BLACKWELDER, DAVID R. 55 - of Egg Harbor Twp, passed away most suddenly on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 in the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center - Mainland Campus in Pomona, Galloway Township. Born on September 2, 1954 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph Blackwelder and the late Rita (nee Torelli ) Blackwelder. He relocated to New Jersey at the age of 16 years. David was an avid fisherman, loved following the NASCAR racing circuit, and he had worked as an automobile mechanic since he was ten years of age. Mr. Blackwelder was formerly employed at Best Tire in Ocean City for 17 years, and most recently at the Auto Zone in Egg Harbor Township. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph "Tow Joe" Blackwelder, who passed away in 1991 and his mother Rita (nee Torelli) Blackwelder, who passed away in 2004. Survivors include his wife Betty M. (nee Parker) Blackwelder, children Edward L. Roselle (companion Dawn), Kenneth P. Roselle (Karrie), Valerie A. Roselle (fiance William McFarland, II), all of Egg Harbor Township and Shana M. Blackwelder of Toms River ; also surviving him are his grandchildren Samantha, Kyle, Evan, Sabrina and Chase Roselle, his sisters Charlotte Blackwelder of Brigantine and Darlene Philiposian of PA, his mother-in-law Mary Parker and father-in-law Paul Parker, and a niece Sandra Conover. BROWN, MICHELE A. 46 - of Williamstown, passed away September 2, 2009. Born in Somers Point on June 25, 1963, she was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt. (Asbury Park Press) LT. CMDR. WILLIAM P. CHOLTCO "BILL" AGE: 85 TOMS RIVER Lt. Cmdr. William P. Choltco "Bill", 85, of Toms River, took his final flight on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Lt. Cmdr. Choltco was born Nov. 25, 1923 in New Kensington, Pa. and graduated from New Kensington High School in 1941. Flying was his passion and shortly after his high school graduation, Lt. Cmdr. Choltco joined the Navy, becoming career a Naval Aviator. Lt. Cmdr. Choltco served his country during three wars, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross on two occasions, an award given to those in the Armed Forces who exhibit heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight. During the 1950's, he was stationed at Atlantic City Naval Air Station and flew with the Squadron VC-33. This was a night and foul weather squadron whose motto was "When the birds walk, we fly." Lt. Cmdr. Choltco was instrumental in having a memorial plaque to these brave aviators placed in the terminal of Atlantic City International Airport, the site of the former naval air station in August of 2008. Lt. Cmdr. Choltco was a communicant of St. Joseph Parish in Toms River and in the early 1970's worked tirelessly to bring a sports program to the new Catholic high school. He was a founding member of the Booster Club, and was instrumental in making the football field the first in the county to have lights so night games could be played. His efforts were recognized by the school when he was selected to be a charter member of the St. Joseph/Monsignor Donovan High School Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and V.F.W. He retired from the Navy in 1970 after his last assignment at NAS Lakehurst, having served at 12 duty stations and aboard 14 carriers. Bill became an insurance agent and then worked as a consultant to M&T Corporation in Lakehurst, where he worked on engineering designs for military aircraft carriers and helicopters. Bill was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, celebrating their 2009 Super Bowl win at his home with his family around him. He loved to play football in his youth and watching football every Sunday was a family tradition. He loved flying his radio-controlled planes, and painting, having graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1949 which he attended while recovering from injuries he received while on duty. He also loved to cook and took great delight in teaching his daughters some of his favorite recipes. Lt. Cmdr. Choltco was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Bernice "Sandy" (nee Sandella) Choltco; his parents, Victor and Ella (nee Dusko) Choltco; one sister, Helen; and three brothers, Victor Jr., Charles and George. He is survived by his wife of five years, Perry Anne (nee Yeoman) Choltco; and four daughters, Beverly Choltco-Devlin and her husband Frank of Hamilton, N.Y., Sharon Goresh and her husband Andy of Toms River, Joan Choltco-Travis of Toms River, and Geralyn Watson and her husband Charles of Cherry Hill. Lt. Cmdr. Choltco is also survived by seven grandchildren, Frank Choltco-Devlin, Evan Choltco-Devlin, Veronica Goresh, Daniel Goresh, Christine Erickson Jennings, Melissa Erickson Southerland, and Lara Erickson; and three great-grandchildren, Tobias Jennings, Kaleb Jennings and Jorden Southerland in addition to a sister, Margaret Choltco (age 