SMITHFIELD - Alice Moore Hannon, 77, of Smithfield, Va., beloved wife of 40 years to Robert Charles Hannon, passed away on Oct. 25, 2010.

Alonza B. McKeel Jr. NORFOLK - Mac McKeel, U.S. Navy retired, 86, passed peacefully Sept. 25, 2010, in Denver. He graduated from Maury High School and Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy, served his country in multiple World War II campaigns, and retired from Navy and NationsBank. He was an active member and Sunday School teacher at First Lutheran Church. He is survived by his children: Mac McKeel (Denver) and daughter Linda Heath (Richmond). A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, in First Lutheran Church, Colley Avenue. He was buried with full military honors at Fort Logan. Donations to Lutheran Family Services in lieu of flowers.

Alvin Leroy Nichols Jr. Alvin Leroy Nichols Jr., 83, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born Sunday, Feb. 13, 1927, in Bedford County, a son of the late Alvin Leroy Nichols Sr. and Jennie Lou Roberts Nichols. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Basil Nichols, Travis Nichols, Ray B. Nichols and Troy Lee Nichols, and three sisters, Agnes Guthrie, Inez Baber and Lorene Dare Johnson. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and Bedford County Public Schools and was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. Surviving is his wife, Anna Lashutka Nichols; and four sisters, Isabelle N. Hughes, of Bedford, Katherine Wood, of Huddleston, Mary Ann Wade, of Hampton; and Barbara Jane Padgett, of Roanoke. The family requests no flowers and are asking those who wish to make memorials to consider , P.O. Mrs. Annie Cragg Stokes, 89, formerly of 13522 Glebe Road, DeWitt, Va., entered into eternal rest and peace early Monday morning, Oct. 25, 2010, at the Envoy of Lawrenceville Center., She was born Aug. 18, 1921, to the late Arthur Cragg and Anarchy Jordan Cragg. She was educated in the Dinwiddie County School System and was a graduate of the Dinwiddie Training Institute. At an early age, she joined the Shiloh Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, and was a former member of the Choir and Pastors Aid Ministry. Along with being the wife of a farmer, she was also a former employee of Keller MFG, McKenney, Va. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edison Stokes; brothers, James, Oscar, Garfield and Reuben Cragg; and two sisters, Julia C. Bradley and Augusta C. Parker., She is survived by her brother, Jonathan Cragg and his wife, Louise, of Dinwiddie; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends., Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at the Shiloh Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, with the pastor, the Rev. Oct 28, 2010 Avis D. Redd Wright, 72, of Akron, Ohio, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. She was born in Stuart on Nov. 15, 1937, to John Henry and Elizabeth Ann Foddrell Redd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Henry "Boley" Redd. She attended Russell Business College in Virginia, then moved to Ohio. She worked as a secretary for several companies, the last being State Farm Insurance in North Carolina. She was a member of the House of the Lord in Akron, Ohio. Surviving are her husband of 37 years, Raymond T. Wright of the home; one son, Ricky Phillips of Chillicothe, Ohio; five brothers, Gary Redd Sr. of Walnut Cove, N.C., Marvin Garland Redd of Stuart, Roger Redd of Stoneville, N.C., Maurice Redd of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Cephus Redd of Orrville, Ohio; three grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A funeral will be at noon Friday at the House of the Lord, 1650 Diagonal Road in Akron. The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the church. Farish Jr., Bernard Coulter Farish Jr., 51, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2010 in a local hospital., He was born on September 10, 1959, in Charlottesville, the son of Bernard Coulter Farish Sr. and Betty Collins Farish., He was a graduate of Albemarle High School and worked for facilities management at the University of Virginia. He was a good dad and husband who would always make you smile. Bernard enjoyed farming and his grandchildren were his pride and joy., Other survivors include his wife of 32 years, Rebecca Farish; his children, Bernard C. Carolyn enjoyed 23 years as a school nurse; the last 18 years for Hampton City Schools at Jane H. Bryan Elementary. