GRANT BELCHER FLOYD-Grant Belcher, 93, met his heavenly father on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Montgomery Regional Hospital with family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Ala Belcher and all his siblings, Zama Weeks, C.B. Belcher, Deloris Belcher, Geneva Ratliff, Freeman Belcher, Goldie Hill, and Ruth Reed. Loved by all who knew him, he was a humble devoted Christian who cared and loved completely. He was full of kindness, compassion, and concern for all he knew and never complained about whatever life presented him. Helping others was a trait of his that will always be remembered by his many friends and neighbors. A nature lover, he saw beauty in all of God's creation and was the happiest being outside. His family was so important to him and loved to be in the midst of every family event. He was a devoted husband, wonderful Daddy, and the best "Ga-Ga" to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memories are: his loving wife of 70 years, Madalene Belcher; his daughter, Narlene Dulaney of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Booie and Sonya DeHart of Christiansburg, and Travis Dulaney of Florida; great-grandchildren, Justin and Dylan Dulaney of Florida, Tanner , Skyler, and Bryce DeHart of Christiansburg; also his devoted nieces and nephews, Doug and Bobbie Belcher of Florida, Phil and Shelva Hoffman of Chesapeake, Norma Sue Hill and Charles and Betty Hill of Alexandria, Mack and Helen Belcher of Dublin, Donald and Jean Belcher and Junior and Frances Poff, all of Floyd. Sep 17, 2009 Bill G. Underwood, 73, of Stuart, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at Northern Hospital in Mount Airy, N.C. He was born July 13, 1935, to Oscar and Evie Bobbit Underwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ordie Nunn Underwood; and a sister, Lettie Mae Willard. Underwood served in the Army as a combat medic with the 8th Infantry during the Korean Conflict. He was a member and former chaplain of the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard and was a member and past commander of VFW Post 8467. Surviving are a son, Phillip Underwood of Mount Airy; two daughters, Robin Milette of Claudville and Gale Saunders of Mount Airy; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. Burial will be in the Church of Christ Cemetery with military honors by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. WILLIAM ERWIN BRAUNS MCMINNVILLE, TN- Mr. William Erwin Brauns formerly of Greensboro, N.C. and a current resident of McMinnville, TN, passed away suddenly Saturday, September 5, 2009 in Floyd, VA. Mr. Brauns was born in Passaic, NJ on September 6, 1939 to parents Herman and Grace Brauns. The family moved to Greensboro, NC in the early 1950's where Bill graduated from Greensboro High School (Grimsley) in 1957. He went on to graduate from Campbell College in 1959 with an associate degree in business. Bill began his career in Insurance working for Amica Insurance Co. in Patterson, NJ. Once he returned to Greensboro he worked for Pilot Fire and Casualty and in 1968 began a 30 year career with Shelby Mutual Insurance Co. After a brief retirement he worked for Auto Owners Insurance in Atlanta, GA and then returned to Greensboro to work for Penn National for several more years before permanently retiring. In the early 1970's Bill along with two friends combined their love and work and the outdoors and opened a small company called "Pack and Paddle" in Kernersville, NC, which sold camping and canoeing equipment. He loved the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, hiking, walking, wild flowering or traveling the world. "Poppy" as we liked to call him, loved his family the most. He loved playing trains with his grandsons and taking his granddaughter bowling. He reveled in "adventures," as he called them, with the children as well as teaching them to ride bikes and mini-bikes, to swim and fish, or anything else he felt they needed to learn. He instilled a sense of adventure, wonder, enthusiasm and joy in his grandchildren, as he was still a child at heart himself and he enjoyed it as much as they did. His sense of humor was priceless and he was always there to lend a helping hand to those who needed it-friends, family or co-workers. His was deeply loved and will be truly missed by those whose lives he touched. His legacy of a zest for life will live on in the family he has left behind, which include a daughter, Michelle Brauns Iocona, a son, William David Brauns, former wife, Cameron W. Brauns, grandchildren, Grace, Ethan, and Nate Iocona, Christopher and Cassidy Brauns and Dustin, Sierra, Andrew, and Rachel Brauns. He also leaves behind many special friends including Philip Iocona, Libby Pruett, Elvin Harman, Edna Harman and the entire Vance family. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2009, at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in McMinnville, TN, at 4 o'clock. CLAIBORNE, Lindsey Cabell, of La Jolla, California, died Saturday, September 12, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lauer Claiborne of La Jolla; his brother, Dr. Herbert A. Claiborne Jr.; his sister, Frances Claiborne Guy, both of Richmond, Virginia; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert A. Claiborne and Eleanor Hazard Lindsey; his stepmother, Virginia Christian Claiborne; and his sister, Catherine Claiborne Hall. Born April 18, 1915 in Richmond, he attended Miss Susie Slaughter's School, St. Christopher's School and Episcopal High School. He attended the University of Virginia, graduating with his Law Degree in 1938, and practiced in Richmond for nearly three years before being commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve in June 1941. During World War II he served in both the Navy Department in Washington and aboard ship in the South Pacific. He was wounded in the battle of Guam, was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart, and in 1946 was retired for disabilities as a Commander in the Naval Reserve. He then studied accounting and undertook professional accounting and income tax work in San Diego and La Jolla. He married Barbara Joan Lauer on May 5, 1973 in La Jolla. He was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati and was active in several veterans groups, tennis groups, the La Jolla Optimist Club, the University of Virginia Alumni Club of San Diego County, as well as a member of the St. James by the Sea Episcopal Church. |

DURR, Wm. "Skip," 64, of Glen Allen, passed away peacefully at home with his wife, daughter and grandson by his side. Formerly of Martins Ferry, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ralph and Naomi Durr. He worked in radio broadcasting for over 30 years and ended his radio career at WRVA. He was a devoted husband, a gentle father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his sister, Claire Durr Suckel. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Paula Torbett Durr; his daughter, Reagan Durr Yeatts and her husband, Michael; a grandson, Wm. Sep 17, 2009 A memorial service in lieu of visitation for Edwin Joseph Ogran, 88, of 1375 Blue Ridge Yacht Club Road in Bassett, who died Sept. 13, 2009, will be at noon today at his home. He was born Dec. 30, 1920, in Waupaca, Wis., to Casper and Pearl Ogran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dale; and sister, Velma. He graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., and served as a first lieutenant in the Army during World War II. He retired from Bassett Furniture Industries, where he worked as a research engineer for 22 years. He served as city manager of Glenview, Ill. In 1951, he ran the first particle board plant in the United States in Hope, Ark., and went on to operate fiber board plants in Louisiana and Wisconsin. He came to Bassett in 1967 and built the Bassett fiberboard plant. For more than 25 years, Ogran and his wife hosted a weekly Christian fellowship in their home. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Ann Ogran of the home; three sons, Mack Jeffrey Ogran of Birmingham, Ala., Martin David Ogran of Opelika, Ala. and Curtis Edwin Ogran of Birmingham; three stepsons, David A. Hill of Richmond, Marvin Lee Hill of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Roger W. Hill of Charlotte, N.C.; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. |

Niles Freeman Jr., 87, of Charlottesville, and formerly of Vienna, Virginia, died at his residence at Our Lady of Peace on Tuesday, September 15, 2009., Born in Washington D.C., on March 1, 1922, Niles graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. After high school, Niles joined his father in the printing business, first at the Washington Shopping News, and then at Mercury Press, in Washington., He enlisted in the Navy in 1942, serving on the S.S. Jason, a repair ship, in the South Pacific. In 1952, Niles was instrumental in founding Beacon Press, in Richmond, serving as company president until 1965, when the company was sold to Media General Corporation., He was predeceased by his parents, William Niles Freeman Sr. and Mildred Shreve Freeman; and