96) of Saxonburg, Pa., as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Perry Anne's two sons, David Martin and his daughter Alexandra and Darrell Martin and his son, Matthew. Lt. Cmdr. Choltco - Bill - Dad, no matter how he was known he will always be remembered by those who loved him and knew him well as a man who was able to balance love of God, love of Family and love of Country. Born in Livingston, raised in Irvington and Matawan, Rich went on to graduate from Rutgers University in 1999 with a degree in Labor Studies. In 1995 Rich formed Happy Days Records and gave the world a first glance at bands such as Hot Water Music and Ink & Dagger, as well as other great records by artists such as Endeavor, Human Remains, and Time's Up. Shortly after graduating, Rich moved his efforts, experience, and passion to begin a career in labor organizing. He formed New Labor, an alternative model of worker organization centered on organizing and building power for low-wage, young, immigrant workers in central New Jersey. New Labor has grown to over 1,500 members since its founding in 2000. His work as executive Director of New Labor led to another labor partnership and the founding of Laborers Local 55 in 2009, a new Local focused on emerging industries such as green construction and energy conservation. Most recently, Rich worked as a Business Manager with Laborers Local 55. Although his professional accomplishments were many, his greatest personal accomplishment was being an amazing father to his girls. He is predeceased by his father, Richard Cunningham Sr. His spirit, passion and love lives on in his wife, Heather Knapp Cunningham, his twin daughters Lily Ava and Reese Sydney, his mother Karen Gebhardt Cunningham, his sister Melissa Cunningham as well as the countless other family, friends, and co-workers whose lives he touched. She was born in Sayreville and lived there all of her life. She was co-owner of Dieker's Farm on Bordentown Ave. in Sayreville for 70 years. She was a member of The First Order of the Eastern Star, Amboy Chapter #151 and The First Presbyterian Church of South Amboy. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry J. Dieker in 1997; her parents, John and Matilda Logan; her brothers, Raymond, Joseph and Jules; her sisters, Bertie, Matilda and Caroline. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., lived there, Manalapan and Berkeley before moving to Old Bridge five years ago. Mr. Hynes owned and operated Vintomar Service in Manalapan for 15 years. He was the oldest brother of 12 siblings. When he lived in Silver Ridge, he was a member of the Bocce Club and drove the Silver Ridge bus. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Mary (Basciano); three children and their spouses, Catherine and John Savarese, Thomas J. III and Patricia and Vincent and Lorraine; nine grandchildren; and five brothers and sisters, Gloria Kelly, John, Lawrence, Margaret Byrne and Eleanor Hynes. PETER CHIAPPONE BEACHWOOD Peter Chiappone, 73, of Beachwood, New Jersey, formerly of Bayonne passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2009. A Brooklyn native, he spent many years as an active member of the Bayonne community. He was a former chairman of the board of the Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation. He donated much of his spare time helping neighborhood children by instructing arts and crafts classes and giving guitar lessons. Mr. Chiappone was also a past president of the National Organization of Industrial Trade Unions, Local of Pfaff and Kendal in Newark, NJ, where he was employed for over 4 years, retiring as plant supervisor. Mr. Chiappone is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Rita (Wiesner); his son, Anthony and his wife, Diane, his son, Peter; his daughter, Marie; his stepdaughter, Phyllis Cassidy Hess and her husband, Karl, and his stepdaughter, Leslie Cassidy. He was adoringly known as Pop by his grandchildren, Kristen, Kurtis and Keith Chiappone. Falon Kildy, Kevin Tenery, and Kaitlin Simpson. He is also survived by his brother, Santo and his sister, Kitty Sico and many nieces and nephews. Mr Chiappone was an avid New York Giants fan. He loved painting, woodworking, fishing and reading. He was that extremely rare person who was authentically generous without expecting anything in return (except maybe a hug from hisgrandchildren). A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 8th, 2009, from 4:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Migliaccio Funeral Home. (Home News Tribune) MARY M. REISERT AGE: 92 SOMERSET Mary M. Reisert, age 92, of Somerset, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. She was born in Saratoga Springs, NY in 1917 and lived in Highland Park before settling in Somerset 56 years ago. Orphaned at an early age, Mary and her sister, Eileen, were raised by Postmaster John M. Corey and his wife, Cecelia, her father's sister, in Saratoga Springs. She worked for