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 46 years, Wayne C. Sadler, of Yorktown; daughter, Lisa M. Sadler, of State College, Pa.; son, Alan C. Sadler, and wife, Melissa, of Yorktown; grandson, Joshua C. Sadler, also of Yorktown; and a sister, Suzy Amburn, and husband, Roy, of Reedville. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at Amory Funeral Home in Grafton. Dean Charles A. Perry of Charlottesville, Virginia, died on Sunday, October 24, 2010, in Asheville, North Carolina., Dean Perry was the Associate Rector of Saint Paul's Memorial Episcopal Church in Charlottesville from 1964 until 1968 and returned to Charlottesville with his wife, Joy, for their retirement in 1995., After starting a career in public service with the Atomic Energy Commission, he attended Virginia Theological Seminary graduating in 1962. His service as an Episcopal priest included Grace Episcopal Church in Goochland, Virginia, Trinity Episcopal Church in Bloomington, Indiana, in addition to Saint Paul's., In 1970, he became the Executive Officer of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. In 1976, he was named the Provost of the Washington National Cathedral leading the worship life of that church and fostering international peace and communication. Dean Perry lead the mission of the Cathedral as a House of Prayer For All People. He also officiated over completion of construction and the final dedication in 1990. His last position was as Dean of the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley California., In retirement, Dean Perry was active in St. Paul's Memorial Church and Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John E. Owens; her son, John S. Owens; and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors are her daughters, Pat (Gene) Wise of Bluefield, Va., Susan (Tim) Farley of Prince George, Va., and Renee (Michael) McIntyre of Christiansburg, Va.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Sue Grady of Fayetteville, N.C.; brother, Harold Farris of Odum, Ga.; special daughter-in-law, Libby Owens; and several nieces and nephews. Colbert was self-employed as the owner and operator of Affordable Services, a successful painting and home improvement business. Colbert leaves to cherish his memories his lifelong soul mate, Linda Jackson. Crispin D. Dicipulo NORFOLK - Crispin Domingo Dicipulo went to be with the Lord Oct. 24, 2010. He was born in Rosales, Pangasinan, Philippine Islands in 1933 and became a U.S. citizen in 1968. He entered the United States Navy in 1954 and served honorably for 20 years. During his career as a chief petty officer storekeeper he served on many ships and completed two tours in Vietnam. After retiring from the military, he was employed by the United States Postal Service and retired after 25 years. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, and seven grandchildren. Dave owned and operated the New River Junction at McCoy for more than 25 years. Dave was a proud father and coach to his junior golfers, Jake and Ryan, and took great pleasure in watching their success on and off the course. Edmund Stronski

Edmund J. Stronski HAMPTON - Retired Navy Cmdr. Edmund J. "Ned" Stronski, 90, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 in Suffolk. Born in Albany, N.Y., June 20, 1920, he was a longtime resident of Hampton. Ned was preceded in death by his father and mother, Andrew B. and Alice Flood Stronski; his wife, Jean Noesser Stronski; and two daughters, Mary Lorraine Stronski and Loretta Jean Stronski. He is survived by four loving children, Elizabeth Stronski Deshotel (Clopha) of Bridgeport, Conn., Catherine Elena Stronski of Vero Beach, Fla., Claire Stronski Isley (Sam) of Chesapeake, and James Andrew Stronski (Angelika) of Jacksonville, Fla.; and six grandchildren, Hanabeta Deshotel, Katarina Deshotel, Abraham Deshotel, Dawn Deshotel, Bonnie Deshotel and Joseph Isley. Ned lived in Schenectady, N.Y., at his parental home until he entered the Navy in 1942. He was a graduate of Siena College with a B.S. degree in physics. While serving in the Navy, he attended the U.S. Navy Postgraduate School and graduated with a major in meteorology. Upon retirement from the Navy, Ned enrolled in graduate school at Old Dominion University, where he earned a M.S. degree in education. Ned was a veteran of World War II, as well as the Korean and Vietnam wartime periods. His sea service was served in various types of naval vessels. Destroyer duty accounted for several years of his naval service, which included the command of the USS Turner (DDR-834) and the USS Earl B. Hall (APD-107). Additionally, he served six years of sea duty with the U.S. Naval Meteorological Service. He retired from the Navy in 1968 after 26 years of active duty. Upon retirement from the Navy, Ned was the Naval Science Instructor for the NJROTC unit in Kecoughtan High School for 13 years. Ned was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hampton. He served on the parish board for several years as well as the new church building committee. He also served as a lector at Sunday masses. Ned was a docent for the Mariners' Museum for more than 20 years and was a life member of the Military Officers Association. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at St. Joseph Church, Hampton, by the Rev. Alistair McKay. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Norfolk at 10 a.m. Saturday. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Maryview Nursing Care Center. R. Elizabeth Purvis NORFOLK - Elizabeth Moye Purvis, 87, of the 200 block of W. 35th Street, a native of Greenville, N.C., entered into eternal rest Friday, Oct. 22, 2010. She was predeceased by her husband, John B. Purvis; her son, John Purvis; and grandsons, Maurice Purvis and Jimmie Lee Purvis Jr. Mrs. Purvis was a proud member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Norfolk for more than 50 years. She was a dedicated member of Belle-Purvis Missionary Society and was devoted in her relationship with the Lord. Survivors include eight daughters, Barbara Jean Price of New Jersey, Lois McClain of Chesapeake, Zula Gaines, Brenda Purvis, Linda Purvis, Audrey Kirkland, Arvis Purvis McDaniels (Warren), all of Norfolk, and Nancy Purvis of Chesapeake; two sons, Jimmie Lee Purvis Sr. (Wanda) of Maryland and Artist Purvis (Priscilla) of Michigan, along with a wealth of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at noon Friday, Oct. 29, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in the Berkley section of Norfolk. Dr. James Webb, pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, will officiate the service. Burial will occur in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk. A viewing will be held from noon to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 28, at Metropolitan Funeral Home, Granby Chapel. She was an active member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church, a member of The Wednesday Club, the Book and Author Club, Garden Club, an active bridge player and she had a Paul Harris Fellowship., She was also predeceased by two brothers, William Bennett Yeatts and Archie Yeatts., She is survived by one son, Kenneth Lee Neathery Jr. and his wife, Sarah Wall Neathery, of Keswick, Virginia; two grandchildren, Kenneth Lee Neathery III and his wife, Rhonda, and Preston Tyler Neathery and his wife, Jennie, both of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and four great-grandchildren, J. Frank Corillo VIRGINIA BEACH - Frank Corillo was many things to many people, but on the top of the list was loving husband and father. He passed away peacefully Oct. 25, 2010. He was born in New York Jan. 20, 1924. During his 86 years he was primarily involved in sales and was successful because of his honest and ethical approach to his clients and customers. He always did what he said he would do. A member of the Greatest Generation, he served in the Coast Guard during World War II. Following that he married the one love of his life, Kathleen T. Gallagher, and together they raised four children, who are left to honor his memory as a kind and gentle man who had a good word for everyone he knew. When he lived in Northvale, N.J., he was asked by both political parties to run for mayor. He was transferred to Boston with his job before he could enter the political arena but not before he and his wife joined the all volunteer ambulance corps in the town and Frank soon became its president. His career eventually took him to Virginia Beach where he found a home and remained there in retirement. His wife, Kathleen, predeceased Frank in 2000. He is survived by his son, Dr. Glenn Corillo and his wife Marilyn; his three daughters, Dale Ann Corillo, Dawn Marie Manson and her husband Van, and Nova Jean Corillo. He also had 10 grandchildren, Keith Corillo, Scott Corillo, Todd Corillo, Chad Corillo, Cori Trask, Casey Trask, Megan Trask, Kimberly Manson, Van Manson II, and Rebecca Manson. He also leaves two great-grandchildren, Natalie Jean De Castro and Alexander O'Brian. Gregory Rankin VIRGINIA BEACH - Gregory Rankin, 56, of the 2000 block of Manassas Run, passed away Oct. 24, 2010 in Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He was born Nov. 27, 1953 to Louise Nickolas and the late Robert Rankin in Buffalo, N.Y. Gregory served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years. After his retirement he was employed with HRT as bus driver for more than nine years. Gregory was a member of the Harley Davidson, Southside, the Elks and the Mason PHA. He received his associates degree in business administration. He is survived by his wife, Carol Rankin; his mother; two daughters; four sons; three sisters; one brother; 12 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby Street. Interment will be in Pensacola, Fla. Guy Foster Hollifield died at age 59, on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital., He lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but died after a brief illness while visiting his mother in Charlottesville., He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on August 5, 1951, to Guy Foster Hollifield Sr. and Katherine Elmer Hollifield., He was raised in Charlottesville, graduating from Lane High School in 1969. After high school, he became an accomplished electrician. He then returned to school, attended the University of Virginia, and received a degree in Electrical Engineering., After graduation, he moved to Pittsburgh, where he lived until his death. There, he went to work as an electrical engineer for the Paul Wurth Company, a renowned international engineering company, specializing in steel mill production. He loved steel, and he loved Pittsburgh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sue Farris Honaker and Betty Farris Zavala; and by his brother, Elmer Farris. Henry B. Hayman Jr. NASHUA, N.H. - Henry Balfour Hayman Jr., 74, a Nashua resident for the past 28 years, died Sunday morning, Oct. 24, 2010 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack after a long illness. Born in Newport News Oct. 16, 1936, he was a son of the late Henry Balfour and Bernice (Nelson) Hayman. Henry grew up in the Tidewater area of Southeast Virginia and was a graduate of Maury High School, Class of 1956. An Army veteran, Mr. Hayman served a tour of duty from 1958 to 1961. He then continued his education at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, where he earned an associate's degree in science. Mr. Hayman began his career as a startup engineer at the Newport News Ship Yard, where he worked on many test sea trials of nuclear submarines. He then worked for the Atlantic Research Corporation in Springfield, Va., where one of his proudest achievements was pioneering the process of spinning monofilament carbon fibers. From 1982 until his retirement in 2001, Henry was an engineer for several power companies including Ebasco and Raytheon Power. His longterm assignments included power plants in Louisiana, Texas, Alaska and Pakistan. J. Rodney Duckworth Sr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Retired U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Rodney Duckworth Sr., 74, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Oct. 24, 2010. He was born in Tulsa, Okla., and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1958. Following graduation, Lt. Col. Duckworth received his commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He began his career in the Marine Corps at attending The Basic School (TBS) in Quantico, Va. As an artillery officer, Lt. Col. Duckworth served tours of duty with the Third Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan; was the commanding officer of the 3rd Battalion, 10th Marines and 2nd Anglico while assigned to the Second Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, N.C.; and the First Marine Division in the Republic of Vietnam. He also had tours of duty at Twentynine Palms, Calif.; the Marine Barracks, Concord, Calif.; the Joint/Combined Staff, Taiwan; and at headquarters, Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic. After 27 years of loyal and dedicated service, Lt. Col. Duckworth retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in February 1984. He started his second career of 26 years in 1984 as a financial advisor with Morgan Stanley, rising to senior vice president. In 2005 he started The Duckworth Group as Senior V.P. with UBS Financial Services Inc. The group consist of his son, J. Rodney Duckworth Jr., vice president, Bill Dullaghan, financial advisor and close friends of 31 years and Susie Waters, Registered Client Service Association who has worked with Rod for 26 years. He was very proud of his