Janie Spradlin Aesy, 82, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 17, 2009. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Aesy Jr.; one brother; and four sisters. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Surviving is her daughter, Cheryl M. Aesy, of Roanoke, son and daughter-in-law, Charles R. and Diane M. Aesy, of Troutville, grandchildren, Charles R. Aesy III and Victoria G. Aesy; brother, David L. Spradlin; sister, Agnes S. Chaves, both of Richmond, Va.; also several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Springtree Rehab and Healthcare Center Unit II for all their care and support. Oct 19, 2009 Dorothy Dalton Helms, 95, of the Landmark Center of Stuart, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center of Stuart. She was born in Patrick County on Nov. 27, 1913, to Willis Dalton and Carrie Frazier Dalton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Edd Helms; three sisters, Gertie Lawson, Flora Clark and Ruth Rodgers; and five brothers, Neil, Mylo, Paul, Ben and Wayne Dalton. Surviving are a daughter, Ruby H. Guevara of Mountain Top, Pa.; a foster son, Buddy Ray Handy of High Point, N.C.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Community Funeral Home of Stuart with the Revs. Jim Churchwell and Mike Hundley officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope United Methodist Church cemetery. He was born on April 22, 1934, in Giles County to Thomas Marion Hodge and Edna Virginia Sarten Hodge. Lena Young Nuckles Lena Young Nuckles, 95, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009. She was the wife of the late Roy Lee Nuckles. Born in Bedford County, she was a daughter of the late Otha Lee Young and the late Annie Fariss Young. Mrs. Nuckles was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Elliott (Roger Hudson), of Lynchburg; a brother, Edward Young (Aileen), of Madison Heights; five grandchildren, E. Dean Nuckles (Brenda), Dale Lee Nuckles, Tammy Porterfield (Ron), Mark Elliott (Esther), and Candace Ogden (Larry), a son-in-law Floyd Elliott Jr. (Helen), nine great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward Lee Nuckles; two brothers, Robert Young, and Dennis V. Young; and a sister, Melvinnie Y. Johnson. Mrs. Nuckles family would like to thank Hospice of the Hills, Team Nurse Home Health, for their compassion and care and especially Quanesha.
