010, after a decade long battle with Parkinson's Disease., She was born on June 6, 1925, in a coal mining town, Dunham, Kentucky, which later became known as Jenkins, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Cecil M. Elledge of Hayes, North Carolina, and Varina A. Elledge of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina., She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Ray B. Jones, and their three children, James R. Jones and his wife, Deborah B., of Crozet, and their children, Rachel, Jamey, Sarah, and Esther; a daughter, Deborah L. Jones of Crozet; and another son, Richard A. Jones and his wife, Faye, also of Crozet., She is also survived by a nephew, John Elledge and his wife, Florence, of Afton, and many great-nieces and nephews including John Jr., Dennis, and Lisa., She was preceded in death by her brother, Cecil M. Elledge Jr. of Gary, Indiana; and a sister, Vivian Gordon of Roanoke, Virginia., She grew up in Jenkins, Kentucky, and later moved to Fairlawn, Virginia, where she completed high school and went on to Radford College for completion of an associate's degree in Business. Shortly thereafter she met her future husband, Ray, a student at Virginia Tech, at the time Ray was president of his fraternity, and Madeline became his sponsor, enjoying many social events there. She was his dance partner and became his life partner as they were married on December 30, 1950., They moved to Covesville, then Petersburg, Virginia, and later to Albemarle County, where they settled to raise their family. She was employed for several years at Acme Visible Records in Crozet and later for over 20 years as a bookkeeper at Barnes Lumber Company. During that time, she was a long time member and past president of the Crozet Women's Club, and Crozet Moonlighter's Chapter of the Homemaker's Extension Club., Madeline enjoyed nothing more than her family and celebrating her life with them. Special friends in her life included Chris and Art Baber formerly of Crozet, now of LaLuz, New Mexico., She will be particularly remembered for her wonderful cooking and homemaking skills, a compassion for those in need, and her love and care for her family., The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of caregivers that attended their loved one, Renee, Lisa, Leslie and Paula over the years. Marjorie Owen Williams Marjorie Owen Williams died Monday, Sept. 27, 2010. She had a long and happy life as the devoted wife of the late Ernest Williams II and the mother of Ernest Williams III, of Nashville, Tenn., Tracy W. Barron, of Concord, Mass., and Marjorie W. Coward, of Fairfax. She is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Marjorie was born Nov. 5, 1915, in Lynchburg, to John Doniphan Owen and Persis Pursell Owen. She attended National Cathedral School for the last two years of high school. She graduated from Wellesly College in 1937, where she was a music major and a memeber of the choir and a member of Alpha Zeta. She and her late husband lived in Lynchburg for more than 50 years. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school. She served as the president of the Junior League of Lynchburg, the YWCA and the Lynchburg chapter of the Garden Club of Virginia. She joined in her husband's interests in golf and even learned to fly his small plane. She also joined Ernie in his enthusiastic support of Washington and Lee University. An Honor Scholarship in both of their names was set up at W & L. The Marjorie Williams Endowment for Library Acquisitions was established in 1993. In 1959, Marj and Ernie built a summer house at Hilton Head, S.C., and in 1970 they retired there. On Hilton Head, she and her late husband were enthusiastic golfers and active members of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where they sang in the choir. Retirement did not last long after Marj and Ernie started the Binnacle Antique Store at Harbor Town. This was an enjoyable and fascinating business for them both; they ran it until a few years before their next move. In 1986, the Williams moved to the Villlage of Golf, Fla. There, Marjorie continued with her interest in golf, croquet and duplicate bridge. She was an active member of St. Pauls's Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the choir and a vestry member. From 1989 to 1995, she and her late husband spent summers at the Chatooga Club in Cahiers, N.C. Marjorie spent the last four years of her husband's life faithfully caring for him. She discounted the toll to herself, saying, "it is my pleasure." For her last few years, Marjorie's loving caregiver was Marie Louigene. Marjorie will be remembered by all who knew her as a sweet, gracious and elegant person. A memorial service will be held for Marjorie at 10 a.m. Oct. 30, 2010, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 188 S Swinton Ave., Delray, Fla. Mrs. Pennington was preceded in death by her two husbands, James Lacy Blevins and Dayton Pennington; and two brothers, Reeves Osborne and Ernest Osborne. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Bill Robbins, Marion; one sister, Iva Witten, Marion; two grandsons, Larry Robbins and wife, Kim, Marion, and Jeff Robbins and fianc‚e, Marci Blackstock, Black Mountain, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Robbins, Atlanta, Ga., and Crystal Davis-Robbins Tarditti and husband, Juan, Durango, Colo.; a special cousin, Kathleen Powers; a special nephew, Robert Osborne and wife, Ruth; and many special friends. EICHER, Robert E., of Midlothian, Va., died on Saturday, October 2, 2010. He was born on May 4, 1936 in Norfolk, Va. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kwang "Pat" Eicher; his son, James W. Eicher; and daughter-in-law, Patty, both of Henrico County; his stepson, Lloyd Morris of Midlothian; brother, Ronald L. Eicher of Norfolk, Va.; sister, Barbara E. Taylor and her husband, Alvin, and their daughter, Jenny, of Norfolk; and sister, Linda E. Wunderlich and her husband, Steve, and their daughter, Debbie, and son, Caleb, of Vinemont, Ala. He is also survived by daughter, Alexandria S. Campos and her husband, Miguel, and son, Joshua, of Oxnard, Calif.; and stepchildren, Lindsay B. Wilhoit and Jason Wilhoit of Richmond, Va. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Flossie Eicher. In 1958, he received a B.A. with honors from the University of Virginia. In 1961, he received an L.L.B. from the law school. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Raven Society. In law school, he was writing director of the Student Legal Research Group and a faculty student assistant. After passing the State Bar Examination in 1960, following his second year in law school, he practiced law with Copenhaver & Tremblay in Charlottesville for several months before he entered active duty in April of 1965 as a Judge Advocate in the Air Force. He was discharged on February 28, 1965 as a Captain and joined Williams Mullen on March 8, 1965, where he served as the firm's counsel for a number of years. During his career, he served on the State Bar's Professionalism Course faculty for three years, the Legal Ethics Committee for seven years (chairman for two years), Lawyer Discipline Committee for four years, and Disciplinary Board for six years (chairman in the sixth year). He was an author and lecturer for the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the Virginia State Bar. He was inducted as a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation in 2001 and awarded the Richmond Bar Association's Professionalism Award in 2008. He was proud of Williams Mullen and the opportunities it afforded him to pursue excellence. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tomahawk Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, October 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home on Huguenot Road. Willie Joe "Bill" Johnson ABINGDON, Va. Willie Joe "Bill" Johnson passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at Johnston Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., and attended Highlands Fellowship. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Preston and Betty Tolliver Johnson; his loving wife, Katherine Adams Johnson; two brothers, Charles Johnson and George Johnson; and two sisters, Mary Lee Lilly and Ruth Johnson. He is survived by two sons, Joey Johnson, Abingdon, and Jonathan Johnson and wife, Karen, Abingdon; one brother, Herbert Johnson and wife, Carol, of Church Hill, Tenn.; one sister, Goldie Dye, Abingdon; four grandchildren, Eric, Beren, Bridger and Jake Johnson; and four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Brenden, Samuel and Rachel Johnson. He is also survived by a special niece, Linda Johnson, Bristol Virginia; and his faithful caregiver, Judy Hall. Bill was employed by, for over 40 years. He loved fishing, canoeing on the river, spending time at the beach with family and friends and coaching youth baseball, taking several teams to the state baseball tournament. Some of his fondest memories were of watching his sons and grandsons play sports. He was a very kind and generous man and his daily presence will be missed. A private viewing will be held on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. at Farris Funeral Service, and close friends are invited to attend.