accomplishment as a financial advisor and had many clients who became close friends. As a young second lieutenant he discovered the game of volleyball and was an active player until he retired. Then a group of senior retired and active duty military personnel were assembled as a team dubbed "War Horses" and competed throughout the eastern area and on to the senior division of the USA Nationals. This marked the beginning of decades of long string of National Senior Games, World Senior Games, USAV National Seniors and USA Open Division participation. He became very active in teaching his son, Jon Michael to play volleyball. Michael received a scholarship at George Mason University where he graduated. Rod was very active with the university, coaches and players contributing much time and resources to the success of the volleyball program. He put together a team of top college performers and proceeded to compete for several years at the highest level in United States Open Volleyball Championships. It will suffice to say people from all walks of life have had their volleyball experience richly enhanced because of him. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 42 years, Suzie and their two sons, J. Rodney Duckworth Jr. and Jon Michael Duckworth of Virginia Beach; two grandsons, Riley Duckworth and Garrett Duckworth; daughter-in-law, Denise Duckworth of Oklahoma City; sister, Beverly Ann Harris and brother-in-law Jim Harris of St. Louis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mary and Richard Handley of Plano, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, David Rodney Duckworth of Dallas. The family would like to thank Drs. John and Chantal Brooks for their support for the past three years as his doctors and close friends; Shirley Hughes and Carolyn Killebrew and Sentara Hospice Nurse Wanda Hyatt for their love and support during Rods last few days. Rod was a loving husband and dedicated father to his sons. He always had a helping hand to all that knew him. He will truly be missed by his Marine Corps friends, volleyball friends, and his many clients and associates. Her positive outlook, sunny disposition, and good humor endeared her to all she met. She was a loving and inspiring role model, aging gracefully and fulfilling her important role in the life of her immediate and extended family., Jean moved to the Colonnades in 1995 where she led a very active social life and enjoyed frequent visits with her family. In recent years, her favorite activity was playing bridge as often as six days a week with a group of wonderful friends and partners., She was born on December 31, 1915, in Charleston, West Virginia, daughter of Frank Jarrett Hill and Lillian Haines Hill of Alderson, West Virginia. Her father graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1906. Jean graduated from Charleston High School in 1934 and was married in 1938., In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Reginald Foster Woods Jr., who died in 1977; her infant daughter, Nancy Carolyn Woods, who died in 1947; and her sister, Mary Frances Hill Robertson, who died in 2003., She is survived by her son, Reginald Foster Woods III and his wife, Katharine Norden Woods, of Keswick. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Eric Arthur Woods and his wife, Sanya Lloyd Woods, of University City, Missouri, Elizabeth "Beth" Terry Woods Boyer and her husband, Kevin Michael Boyer, of Charlottesville, and Tracy Lee Woods Metz and her husband, Joshua Lee Metz, of Charlottesville; and three great-grandchildren, Morgan Lee Metz, Ainsley Lachlan Boyer and Katharine May Metz. Mr. Young obtained funding and directed a range of notable projects in the Washington metropolitan area. He was born on August 10, 1918, in Charlottesville, the oldest son of the late Abe A. Hildebrand and Annie Marie Allen Hildebrand. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Doris H. Hall; and a brother, Forrest A. Hildebrand., "Byrd" is survived by his wife Roberta, the love of his life and his partner of 63 years. His devoted family includes daughter, Robin H. Woolfolk and her husband, Lindsay, of Orange; son Rodney W. Hildebrand and his wife, Claudia, of Keswick; five grandchildren who adored him immensely and affectionately called him "Daddy Byrd", Ashley Brooke Woolfolk, Lindsay Coleman Woolfolk III, Courtney Wilson Hildebrand, Cameron Louis Hildebrand and Carey Barnes Hildebrand. Also surviving him are four loving siblings, Lelia H. North of Lynchburg, Catherine M. "Kitty-Ree" Hildebrand, Abe