an attorney in Saratoga Springs for ten years before her marriage to R. William Reisert. Mary also worked as a secretary to the first principal, Elizabeth Borden of Irving School in Highland Park starting in 1953 and worked successively for seven different principals, retiring in 1998 at the age of 81. She was predeceased by her husband, R. William Reisert in 2008 and her sister, Eileen, in 1949. Mary is survived by her loving son, Karl, at home, and several cousins in Saratoga Springs, Thomas Totten, Patricia Totten, John Totten and Margaret Totten. Shortly after graduating, Rich moved his efforts, experience, and passion to begin a career in labor organizing. He formed New Labor, an alternative model of worker organization centered on organizing and building power for low-wage, young, immigrant workers in central New Jersey. New Labor has grown to over 1,500 members since its founding in 2000. His work as executive director of New Labor led to another labor partnership and the founding of Laborers Local 55 in 2009, a new local focused on emerging industries such as green construction and energy conservation. Most recently, Rich worked as a business manager with Laborers Local 55. Although his professional accomplishments were many, his greatest personal accomplishment was being an amazing father to his girls. He was predeceased by his father, Richard Cunningham Sr. His spirit, passion and love lives on in his wife, Heather Knapp Cunningham; his twin daughters, Lily Ava and Reese Sydney; his mother Karen Gebhardt Cunningham; his sister, Melissa Cunningham, as well as the countless other family, friends, and co-workers whose lives he touched. Mr. Snyder was 77 years of age. Born in Dunkirk, NY, he resided in South River for 50 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and proudly served on USS Haynsworth DD 700 during the Korean War. Mr. Snyder was a communicant of St. Mary's Mt. Virgin Church in New Brunswick. Richard was a supervisor for AT&T in Piscataway for over 40 years. He was a member of VFW Post 1451 in South River and was an avid bowler. He was predeceased by his wife, Iris V. (Cicchi) Snyder who died in 2007. He is survived by his two sons, Richard K. Snyder of Bloomsbury and Mark J. WETTSTEIN, CHARLES C. 73 - of Millville, passed away Thursday evening September 3, 2009 at the Millville Center after a lengthy illness. Born in Millville, he was a lifelong Millville resident. He graduated Millville High School class of 1954. Charles worked in Wheaton Industries for 42 years beginning in the mold repair dept. and eventually became the supervisor of that department. Charles enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, carpentry, gardening and reading. He enjoyed traveling, especially cruising to Alaska and the Caribbean, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid Millville High School football fan, an active member of the Thunderbolt Club and active member on the Board of Directors. Charles was one of football players on Millville's state championship team that went undefeated for three years. He was a member of the Millville Thunderbolt Hall of Fame, and former referee for the Tri County Midget Football League, as well as an active member and Ruling elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Millville. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen M., daughter Deborah Malone and husband Larry of Millville, son David Wettstein and wife Nancy of Panama City, FL; four grandchildren Carisa Malone, Kevin Malone and fiancee Danielle Wells, Rachel and Rebecca Summerall; a brother Dale Wettstein and wife JoAnn, three sisters Betty Lippincott and husband Sumner, JoAnne Weatherby and husband Richard, and Joyce Vanaman. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Elizabeth Wettstein. There will be a viewing Wednesday evening from 7-9pm and Thursday morning from 10-11am at Barr Funeral Home, 2104 E Main Street in Millville. The funeral service will be conducted by Rev. William F. Mahoney III, 57, of Elizabeth died on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 9 a.m. from the Leonard Home for Funerals, 242 W. Jersey St., Elizabeth. A Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Genevieve R.C. Church, Elizabeth, at 10 a.m. Entombment is in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visiting hours are on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Born in Elizabeth, William lived in Union for 20 years before moving back to Elizabeth. He graduated from Seton Hall University in 1974 and was a loan officer for various banks in New Jersey before retiring several years ago. He was the husband of the late Mary Lynch Mahoney, who died in 2008; loving son of William Jr. and Elizabeth (Kelly) Mahoney of Orlando, Fla.; dear brother of Kevin of Montville, N.J., Richard of Springfield, N.J., and James of Orlando, Fla., and dear uncle to several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity. |