his wife, Madeleine Lurba Freeman., He is survived by his sister, Barbara F. Kast; his brother-in-law, Jacques W. Lurba and his friend, Yingjun Shu; a daughter, Catherine F. Holder and her husband, Arthur Austgen; and by a son, William N. WILLIAM T. HARRY JR. SALEM-Colonel William (Bill) T. Harry Jr. (USAF, retired) passed away September 4, 2009 after a long illness. Born in Suffolk, Va., Col. Harry graduated from high school in Edenton, N.C. He received his B.A. degree in history from North Carolina Wesleyan College and his Masters from Central Michigan University. His distinguished military career of 29 years included flying over 7,000 hours with 257 combat missions in Southeast Asia as a B-52 radar navigator. His decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, 13 Air Medals and three Air Force Commendation Medals. Following his retirement from the Air force, he worked for the Virginia Department of Veterans Services, retiring as a Regional Manager in 2005. Col. Harry was actively involved in numerous capacities in the VFW Post #4389, the Air Force Association, the Valley Veterans Council and the Military Officers Association of America. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Salem. Bill was preceded in death by his father, William T. Harry Sr., a former Floyd County High School principal, and his mother, Esther Parks Harry. He is survived by: his loving and devoted wife, Linda West Harry; his daughter, Suzanne Cipolla, her husband, Rob, and their children, David and Caroline, of Richmond, Va.; and his son, David Harry and his fiancÂ?e, Linda Arnold, of Flemington, N. J. Bill is also survived by his sister, Nancy Lewis and her husband, Otis, of Lebanon, Ohio; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Esther West, of Roanoke; and sisters-in-law, Joan West Bork and her husband, Casey, of Whitehouse Station, N.J. and Becky West Smythers and her husband, Clyde, of Blacksburg, Va. He also leaves behind many dear nieces and nephews. During his five years battling multiple myeloma/amyloidosis, Bill showed amazing strength and resilience, while never complaining. A gracious, kind gentleman, he will be greatly missed. Although Bill enjoyed numerous hobbies and interests, his lifelong passion was military history, specifically, World War II and military aircraft. A Celebration of Life Memorial was held Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Oakey's South Chapel, Roanoke, at 4 p.m. Visitation took place from 2 to 4 p.m., prior to the service. WILLIAM LAWRENCE HOWELL CHRISTIANSBURG-William Lawrence Howell, 77, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009. He was preceded in death by his father, William Jackson Howell, mother, Rhetta Aquilla Akers Howell, sister, Iva Carroll, daughter-in-law, Linda G. Howell, and his first wife and mother of his children, Janet S. Howell. He was a veteran, who served during the Korean Conflict, and was wounded during combat. He was the founder and owner of Howell's Auto Sales for over 50 years where he repaired and sold countless vehicles for numerous people. He was always willing to help anyone at anytime or just sit and enjoy a lengthy conversation. Not much could rival his passion for his antique cars and trucks and his love of visiting car shows and cruise-ins. He was also a racing fan and competitor in his early years. He shared his knowledge and supported his sons, "Bo" and Tony, in their racing achievements. He enjoyed going to the Floyd Country Store every Friday night where he would listen and flatfoot to the music. He was very well known and respected by everyone in the community. He will forever be missed, especially by his family and friends. JOHNSTON, Robert G., of Richmond, passed away on September 15, 2009. Born in 1922, in Sharon, Pa., Bob lived most of his life in Richmond. Bob was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps in France. He met his wife, the late Shirley Culbreth, at the USO in Florence, S.C. Bob was an accountant with several truck leasing companies, but his life bloomed in retirement when he could pursue his passions for gardening and gadgetry. He and Shirley annually expanded the variety of flowers and vegetables in their back yard. In his well used garage, he fixed everything that ever broke in the house or on the car. He built make-shift boats, hot-air balloons launched on the Fourth of July, a lawn-mowing ghost for Halloween, and small rockets launched to the delight of his grandchildren. For more than 50 years Bob was a member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church, where he taught Sunday School and served as Deacon for several years. His faith sustained him following the death of his beloved Shirley in 2003, and he treasured the loving support of his St. Giles friends. Bob's greatest accomplishment was as the loving father of five children, 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Pamela Johnston of Huntington, N.Y., Elizabeth Snyder of Havertown, Pa., Martha Shotwell of Glen Allen, Robert Johnston Jr. of Vallejo, Calif., and Ann Winton of Charleston, W.Va. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Dawson of Redmond, Wash. He was preceded by his parents, Elizabeth Newhouse and Virgil C. Johnston; and brothers, Virgil Johnston Jr. and William T. Johnston. There will be a memorial service on Friday, September 18, at 11 a.m., followed by visitation with the family at St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Richmond. He was born Oct. 14, 1928, in Kentuck, W.Va., to Jesse Dayton Williams and Losha Pearl Walker Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice "Bea" Imogene Williams; a daughter, Ethel Lanore; a brother, Dencil E. Williams; and two sisters, Ethel L. Fridley and Myrtle M. Williams. He was a former water treatment operator for Martinsville. MARTIN, Upton Scott Jr. "Jake," 102, died peacefully Tuesday evening September 15, 2009. The only child of U.S. Martin and Clara Bell Seaber Martin, he was born in Shepherdstown, W.Va. on September 19, 1906. In 1925, he graduated from Shepherd College (now Shepherd University), where he met his wife of 75 years, Marian Hirst Martin, who preceded him in death in December 2004. He is survived by a daughter, Hirst M. Rush "Jo" and her husband, Robert, of Virginia Beach; son, John A. Martin, his wife, Pamela, of Fountain Valley, Calif.; daughter, Lelia C. Frame "Bess" and her husband, Melvin, of Hanover County; and son, Upton S. Martin III "Charlie" and his wife, Ann, of Ashland; grandchildren include Kim R. Daily, Stuart Rush, Barbara Lynn Rush, Paul Martin, Janice M. Hoover, Chris Conklin, Stephanie Martin and Amy M. Ewing; seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He and his family came to Richmond in 1938. In 1942, he joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Va. as a bank examiner, rising to the position of senior vice-president. Involved in many civic organizations until retirement, he held positions of leadership with the Richmond Kiwanis Club, United Givers Fund, Maymont Foundation, Robert E. Lee Council of Boy Scouts of America and the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was a member of several professional organizations and also served on the board of Virginia State University. Following retirement in 1971, he and his wife traveled the world extensively learning and appreciating the cultural and environmental differences of the countries they visited. He was an active and faithful member of Barton Heights and Chamberlayne Heights United Methodist Churches. He and his wife owned a farm in Hanover County which was used in the summer, not only for growing wheat, soy beans, corn, etc., but for providing a place for a church day camp attended by children and adults for more than 40 years. In addition, the farm has been available to boy scouts, youth groups, the Bethlehem Center, and as a place to hold church picnics. Upton, prior to his passing, wished to say, "Thanks Richmond. We loved your town and your people!" The family will receive friends at Bliley's- Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., on Friday evening, September 18, from 6 to 8. Albert Holladay Minor, 89, of Roanoke, Va., died on Saturday, September 12, 2009. Born at North Garden in Albemarle County on July 16, 1920, he was the son of the late Frank Edward Minor and the late Sallie Linberry Minor. He was a graduate of Scottsville High School and the Jefferson School of Commerce in Charlottesville. He also attended the University of Pittsburgh. He joined the Navy on June 7, 1942, serving on recruiting duty in Lynchburg and induction duty at Greensburg, Pa. He married Margery Maddocks, of Greensburg, on May 14, 1944. He was then assigned to the amphibious forces in the Pacific, where he served aboard LST 806. He began his newspaper career at The Daily Progress in Charlottesville, where he covered police, courts, and local government as a reporter and later as telegraph edition. From 1948 to 1959, he served as a copy editor for The Pittsburgh Press, working at several assignments. Al was chief copy editor for The Roanoke World-News, the afternoon paper at