A. "Pete" Hildebrand Jr. and Martha H. Weaver, all of Charlottesville, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews., Although "Byrd" worked for several years as a brickmason, his primary employment was with the United States Postal Service where he progressed from clerk to civil service examiner, eventually retiring in 1980 as an examination specialist. During his 31 years of service, he chaired the Incentive Awards Committee and was recognized with numerous honors/commendations., "Byrd's" family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the loving care provided by the practices of Dr. David Morris and Dr. Robert Pritchard and by the staffs of the Martha Jefferson Hospital Infusion Center and the Hospice House., "Byrd" was a kind, gentle soul and a true family man. DAVIS, Mildred H., 85, of Manakin-Sabot, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2010. She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Duane Davis; and her sisters, Marion Riley and Margaret Lancaster. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James E. Davis; her sisters, Maybelle Carter and Mary Roberson; numerous nieces and nephews, and loving neighbors and friends. She was a member of the Three Chopt Church of Christ for 52 years. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Margaret E. Lutz VIRGINIA BEACH - Margaret E. (Peggy) Lutz died peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 in New York. She was born May 17, 1938 in Jersey City, N.J. She moved to the Jersey Shore at Avon-By-The- Sea, which she forever called home. She met and married the love of her life, Donald D. Lutz in 1958 and they shared a wonderful life together until his passing in 2007. The U.S. Navy transferred them to Virginia Beach in 1969 where she resided until her passing. She loved her church, her family and her furry friend, Reggie, who will miss her dearly. She is survived by her son, William M. Lutz and his wife Anne; daughter, Margaret A. Cooney and her husband Patrick; and daughter, Rose Mary Smith. She was predeceased by her daughter, Laurie L. Harvey. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Of special mention are her beloved grandchildren, Crystal and Tiffany who tended to their grandmother with much love and care. Our Mom, Mom-Mom and Great-Grandmom will be remembered by her selfless devotion and generosity to her family. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School and Roanoke College, where she met her husband, Lucian Whitaker Hiner, who passed away in 2006 after 64 years of marriage. She is survived by her five children, Lucian Whitaker Hiner Jr. of Richmond, William David Hiner of Newport News, Laura Hiner Allen of New York City, Susan Elizabeth Hiner of Croton-on-Hudson, New York, and Thomas Youell Hiner of New York City; her eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and her nephew, Mark Williams of Roanoke. Carter Savory, Melisande Carter Savory passed away on Friday, October 22, 2010, while fighting a most courageous battle against vaginal melanoma., Lissy, as she was affectionately know, was born on October 30, 1956, in Charlottesville, Virginia. She is survived by her loving parents, Walter E. Savory and Theo Housh Savory. She is also survived by her sister, Grenelle Delany; her husband, Peter, and their children, Gray and Charlotte., Lissy loved her extended family at Blue Ridge School where she served as Administrative Assistant in Development. We marveled at her numerous talents ranging from computer graphics to performing skits on stage for parents' weekend. Lissy treasured the natural beauty of her surroundings and especially all of God's creatures. Her pet squirrel, Georginna, visited Lissy multiple times during her days at work, watching Lissy through her second story window, as she munched on delicious grains and nuts left by Lissy on the sill., At home, Lissy enjoyed her four dogs, all excelling in agility and obedience training. She took great pleasure in her years of foxhunting with the Keswick Hunt Club, riding Spice, her favorite hunter. She was also fortunate to experience foxhunting with Link Brooking and Montpelier Hunt. Lissy loved the adventures of travel with wonderful Abercrombie trips to Africa, Russia, and numerous sunny cruises., Lissy faced every obstacle of her illness with extreme courage and great hope for success. She never complained, and was an inspiration to us all. She leaves behind an empty chair at our table on Thanksgiving, many gifts unopened on Christmas Day, a basket waiting to be discovered