Elizabeth Genette Stallard

Elizabeth Genette Stallard, 71, of Roanoke, Va., died on Saturday, April 10, 2010,at Lewis-Gale Hospital, Salem, Va. She was happy to be a beloved member of the NE Roanoke, Va., congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Elizabeth was born in rural Southwest Virginia, the oldest daughter of James G. and Rita S. Stallard. She is survived by her mother, Rita S. Stallard; and five siblings, Loyal N. Stallard, of Daleville, Va., Wayland W. Stallard, of Washington, D.C., Mavis S. Sessions, of Carrollton, Ga., Dewey D. Stallard, of Roanoke, Va., and Rita J. Stallard, of Roanoke, Va. She earned a Masters degree in Education from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va., and while she taught in various public school systems in Virginia and elsewhere, she spent more than 40 years of her adult life as a full-time volunteer in the Bible educational work being done by Jehovah's Witnesses in 236 countries. She strongly believed the most important educational work she could be involved in was the sharing of many truths she had learned from the Bible with others so they could benefit from a close, personal relationship with their Creator, Jehovah God-a relationship she herself worked hard to cultivate. Her marriage to W. Samuel Morris of Charlottesville, Va., produced no children; however, she served as "Mom" to several who became her friends. She considered her life to be enriched by the many friends and lasting friendships gained as a result of her Bible educational work. Her optimistic outlook was apparent to those around her, and her deep faith gave her the added strength to fight cancer for some 12 years. A memorial service for Elizabeth will be held 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 3495 Belle Avenue, Roanoke, Va. 24012. Justin Eric Simmons (In Memoriam)

In Loving Memory of Justin Eric SIMMONS on his 10th Birthday, 4/15/2000 4/22/2004, We are thinking of you, on your 10th birthday, but this is nothing new, We thought of you yesterday and every day before that too, We miss you constantly and frequently speak your name, We see traces of you in Josh, and Jeremy in little things they do It makes us smile but, it hurts all the same, Reminding us that all we, have are fond memories and, your pictures in frames, Your memories are our keepsake with which we'll never part, For six long years God has had you in His keeping and we, have you in our hearts, Your journey took a different path than what we as parents would have ever chose, Your earthly years were cut far too short and we are left to cherish what we had, God reminded us that children are not ours to keep and we know not of his plans, What he gives he can take away until we reach the end, It reminds us to be thankful no matter how big or small, He has toughened us and helped us to know he, can get us through all, We know without a doubt, you are in heaven and, that is where you will stay, Our peace comes from, knowing we will be there, with you one day, Loved and missed beyond what words are capable of describing, by Josh, Jeremy,, Daddy and Mommy

She was preceded in death by beloved husband, John; parents, David and Esther Goldberg; brothers, Samuel and Ephraim; and sister, Mary (Levy). Born in Bialystok, Poland, Rae, with her mother and siblings, landed in Ellis Island in 1923 following their father to Rochester, N.Y. While working in Portsmouth in 1940s, Rae met her future husband. They were married in Norfolk and immediately Rae had to sacrifice as John was drafted into the Army on their wedding day. As immigrants, Rae and her husband worked long hours to make a living in the United States and send their children to college. She worked side by side with John first at his grocery store and then at his bar and grill until his untimely death in 1967. She and her husband were dedicated to their three sons and sacrificed much so that their sons could all go to college. She was able to see her sons go on to become engineer, attorney and doctor respectively, which she delighted in telling to friends and strangers alike. In later years, she was doubly blessed to be able to share in the successes of her grandchildren as well, who have distinguished themselves in many ways. She was a longtime member of Hadassah and Congregation Beth El Synagogue. She volunteered at the Beth Sholom Home for many years prior to becoming a resident. After moving to Beth Sholom, she was encouraged to show her artistic abilities and began to paint. She received an award from the state of Virginia for one of her paintings. Wynona Taylor

TAYLOR, Wynona Smith, of Richmond, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the age of 73. Wynona has left behind, for now, a large group of grieving family, friends and acquaintances. She is survived by her husband, Frank, to whom she was married for 54 years; two daughters, Laura Taylor Alridge and Julia Taylor Boone; beloved sons-in-law, Patrick Alridge and Timothy Boone; two treasured grandchildren, Wyatt Alridge and Taylor Boone; four loving sisters, Ann Strickland (Jim), Margaret Huss (Bob), Faye Olsen (Bill), and Rebecca Krepps (Bill); 11 nieces and nephews whose birthdays and special occasions she always remembered with cards and notes of encouragement and love; and aunts and uncles, Neta Hobbs, Shelton and Jane Hobbs, Dennis and Winnie Hobbs, Shirley and Clifford Joyner and Thelma Allen. Wynona is the daughter of the late Ruth and Douglas Smith of Smithfield, North Carolina. Wynona was a special mom to Laura and Julia, and their best friend and greatest advocate. She was a second mom to the men they married. She was a complete grandmother to Wyatt and Taylor, who, if anyone lost her too early, it was them. She was a special friend to all who knew her whether she had just met them or she had known them for years. Wynona's greatest quality was love, which she gave freely to all in need of strength and encouragement. Everyone who had a relationship with her came away a beneficiary of that relationship. Wynona's faith in God was the basis for everything she did. She lived by the belief that "it is more blessed to give than to receive." She always wanted the best for her family and friends, and did anything she could to bring that about. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 16 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, April 17 at Hope Church, 12445 Patterson Ave., Richmond, Va. Interment private.