that time, and later was special sections editor for The Times and World-News., He was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church of Roanoke, where he served as a deacon and as an elder. Visiting homebound members and encouraging the sick and lonely were his special ministries. Al was devoted to his immediate and extended family. He will be remembered for his kindness, his thoughtfulness, his dry sense of humor, and most of all his faith in Jesus Christ. He was a righteous man who walked with God., Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Margery Minor; son, Bob Minor, of Boones Mill; daughter, Becky Angell and husband, John, of Greensboro, N.C.; grandson, Eoin Angell, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; granddaughter, Lia Johnson and husband, Randolph, of Columbus, Ohio; grandson, Conor Angell, and wife Kerri, of Bloomington, Ind.; and a number of nieces and nephews. MORAUSKE, Leona, 88, of Glen Allen, went to be with the Lord on September 10, 2009. She lived in Warren, Mich. for 65 years before moving to Virginia in 2006. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Steve Morauske; and a son, Craig Morauske. She is survived by her sons, Keith (Faye) of Glen Allen, Va. and Steve (Pennie) of Port Charlotte, Fla.; five grandchildren, Angela Burton (Andrew), Jason Morauske (Tracy) and Rachel Lowry (Walter), all of Richmond, Shari Erdodi (Mike) of Warren, Michigan, Kristi Chaffin (Bryson) of San Antonio, Texas; and seven great-grandchildren, Abigail and AJ Burton, Maddox and Trason Morauske, Nicholas and Natalie Cucinella and Mason Chaffin. Sep 17, 2009 Ollie Shelton Eanes, 90, of Stanleytown, died Sept. 15, 2009, at Stanleytown Health and Rehab Center. She was born Aug. 16, 1919, in Henry to Mollie Bowles. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Earl Hall; second husband, James Everett Eanes; a daughter, Carolyn J. Taylor; two brothers, Emmett and Earl Shelton; and three sisters, Dorothy Hundley, Hortense Keaton and Marie Holcomb. She was a member of Kearfott Memorial Baptist Church, and she retired from Bassett-Walker Knitting, where she worked for more than 33 years. Surviving are five sons, Douglas Hall of Saucier, Miss., Cecil Hall of Patrick Springs, Dana Eanes of the Rangeley community, Sammy Eanes of Ridgeway and Frankie Eanes of Ghana, Africa; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Lew Bennett officiating. Burial was in Mount Hermon Church of the Brethren cemetery with military honors by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. PALMER, Martin Amorous, of Charlottesville, Va., died after a short illness on September 15, 2009. Born in Columbus, Ga. on June 26, 1924, he was the son of the late Isabel Amorous Palmer and William Randolph Moore Palmer. He attended Woodberry Forest School, and graduated from the University of Virginia in 1948, where he was the president of the Zeta Psi Fraternity, president of the Intra-Fraternity Council and lettered on the varsity football team. Buck, as he was known to his many friends and family, served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and in the Korean Conflict, retiring from the Naval Reserve with the rank of lieutenant commander. He worked for People's National Bank which became Virginia National Bank and later Sovran Bank, from which he retired as senior vice-president in 1986. During many of these years, he and his wife, Maria, resided in Virginia Beach, Va. He held memberships in the Farmington Hunt Club, the Farmington Country Club, and the Boar's Head Sports Club. While living in Virginia Beach, he was a member of the Princess Anne Country Club. His presence will be greatly missed at the men's Friday Lunch Group at Farmington. An avid sportsman, Buck enjoyed hunting with his friends and family and was a member of the Deep Creek Gun Club on the Eastern Shore. He was predeceased by his wife, Maria Jones Palmer; his only son, William Randolph Moore Palmer, who died in 2003; and his brother, George C. Palmer II. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Hunter Wright Palmer; his beloved grandchildren, Caroline Maria Palmer and Martin Randolph Palmer. His longtime companion, Nancy Perkins Petty added joy and comfort in the final years of his life. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Susanne Gier Palmer; his nephew, George C. Palmer III and his wife, Constance; and by his niece, Elizabeth Palmer Mossman. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Paul's Ivy Church, P.O. PARRISH, William W. "Red", 70, of Chesterfield, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Southside Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late Thomas Russell and Gracie Cary Parrish. Mr. Parrish was a 30 year member and deacon of Oaklawn Baptist Church, Chesterfield, where he also taught Sunday school and was a former member of Faith Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. He was a retired employee with VDOT as a supervisor. Red was a farmer and taught private security classes in Colonial Heights along with other hobbies for the last fifteen years. Mary Ann Franklin Mary Ann Franklin of Culpeper, Va. departed this life on Monday, September 14, 2009 at Culpeper Regional Hospital. She was born on July 17, 1951 to the late Walter Randolph White and Jean Grace Strother. Mary was employed at George Washington Carver-Piedmont Technical School for 20 years of service and took an early retirement due to illness. She is survived by her husband, John Randel Franklin and son, James Bernard Franklin; two sisters, Janice Alexander and Tammy Strother of Culpeper, five brothers, Claude (Ramona), Walter, Tony, Billy and Ronald Strother all of Culpeper. Additional survivors include one aunt, one uncle, five sisters-in-law and seven brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Find out more. Mairs Sr., Louis Neil View/Sign Guest Book Louis Neil Mairs, Sr. Louis Neil Mairs, Sr., age 91, of Culpeper died on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Culpeper Regional Hospital. He was born on March 25, 1918 in Avon, N.Y. to the late Walter Mairs and Marion Little Mairs. Mr. Mairs graduated in 1942 from Cortland State University in New York where he was a brother of the Beta Phi Epsilon fraternity. He played varsity soccer and was team captain and MVP his senior year. Mr. Mairs served his country in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. He was very proud of his years to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Ridgefield, Conn. where he served as an alderman and member of various committees. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed reading and loved his grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Sharon Mairs and her partner, Jeff Orr of Avon, N.Y. and Louis Neil Mairs, Jr. and his wife, Kathleen of Culpeper; one brother, Jim Mairs of Tangerine, Fla.; one sister, Evelyn Taylor of Caledonia, N.Y. and two grandchildren, Louis Mairs, III and Colleen Mairs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Mairs and two brothers, Don and Bill Mairs. Services will be private. Find out more. Rice, Gregory Scott View/Sign Guest Book Gregory S. Rice Gregory Scott Rice, age 48, of Rixeyville died September 15, 2009 at his home. He was born in Richmond, Va. on May 24, 1961. He moved to Fauquier County at the age of twelve, became deep rooted and loved this area. He worked for Warrenton Wholesale as a teenager, then for VA Department of Transportation as an electrician. Greg started his 20+ year with the Warrenton Training Center in 1986, where he forged many long-lasting friendships. Greg's passion for hunting took him to many places such as Canada, Wyoming, Montana, Texas, Florida, and his all-time favorite, Africa. He kept journals of all his hunting experiences and hoped to write a book in his retirement. His artistic ability and the love of the sport led him into the field of taxidermy where he could express himself and create life-like mounts of the animals he loved and respected. Two years ago, Greg succumbed to the addiction and evils of alcoholism. It was painful as his family and friends watched his rapid demise. Despite the turmoil of the last two years, his family and friends have years of great memories of awesome times with Greg. He was a good son, a great husband and a wonderful father. He is forever in our hearts and will truly be missed. God rest his soul. He is survived by his parents, Guy "Dick" and Brenda Rice of Rixeyville; his wife of 25 years, Jacqueline Johnson Rice of Bealeton and three daughters, Bethany of Radford, Va., Hailey and Cassie, both of Bealeton. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Irene Vickers; his parents, Pearl and William Vickers; two brothers, Billy and Fred; and one sister, Marie Hash., in joining the Roanoke City Sheriff's Department on February 1, 1961. With dedication he was employed there for 32 � years, never missing one day of work until his retirement in 1993., Vic leaves to cherish his memory, his caring son, Barry, daughter-in-law, Bobbie, and two loving granddaughters, Kerri Vickers and Jessica Fereber and children.