at Easter, and wishes that we could just enjoy one more day together, and yet another. We love you, Lissy., We are thankful for the days we had with her, and are humbled by the friends who made her life so meaningful. We are thankful for Dr. Peyton Taylor who always stopped for a visit to offer warmth and encouragement for Lissy, as well as healing for her family. We are thankful for the nurses and others on the eighth floor at The University of Virginia Medical Center that helped Lissy through long days and nights. We were touched by her dear friends that offered endless love and support; for Thornton Jones who spent many nights at the hospital, and Lane Crawford and John Coleman, who were always there for Lissy. Goode. She was born on Oct.r 5, 1929, in Petersburg, Va. She graduated from Peabody High School and continued her education of higher learning to obtain several degrees., Mildred C. Wright, affectionately known as "Mother Wright," was the mother of two children, Jamita Wright of Richmond, Va., and James Wright of Washington, D.C. She is the grandmother of five children, Erica Ishia Penn of Washington, D.C., DeAndre M. Wright (Erica) U.S. Army, Richmond Hill, Ga., Dominique E. Wright of Washington, D.C., Devon J. Wright of Laurel, Md., and Rayvon Medley Wright of Washington, D.C.; two great-grandchildren, Brianna and Derrick, both of Washington, D.C., Upon her conversion she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was Holy Ghost filled. Mother Wright moved to Washington, D.C., in 1964. She was a member of The Temple of Praise Church, located at 700 Southern Ave. SE, Washington, D.C., Bishop Glen A. Staples, pastor., Mother Wright was a certified tuberculosis nurse and a registered nurse. She served in administration as a public and private school teacher and Bible instructor at The Bible Way Education Center and the International Bible School Education Worldwide program. She served as an International Altar Worker for Bible Way Worldwide. While at Bible Way Temple, 1100 New Jersey Ave., Washington, D.C., she was a Sunday school teacher. She taught evangelistic training for primary and advanced students at the Bible Way/Wheaton College. She holds a doctorate of ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio; a master of divinity degree from Howard University, Washington, D.C.; master of arts in education/mental health from University of District of Columbia; and a bachelor of arts in child studies/child psychology from Marymount University., Bishop Smallwood E. Williams appointed her to organize Sunday morning, New Member's Orientation class and to serve as a Prayer Warrior. She was appointed by Bishop Williams to serve as counselor to the seniors and young people; Social Senior Field Missionary-Evangelist and Church Mother. He was born April 22, 1943 in Waynesboro, Pa. to the late Frank James and Evelyn Lovell Speelman., Bob was a very accomplished Radiological Technologist having worked at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney, Md. for 13 years, Fauquier Hospital as Director of Radiology, Arlington Hospital for 20 years and Culpeper Regional Hospital for the last 25 years. He was a member of the American Society of Radiological Technologist and the American Registry of Radiological Tech-nologist. He was also a member of Jeffersonton Baptist Church from 1977 to 2010 and was recently attending Calverton Baptist Church. He always took part in Relay for Life and throughout his career he taught and mentored many students through Fauquier and Culpeper hospitals teaching new techniques to help advance their careers. Bob was a charismatic person who never met a stranger and was famous for his big pig roasts., He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marilyn Jane Speelman; two children, Steven Michael Speelman and his wife, Pam of Culpeper and Kris D. Roscoe H. Phillips, Roscoe H. Phillips died after a long illness on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at age 96., He was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, on March 10, 1914, the oldest of Edward C. and Ada Phillips' three sons., After many years of working for Radio Liberty/Radio Free Europe in Taiwan, Germany, and Spain, he moved with his family to Charlottesville, to retire. Retirement did not last long for this active, multi-talented man. He soon returned to working as Electronics Lab Coordinator at Piedmont Virginia Community College, enjoying interaction with students and colleagues until he finally retired at age 88., Roscoe also known as Phil, was a loved brother, husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend, a generous man of great integrity. Many sought his advice. His motto in life was "everything happens for the best"., He was "Mr. Fix-it", who could restore everything, from broken toys, complicated electronic equipment, to broken hearts. She was born in Washing ton County, Va., on Nov. 2, 1927, daughter of the late Philip Jerome Reynolds and Grace Maiden Reynolds. Rosemary graduated from Meadowview High School in 1945, and attended Emory & Henry College from 1946 1947. She had been employed in the Emory & Henry Library for 20 years, from 1970 1990. Mrs. Neese was a member of Meadowview United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Neese was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Carlos Bellamy. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 63 years, Arthur B. Neese Jr., of Meadowview; one daughter, Rose Neese Houk and husband, Don of Galax, Va.; one grandson, Tyler Houk of Galax; one brother, Marvin Reynolds and wife, Ann of Bogart, Ga.; two sisters, Jane Bellamy of Bristol Tennessee and Harriet Reynolds of Hillsville, Va.; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was born on May 20, 1946, in Alexandria, Virginia, a son of the late Lindsay J. and Evelyn (Callahan) Payne., In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey Payne., Mr. Payne served in the United States Air Force from 1963 until 1967 and worked as a sheet metal mechanic., Survivors include a son, Scott Payne of Tampa, Florida; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Kelley Payne of Damascus, Maryland, and Dale and Barbara Payne of Orlando, Florida; two nieces and two nephews., A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, October 29, 2010, at the Scottsville Cemetery. Those desiring may visit with the family from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville.

Prior to that she served as City Recorder for Bluff City, Tenn. She was a member of Bluff City United Methodist Church and attended Enterprise United Methodist Church. Survivors include daughter, Leslie Wisecarver and husband, Richard of Knoxville, Tenn.; sons, Gregg Webb and wife, Teresa of Bluff City, Mike Webb and wife, Mary of Johnson City, Tenn.; grandchildren, Brad Webb, Justin Webb and wife, Tausha, Julie Ashbrook and husband, Carlton, LeAnne Rogers and husband, Jeremiah, Jennifer Murphy and husband, Kyle, and Alice Sessoms and husband, Landon; and great-grandchildren, Olivia and Carter Ashbrook. Walter H. Dawson

Walter H. Dawson CHERITON - Walter Harcourt Dawson, 90, husband of Charlotte Dawson and a resident of Cheriton passed away Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010 at his residence. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Aug. 14, 1920. He was the son of the late Henry P. and Annie Woods Dawson. Mr. Dawson graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School and then attended St. Christopher's School in Richmond, Va. In 1942, Walter enlisted in the U.S. Army. He ended his last year of service as a special investigator out of the Adjutant General's Office in Manila and tracked down Philippine collaborators with the Japanese and documented Japanese war crimes. He was employed in the Security Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory with the Atomic Energy Commission for 33 years, retiring at age 57. Walter and his wife Charlotte moved to Cheriton in 1977. He joined the Loyal Order of the Moose 35 years ago in Ronkonkoma, N.Y., and upon moving to the Eastern Shore became a dedicated member of Exmore Moose Lodge No. 683, earning the Pilgrim Degree in 1999. He will be remembered for his many years of community service and his tireless fundraising efforts for March- of-Dimes and Relay for Life. Walter was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, joining 35 years ago in Westhampton Beach, N.Y. He is survived by his wife Charlotte; daughters, Annie Appleman, Frances Dawson, Melanie Dawson, Margaret LoBasso, and Aleta Blanchard; sons, Walter Dawson Jr. and George Dawson; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Bethany Ebenezer U.M.C., Lynch Station, by the Rev. Patricia Figueroa. Interment will follow in Bethany Memorial Cemetery, Leesville Road, Lynch Station. The remains will lie in state at the church fron noon until the hour of service. Oct 28, 2010 The funeral for William Henry Harbour of Fieldale, who died Oct. 23, 2010, was held Tuesday at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Garner, the Rev.
